On my own, been admitted, dh not allowed to stay on the ward but also too far to go home incase he needs to get back fast so he's sleeping in the car !!

Had my show this morning which has carried on Slowly all day, been having tightenings all day which became very painful around 4pm ish, got to hospital (I'm booked in for a section so they said to come straight in) and they basically stooped !!
Now it's 4.30am, I'm contracting every ten mins, sometimes I get these double contractions!! All on my own, one lady on the ward fast asleep and I'm trying not to make any noise. I'm just so worried the pains are going to stop again

Hi everyone. Baby is here. Born via section, just about mind !
The midwife agreed to examine me when I stated it was my choice and I had a right to be examined if I wanted too. I was 6cm and in active labour. I was then asked if I was absolutely sure I didn't want a vaginal birth... gave my reasons for not. Next thing I was being prepped for theatre, all happened fast, but then as I was literally on the table about to get the spinal and an emergency came in so it was pushed back another hour.
Which is obviously fair enough. But in this time I started progressing very fast and was climbing the walls. Gas and air and pethidine helped me disassociate from the pain a little, doesn't take it away though does it ! I was convinced baby was going to pop out.

Anyways, eventually had baby !!
I really do think I was being stalled purposely and pushed into a vaginal birth.

Thanks everyone for all your comments, I felt so alone last night !!

No he got sent away as I was admitted onto a ward overnight, this was even more upsetting as I knew I'd be in pain and alone.
We had a dd!

I think you should definitely speak to PALS. A consultant (doctor/midwife/someone) told you that it was safest for you to have a c-section as it was so soon since your last section. Then the actual attending consultants and midwives did just about everything they could to force you into a VBAC. It doesn’t matter who is “correct” - your right to choose how to birth should not be overruled by the opinion of the attending consultant. That’s just plainly wrong. So once you stated not only that you had been advised but also that you wanted a c-section, that should have been the end of it. Especially that bollocks about making you wait another 24 hours - you almost certainly would have given birth naturally by then, and if the first medical professional who advised you was right, we have no idea what the possible damage might have been (hemorrhage, etc). I’m glad you’re safe, it’s wonderful that baby is born and well, but I’m sick to the back teeth of doctors not taking women’s choices seriously, and especially treating ANY women’s reproductive system issues (pregnancy, endometriosis, cysts, unexplained heavy bleeding, birth damage, post-birth pain) like they’re less urgent OR painful than a man’s broken finger. Please do complain.

Enjoy your wee bundle lovely! I'm sorry it's been so tough for you and when you're ready to process it all consider the complaint.

But for now some rest and baby snuggles! Hope you're not too sore x

Oh I also forgot to mention - even the surgeon when she came to see me asked me how I wanted to proceed if by the time I got to theatre the baby's head was in the birth canal. I said erm surely that shouldn't be happening and that'd be up to the professionals to advise on how to proceed in a situation like that ? Then I said, how long are we looking until surgery, she said an hour. It all just seemed really stalled.
My dh also said at this point that if that was a possibility then why on earth had I been made to wait so long for the section?! She couldn't answer.

Congratulations!

I also agree with speaking to PALS. I know it’s hard to be angry in the wake of such happy news but I’m fuming for you. Who the hell do they think they are?

vacay · 13/02/2024 01:20

Yep, it's a joke isn't it, you believe you're given choice to birth how you want too, then you go into spontaneous labour, are in a really vulnerable position and are getting fucked about by these medical professionals.
I should never have been allowed to have got to the transition stage, I had lost the plot at that point and could barely advocate for myself, luckily dh did.

But yeah I do want to complain because I think it's bad what I was made to put up with

Congratulations!

But Christ this is shocking. If you have the energy: complain loudly. It's not good enough

MariaVT65 · 13/02/2024 02:50

Congrats op!

Absolutely complain to PALS about your experience. Absolutely disgusting you were made to go through all of that alone and to go through half a labour when you had a planned section.

Lwrenn · 13/02/2024 02:53

Hope you've had some kip @vacay and aren't too sore! How's baba? X
