"Induction" with twins, fed up 🫥

Hi 👋 so I am 37+6 today with dcda twins. I went to my appointment to be induced late afternoon yesterday, they were going to go with the balloon method...got there, they monitored the babies all good, examined me & said oh you don't need anything you're already 3cm and it can be stretched to 4, we'll put you on the list to have your waters broken then we'll give you a stretch and sweep and you can go home and come back daily for a sweep until your name comes up on the list (anywhere from 5 to 7 day long list) 😳 ... had my sweep got home, had contractions for 3/4 hours and then nothing. I'm so fed up. I can't believe I'm still pregnant 😖 but I'm worried now, I have 4 other children who I need to look after, they were with family last night and will be until Saturday but then what? If I'm expected to be in and out of the hospital everyday, my youngest is 1 I can't just leave her with family for days 😔 also I read it is dangerous to leave twins of any kind past 38 weeks ... I am 38 weeks tomorrow so why am I being left to trail to and from the hospital everyday for sweeps 🫣 I'm just so fed up. This has been a long, hard pregnancy and I thought it was finally coming to an end when I got my induction date, now the end seems further away than ever before 😪😪

Oh that does sound pretty brutal and exhausting. But… on the positive labour that starts fairly naturally is a bit safer than induction and less likely to need further intervention? Which might balance out any risks. You know the drill.. rest as much as you can, enjoy the window of child free time, be kind to yourself - your twins will be here soon although I understand it feels like an age!

Thank-you. Yes tbh I was hoping they'd say the process had already sort of started and I didn't need to have anything done...so got what I'd hoped for I suppose 🫣😂 because ive never been induced before I was wary of it and worried it was better for my body to decide, but i wasn't banking on being on a 7 day waiting list and having to go back and forth everyday. I'm hoping today's appointment will bring better news but we'll see 😔

Sorry just to check they broke your waters and then want you to have multiple sweeps?? That's so dangerous. Please decline if you haven't had your waters broken yet. If you have had your waters broken then please decline any sweeps following that as the infection risk is so high.

What they are suggesting is lunacy, I would firmly ask them for a new plan.

What do you want to do?

Amyy44 · 02/02/2024 08:52

No sorry they haven't broken my waters they have put me on the list to have them broken. I haven't re read what I wrote I'm too tired 😂 but no both sets of waters definitely still hanging in there .... unfortunately 👀😂

I would be trying everything to get things going myself, bouncing on the ball, walks, harvesting colostrum, sex, everything !!

babygonewild · 02/02/2024 09:09

It's not unfortunate, those waters a keeping your babies safe. You want them intact for as long as possible and for labour to get going naturally which it sounds like might happen for you! You need to keep the oxytocin flowing, not being doing a merry jig to and from hospital.

rainbowstardrops · 02/02/2024 09:14

That doesn't sound ideal at all! I'd be speaking to them and voicing your concerns. Good luck!

Amyy44 · 02/02/2024 11:17

Oh I am believe me 😂😂

Would it be safer to have a c-section?

Amyy44 · 02/02/2024 15:47

Been today, 5cm now, still no room on labour ward so stretch and sweep done and home again until tomorrow. Started having contractions immediately after stretch and sweep but not regular enough just very painful. Totally had enough of the whole process now 😫

As soon as your waters break you'll go into active labour and have the babies very quickly.

Let it happen naturally (as long as the babies are okay).

SwordToFlamethrower · 02/02/2024 15:59

Inductions are brutal, traumatic for both mother and babies and mostly unnecessary!

Oh op, 5cm!!! Your babies will be here so soon. I can't believe they've sent you home at 5cm!!!

She isn't in active labour, that's why.

That’s utter bollocks.

underneaththeash · 02/02/2024 16:20

That’s utter bollocks.

I don't think it is.

Most inductions take days and days. You might just as well wait to go into labour.

34weekmess · 02/02/2024 16:41

@TheShellBeach won't be long though will it ? Didn't op say these are her 4th babies ?? Established labour is 4cm - both of mine I was 3cm and they put me in a room, first one I went from 6cm-10cm in 3 hours !! And the second I went from 3-6cm in 2 hours

34weekmess · 02/02/2024 16:42

Most inductions also end up needing intervention too. I refused an induction for this reason and the consultant agreed

Amyy44 · 02/02/2024 17:02

My contractions aren't regular so no need to be there as there's still no room on labour ward and because it's twins that's where I need to be. I live a 5 min drive away from the hospital thankfully so. Still having contractions now so hoping we're finally getting somewhere. I haven't acutally been induced I've had stretch and sweeps induction wasn't needed because I was already 4cm yesterday 🤷🏻‍♀️ these are babies 5 & 6 and they're clearly just loving life in there 😂 I'm just home bouncing around on my ball 🤞

Amyy44 · 02/02/2024 18:03

Ahh thank-you. Yes 6, I don't know whether I'm mental ..orrrrrr?? Yeah got nothing else just mental 😂😂 I just can't wait to see their chubby little chops I'm ready for them to be out and this pregnancy over then I never ever have to see the inside of the maternity ward again 🥳😂

Just an update for anyone interested or who stumbles across this looking for advice.. my little twinnies are here ❤️ contractions became very close together around 6.30pm, managed at home until 8pm.. came into labour ward, still 4cm and I thought right I'm having epidural don't care 😂 never ever had anything but gas and air before so it was a big thing for me but I'm so glad I did. Within 2 hours I'd gone to 6cm.. checked again at midnight and still 6cm, was a bit bummed about that 😫 started hormone drip, plan was to wait until 4.20am to recheck but twin 1s heart rate was dipping so examined around 2.45am and I was 10cm and ready to go 🥳 2 pushes and twin 1 was out!! Twin 2 had been head down for weeks thought right this will be the same....no....she went breech, then transverse, then breech again, consultant tried to turn her and did think she'd gotten hold of a foot at one point, turned out to be her little hand, so rushed off straight away for a section..on my own as no time for partner to get ready and nobody to sit with twin 1 as the whole team needed to come. I found it quite scary I'd had so much epidural by then I couldn't stop shaking, laid flat I had terrible acid and had to have gaviscon poured into my mouth 🤢 I felt like my chest had gone numb and I couldn't swallow or catch my breath I really scared myself and got myself worked up, with no reason as everything went fantastic but I've never had a section ...or any form of operation before so all brand new to me 🫣 twin two was born almost an hour after twin 1 ... both absolutely perfect and fantastic weights. So just want to say even if plans change at the last second things can still turn out perfect, just in a bit of a different way🤗 and christ dont panic and work yourself up during a section like i did , they are professionals and they know what theyre doing 👌i feel silly now i really made things hard for myself but there we go, im a baby 🫣😂 Thankyou everyone for all advice it really was appreciated ❤️
