Any reason not to? Will they know? 😯

Use a condom and they won't know.

Pebbles601 · 27/11/2023 22:01

Does it matter if they know? I mean you are pregnant, they already know you have done it Grin (they won't know, just enjoy yourself)

Maybemaybenot76 · 27/11/2023 22:02

@TomatoSandwiches The whole point for me is to try and soften my cervix, so a condom would stop that haha.

If you don't use a condom we can absolutely tell.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 27/11/2023 22:03

Genuinely won't give a crap.

And the prostaglandins in the semen will help soften the cervix. Just make sure you orgasm too.

How?

HiCandles · 27/11/2023 22:04

They will know without a condom. I have examined ladies the day after sex and you can see semen in the vagina when using a speculum and it's on the gloved hand when removed.
I'm sure it will have happened before to your midwife but it isn't very nice really!

HiCandles · 27/11/2023 22:06

However I'm sure your midwife will understand since sex is so commonly thought to help trigger labour.

Maybemaybenot76 · 27/11/2023 22:06

I think I’ll pass and go for it tomorrow after the sweep instead 😆

Karwomannghia · 27/11/2023 22:06

It must be very common, surely?

sandrapinchedmysandwich · 27/11/2023 22:10

With a condom- fine. Without a condom it's just a bit grim isn't it and not nice for the poor midwife?

This made me smile. Is sticking your fingers into a vagina a lot more unpleasant because you can see semen? Surely in amongst the lubricating gel and natural vagina discharge a third liquid isn't really that much more unpleasant?

Haha have you ever have sex? 🙄

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 27/11/2023 22:20

Not very nice for the midwife really. If it was something you had to do then sure but as you don't and can wait then wait.

Is blood and excrement not grim? Being a midwife involves very close contact with bodily fluids! I'm assuming there isn't going to be 2 litres of semen oozing over the midwife's hand... How much would really be left after 12 hours?

feralunderclass · 27/11/2023 22:22

KateyCuckoo · 27/11/2023 22:11

In a past life, yes 😅. And in my defence (because I'm aware it looks like I'm very defensive about this topic!) I have no skin in the game, my child bearing days are over, but I'm just really surprised at the 'grim' accusations - being a midwife involves a lot of grim stuff!

AMuser · 27/11/2023 22:23

God I was 51 years old and 3 adult /teen kids in before I realised the semen would be visible in the way you’ve all described. I’ve not ever considered it (my ex refused all sex during pg) but I kind of thought it would all be absorbed after a few hours 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pebbles601 · 27/11/2023 22:25

A lot of women have sex to try to induce labour. With the lube, other secretions in the mix I really doubt a midwife will be on the look out for sperm. They put their hand in, quickly sweep, out, glove in bin.

My comment was in response to you asking how the midwife would know.

SylvieLaufeydottir · 27/11/2023 22:27

"Not very nice for the midwife"?! They're a midwife. They've actively chosen to make a career out of attending the very, very messy process that is birth, which involves a lot more and often a lot messier bodily fluids than a small quantity of semen. Plus, presumably, they're an adult who realises their patients have sex and doesn't expect said patients to orient their lives to make a routine examination "nicer" for them.

SkyFullofStars1975 · 27/11/2023 22:33

My DD is a student MW. She's just overjoyed when someone has had a wash.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 27/11/2023 22:34

A midwife's sole concern is the welfare of the woman and her baby, not what remnants are on her gloves.

whoopwhoo · 27/11/2023 22:55

My midwife literally told me to do this. To try to get things going.

Not the OPs problem, it is her vagina and she can have semen in it if she wants to. Especially to try and trigger labour.

If you're squeamish about bodily fluids as a nurse/ midwife/HCP then consider a change in career. Sheesh!

How?

Um, semen will still be in there?
