Caesarian Urban Myth?

I'm not sure if this is true, partly true or a load of old rubbish, so would be interested to hear what you think.

Is it true that you're more likely to have a c-section if you've got small feet? I think it has something to so with a correlation of size of feet and size of pelvis.

I have size 4 feet!

I have size 8 feet.

I needed a section because my pelvis is too small and dd got stuck, so it wasn't true in my case.

motherinferior · 09/03/2008 17:03

Four? Massive, my dear. My feet are about size two and a half. I have had two vaginal births, the second at home.

dizzydixies · 09/03/2008 17:05

size 8 and needed a section too

sweetkitty · 09/03/2008 17:07

size 4 feet size 8, have given borth twice one of which was a 9lbs 3ozs baby at home

Jacanne · 09/03/2008 17:08

Size 7 feet - 2 sections

cameroonmama · 09/03/2008 17:11

size 5 feet and 3 sections

BecauseImWorthIt · 09/03/2008 17:12

size 4 (sometimes 3) and two vaginal births - second one without any stitches.

blueshoes · 09/03/2008 17:12

There could be loads of reasons for a cs, not just baby got stuck in the birth canal eg baby in distress, labour stalled.

I wonder how common it is for cs for baby getting stuck - I would have thought that would be the worst scenario (ie mother went through the whole labour and in final stages, probably pushing for a some time) and not common, whatever the foot/pelvis size?

blousy · 09/03/2008 17:13

My feet are 3 or 3.5 (I'm 5'7" though),and I had normal deliveries.

Lubyloo · 09/03/2008 17:17

Well I have size 9 feet and DD got stuck, had been pushing for three hours. Poor thing had to be pushed back up and out by c-section!

expatinscotland · 09/03/2008 17:17

a myth

ChipButty · 09/03/2008 17:18

Size 9 - 2 emergency sections. I certainly have wide hips though!

3madboys · 09/03/2008 17:19

lol someone said this to me the other day in a shop, i am now overdue, and they looked at me and said that i had tiny feet (size 3) and that it would have to be a small baby or else i would need a c section, to which i said well my other three were all 9lb+ and i have had straightforward normal deliveries, the last one only took three hours and three pushes

the lady was and didnt know what to say.

so i think its just an old wives tale

terramum · 09/03/2008 19:03

Old wives tale. The size of your feet in relation to your pelvis is irrelevant because women tend to grow babies to a size that suits their pelvis. Nature is funny like that

Very interseting I have small feet. Size 2 and had a c section DD was small too but was breech hence the section. But I did get raised eyebrows from my midwife on my first appointment when she asked me my shoe size and it was written on my notes.

Hulababy · 09/03/2008 19:10

I am size 3-3.5

I had a c section when my induction failed to start anything.

scottishmummy · 09/03/2008 19:18

if it was that easy to predict CS we'd all go to Clarks for feet measuring not ante-natal clinic.

of course it is total tosh, mince, nonsense

NotQuiteCockney · 09/03/2008 19:18

Size 9 feet. Very wide hips, very wide shoulders.

Two CSes.

Unless there's some interesting way in which one is meant to use ones big feet to haul the baby out ... no ... urban myth.

nooka · 09/03/2008 19:19

I have size 7 feet and had two c-sections. I always thought I had good childbearing hips too!

stuffitllama · 09/03/2008 19:30

I was told that, what a load of codswallop

Haylstones · 09/03/2008 19:33

I have size 5/6 feet and had vaginal birth first time then emergency cs 2 weeks ago after full labour, ds being posterior and v big, pushed back the little progress he'd made and c section...still raw? Never!!

maxbear · 09/03/2008 20:58

Judging by what has been written here it seems to me it might be the opposite
