I have been having period like pains and backache since friday evening, last night I had an hour and a half of really intense contractions every few minutes, that suddenly stopped, had a few this morning as well, but now back to the period like pains and backache, how long could this go on for?

Peachy?

I need news!

MerlinsBeard · 27/03/2008 17:07

obviously your need to have babies is greater than my need for news..

VictorianSqualor · 27/03/2008 17:55

Sorry MoM, no news here.
Apart from not being able to bloody stand without feeling like baby is going to just fall out onto the floor it's all quiet on the VS front

HolidaysQueen · 27/03/2008 19:09

At my hospital check today (40wks), my BP was up again so they will induce me on Sunday if it continues to climb tomorrow & Saturday (back in both days for monitoring). They gave me a sweep to see if things will move along before that is necessary. Cervix was soft and pretty thin, and she was able to get a finger in, so it may work I guess. At least it wasn't clamped shut! Any particular tips for helping it along now, or do I just try the usual pineapple, spicy food, walks, sex, bouncing on ball etc.?

Rather irritatingly, baby did a big movement last night and I felt the front of my belly go flabby. I wondered if he had suddenly gone posterior after weeks of being LOA, and despite me immediately getting on all fours to try and shift him back I got confirmation that he had indeed moved at the hospital this afternooon. Grrr!

fryalot · 27/03/2008 19:15

MoM - I am not pg. I have not had anyone ask to be my friend on fb for a little while.

I suspect you have not added me

I have a pic of boo on my fb profile

VictorianSqualor · 27/03/2008 20:32

MoM, you added me on fb but it's not a pic of a pg woman...

turtle23 · 27/03/2008 20:36

Lulumama · 27/03/2008 20:40

copied and pasted from babycentre:

Sleepy baby
Babies come in all shapes and sizes, and they have very different feeding patterns. Some are frequent feeders, some have large gaps between feeds, and of course there are many variations in between.

Most babies tend to sleep a lot in the first 24 hours after delivery. They are often very alert and ready for a feed immediately after the birth, but then take a long rest. If you were given pethidine or other drugs during your delivery, they may have passed through to the placenta and your baby may be sleepy until the effects of the drugs wear off.

However, some babies continue to sleep a lot in the early days, which means they don?t feed often enough and so don?t get the milk they need to thrive. Too many long sleeps can result in a vicious circle developing, where the baby doesn?t get enough milk to give him the energy to wake up at the right time for the next feed.

Your baby needs to get plenty of fluids to gain weight and he also needs to feed regularly for you to establish breastfeeding, so it?s best not to let him sleep through too many meals. Ask your midwife or GP to check his progress.

Remedies

If your baby is sleepy, try the following to stir him:

Change his nappy
Wipe his face with a cool face cloth
Remove his clothing down to his vest
Look for signs that he is stirring or in a light sleep and wake him, then
Squeeze breast milk into his mouth to get him interested

fryalot · 27/03/2008 20:43

Turtle!!!! well done and congratulations

Gorgeous name.

AnguaVonUberwald · 27/03/2008 20:51

Turtle23 - Congratulations, so glad for you!!!!

I went to have my sweep today and my cervix is: Closed and posterior!!!

So all the stuff that has been going on for the last two/three weeks has made absolutely no difference at all!!! All that pain totally wasted!

They have scheduled me for an induction on Monday!!

But I don't know what the chances of that working are, given the state of my cervix? Any advice from our lovely Doulas?

HolidayQueen, We might be induced at the same time, it would be funny if it was the same hospital!

HolidaysQueen · 27/03/2008 22:47

Angua - I'm at Queen Charlotte's in west London - that where you are by any chance?

So I went for a brisk walk and then spent a lot of the evening bouncing on the ball. I've now got a fair amount of contractions and a bit of tummy ache but, as tummy ache does not coincide with contractions, I think I'm just having excessive BH and ate something dodgy for dinner

Off to bed, and almost hoping I wake up in the middle of the night in agony as I'm sick of having zero labour symptoms now!

Prisci · 27/03/2008 23:12

Congratulation Turtle and great name!!

MarsLady · 28/03/2008 01:58

Well done turtle. Babies seem to have a habit of forgetting how to feed on day 2 but don't worry. I'm reasonably sure that by the time you read these posts Pascal would have fed several more times.

Angua... make love to that gorgeous man of yours. Bonk his brains out. Oh and relax. I'm sure that all this stressing about whether or not the baby is going to come is holding the baby back.

Start to visualise your baby coming down, your body opening up and the baby being born.

VictorianSqualor · 28/03/2008 08:09

G'Morning people, just signed into MN to find out at least one of my ante-natalers is having her baby RIGHT NOW and another seems promising so I hope it's another flood of babies and those of you waiting forever finally get started!

I had ctx last night for about two hours, every ten minutes, didn't mention it to DP cos I thought it would be sods law that if I told him it would stop, just aout to go to bed and told him but said we'd go bed anyway try and get some sleep just incase....within an hour they stopped

Was quite surprised by them though, the ones I had before were kind of spread across my belly, these ones were down really low

VictorianSqualor · 28/03/2008 08:11

Congratulations Turtle, lovely name, I wouldn't worry too much about baby not feeding, from what I can remember DS was like that, I was petrified but the lovely midwife reassured me he had enough fat stores for a day or two then he'd be hungry and start to wake up more.

fryalot · 28/03/2008 08:13
merryberry · 28/03/2008 09:10

congrats Turtle, so happy for you all!
yes, don't panic if the mars remedies for waking don't seem to have him feeding like a trouper for a day, he has a good top from those 3 feeds and if you look at that roll of fat around the back of his neck? apparently that and other fat deposits are especially tailored to be bio-available for a new borns first few days. expect him to lose some weight therefore, mine both lost 7% of theirs in the 1st week, and usually recover it by 3-4 weeks.

littleducks · 28/03/2008 09:46

turtle has had her baby! yippee! as to feeding he is probably knackered from birth, i think like mum baby is quite high and alert on adrenaline when born the feels the effects on day two! dont let him get to warm and snuggly when he is feedin, maybe undo his bottom half of his babygro when feeding for a few feeds without a blanket and change his nappy before feeding.

Dh has taken dd to see mil this am as she is off abroad for three weeks tomorrow and he is working tomorrow. Im going to try and get waxing done as it has grown back since the last time i got 'prepared for possible labour' I am even considering a bikini wax never done that before but realised that bump had been blocking out view of everything below so there is no chance of me tidying it up myself!

As to labour, i think perhaps i am not really pregnant, i def dont think im having a baby soon! Everyone around me is stressed and keeps sugesting things to do but i am no longer bothered, i wanted easter weekend so if not then im not fussed anymore.

Peachy · 28/03/2008 11:28

Agree with all the advice Turtle, found with ds2 that stripping him down to nappy was the only way to get him to feed effectively at first as he needed that stimulation to wake up (sadly, that didn't last LOL). personally i think that it's programmed into them to gice you a day of rest before they start really going for the milk, just keep an eye out for when baby is naturally more wakeful and take your cues from him, it's by far the best way to establish BF I think anyhow. Congrats BTW, love the name.

Well ladies, feel as if I truly belong on this thread now as ytoday is the first of my 2 due dates (other is Sunday) and still nothing.

Angua- my cervix never dilates before I go ihnto labour, including prior to my induction with ds1 which they rpedicted would take 4 days and I went into labour that evening, delivered him the next day. Womens bodies vary very much in how much they get in terms of prelabour, as a rule I don't get anything in terms of show / dilation / waters breaking etc and it could well be that you're the same but it doesn't mean anything bad. DS3 was delivered the day before his planned induction for being oversue btw, it does happen.

nezelette · 28/03/2008 12:11

Thanks for congratulations ladies.

Well done Turtle!!! Great Easter name!! Can't wait for birth story!! Anton didn't eat for almost a whole day after feeding well in hospital, but now he's eating for England (well, and France I guess, as he's half and half I suppose!) So no worries!

Angua, my cervix was totally shut 12 hours before DD popped out, so it's not always bad...

HolidaysQueen · 28/03/2008 16:32

Okay, I've just had my 5th show of mucus in 23 days... First a yellow plug, then two tiny bits with brown bleeds, then a lot of brown-tinged mucus last Saturday and finally, just now, another big lot that was pinkish with some streaks of brighter red in it.

Please, is that IT? Can I now go into labour? Or is it just a side effect of the sweep I had 24 hours ago?

Or maybe I am not actually pregnant at all and am instead just growing an 8lb blob of mucus in my tummy?

Ladies - if I don't get any more labour symptoms this weekend, I may be changing my name to MucusQueen!

JFly · 28/03/2008 18:17

HQ! I hope so! Sounds similar to what happened to me. I had a show over 24 hours or so. Show started before contractions and initially was just lots of mucus with no stain, changing to more colour over time. As contractions continued, show increased and was pinky/red.

Any other signs????

I hope this is it....My contractions started day after acupuncture and just hours before I was meant to go in for induction. Hear's hoping!!!!

AnguaVonUberwald · 28/03/2008 20:48

Peachy and Nezlette, thank you that is very comforting, here's hoping it all happens before the induction!

Marslady, you could well be right, I am a stress bunny and the more overdue I get the more stressed I am so it could well be a bit of a viscious (sp) circle. I am trying to relax but am not terribly good at it!

NO news here today, no contractions, no show, no sign of baby.

HolidayQueen, hoping your show(s) finally lead to labour for you!

I am in Bromley so we won't be meeting in Hospital either way! Best of luck.
