How long in hospital post section

Janefx40 · 25/02/2023 20:18

I'm almost definitely having a planned section with my second baby. My first was an emergency so it was all a bit different.

If you had an planned c section how long did you stay in hospital? I realise that it may depend a bit if there are any complications etc but I'm wanting to try and plan the date around "if things go well" and then we will manage if things change at the time.

Just trying to pick the best date for childcare etc

Thanks

I was out in less than 24 hours.

Youcancallmeirrelevant · 25/02/2023 20:24

Yep, 24hours or less, if theres no complications they want you add. Best thing dor c section rexovery is movement/walking

Razberryberet · 25/02/2023 20:31

I had a planned c section 11 weeks ago I was home just over 24 hours later which is usual as long as you have no complications. Good luck!!

HiImTheProblemItsMe · 25/02/2023 20:31

24 hours both times. They get you up and moving as quickly as possible and are always keen to get you home (thank goodness because I can never sleep in hospital!).

Lkydfju · 25/02/2023 20:34

I had baby at 3pm and was in 2 nights but if I’d had him earlier in the day I’d of been ok to come home after 1 night

Lkydfju · 25/02/2023 20:34

Even with a toddler at home it was more restful at home than the ward so less is better in my experience

Crazytoddler83 · 25/02/2023 20:34

Yep. Just over 24 hours for me too.

AnneLovesGilbert · 25/02/2023 20:35

I’m in the same position but definitely booked in for ELCS and been wondering the same. I was in 5 days last time after EMCS and a GA. Hoping to be home asap this time.

My consultant said they’ve put me on the enhanced recovery plan and I’ve got a bunch of info on what it means. But I had an appointment with an anaesthetist afterwards who was much more cautious based on my notes from last time. So we shall see.

webuiltthiscityonrockandwheat · 25/02/2023 20:36

I went in for 8am, c section at 11.50 and I was home before tea the next day. I definitely couldn't pick a date though! I got what I was given

Worriedmum40284 · 25/02/2023 20:37

Mine was semi-planned - I was booked in for a section due to DS being breach bimut went into labour a few days prior. Was it theatre very quickly so not an emergency as such.

I had 3 nights in but had a smallish PPH so was straightaway told it would be 2, and then had difficulties establishing breastfeeding so was kept in 1 more.

Tallie27 · 25/02/2023 20:37

About 20 hours later

motleymop · 25/02/2023 20:38

As @Lkydfju said, I've been told I will likely be out the next day, unless the operation is performed late (not sure what time constitutes late, but the afternoon sometime), in which case I'll be in for 2 nights.

Nottodaty · 25/02/2023 20:45

With my first I was pushed out to the afternoon slot and so I spent three nights (I’m a high risk so needed to stay in) 2nd time had the morning slot and home after two nights - they would have let me home after 1 night but it’s just because they need to keep an eye on me a tiny bit more.
Due to me being high risk I had to have them on the days that the consultant was around so limited on choice.

Lmgify · 25/02/2023 20:49

10 nights, had complications though even though it was elective. My emergency one I was out within 48 hours

Bodybags · 25/02/2023 20:50

Less than 24 hours.

CrabDuckDuckCrab · 25/02/2023 20:52

In at 8am, section at 9:30am, home the next day by 1pm. It was great!

CatNamedBob · 25/02/2023 20:56

Less than 24 hours

wednesdayrobyn · 25/02/2023 20:58

About 24 hours. I had an emergency section with my first and was in for a week. It was such a different experience. I loved my planned section, all the staff were like lovely and it was so calm. Recovery was so much quicker as well. Hope it all goes well for you op.

Xrays · 25/02/2023 21:01

A week. My completely planned section became a bit of a nightmare in that they discovered I had completely undiagnosed severe placenta prévia (despite having no bleeding at all and a scan for unrelated reasons at 34 weeks!) and I basically lost 3 litres of blood. Several transfusions later… well I’m still here and Ds is 10 now. The only reason I opted for a section was because my first birth ten years before that had been very long and difficult (60 hour induction ending in ventouse). I guess you never know how these things will go! Hopefully it will be straightforward though. Most people are in and out within a day or two.

Janefx40 · 25/02/2023 21:09

Thanks everyone. I'll talk to my consultant but 24 hours would be amazing! I'm sort of high risk on paper but not actually night risk! So I'll see if that balances out

@AnneLovesGilbert best of luck with your delivery xx

I had my section about 9am on the friday morning and came home sunday teatime. I was high risk due to bmi. Nobody discussed staying in i was just sort of let
to it but baby was on special care from being born and I didn’t feel well enough on the Saturday to come home, so probably a mix of those i just naturally stayed in. Baby ended up coming home monday lunchtime

TellSomeoneElse · 25/02/2023 21:17

I was in at 7am on the Friday, had baby at 12:30pm, went home at about 11am on the Sunday. I was absolutely fine, getting about just fine by the evening of the Friday, but baby didn’t poop straightaway and they wouldn’t let me leave til he did, then they couldn’t get someone to ‘sign me out’ for love nor money. I hated it, it was still in covid restrictions and I was desperate to be home.
The C-section itself was a walk in the park tho, and so was recovery. Hope you get that too 😊 best of luck x

urrrgh46 · 25/02/2023 21:18

@Janefx40 on paper i was high risk - 9th birth, blood thinners, age 44 (at time of birth). The c section was my second emcs. I was out in 24hrs.

davegrohll · 25/02/2023 21:20

Had section around at 4.30am and was home by 6pmish the next day - they don't keep you in long if they don't have too ! But it feels like an eternity waiting for the discharge paperwork ! If you can - get one last dose of oramorph before you leave !

Gremlins101 · 25/02/2023 21:22

It would be 3-4 days here in Ireland, so different. 24 hours seems so quick.
