How long in hospital post section

I'm almost definitely having a planned section with my second baby. My first was an emergency so it was all a bit different.

If you had an planned c section how long did you stay in hospital? I realise that it may depend a bit if there are any complications etc but I'm wanting to try and plan the date around "if things go well" and then we will manage if things change at the time.

Just trying to pick the best date for childcare etc

Thanks

Went in Friday morning and out Sunday. Would have been earlier but busy ward and no-one around to do the baby checks.

Youraccountisnolongervalid · 25/02/2023 21:25

Monday - Thursday with my 1st as he was jaundice within 24 hours with my second.

Second section, baby born 11am, home 4pm the next day and really had to push for it - up and about about 6 hours after, had to ask for catheter and cannula out etc and they were like, are you sure, are you sure? Etc

First section I was on the HDU for one night and then another night in the normal bit so not really what you’re asking. Lost half my blood volume and home on day 2 so not too bad going really.

You can just leave though I think. I just got packed up so they knew I was serious, baby was in car seat, room tidy etc and it hurried them up a bit. But you can just go, I asked. I was like, I’m gonna go (had 2 other kids I was missing) 😄

1st ECC 8 nights, 2nd Planned CC 4 nights ,3rd planned CC 1 night - home & taking 2 DS to 1st day at school & nursery

Pinkprescription · 25/02/2023 21:33

12 hours after my third.

Thank you, and to you!

Mine was proper textbook, couldn’t have gone much more straightforward, baby wasn’t really feeding that well but I still left exactly 24 hours later and so did everyone in my ward (in Scotland)

Next day, both times.

MamaBear1022 · 25/02/2023 22:44

C section at 6pm, home the following day at 6:30pm

Somuchgoo · 25/02/2023 22:48

2 nights both times, but for both I was offered discharge after the first night, but as it was quiet, they said I could stay extra if I wanted.

My local hospital is great, so I took them up on this, and both times I was glad I stayed the extra night, with my recovery was very quick. I know someone who for their third managed to stay 3 nights, as it was more restful than home.

But, it's a small unit, they cook the actually decent food on site, bring it to your bed, bring you cups of tea, actually answer call buzzers really quickly and are genuinely lovely.

5 days with no 1 but dd was small and jaundiced. 24 hrs for 2,3 and 4.

Janefx40 · 25/02/2023 22:56

@Gremlins101 it's nice that you are given a bit more time in Ireland but with another one at home, I'd rather just get back I think

@davegrohll good tip about the oremorph.

I'm not sure how much I'll get to pick the date anyway but don't ask don't get right!

It would be 3-4 days here in Ireland, so different. 24 hours seems so quick.

I was in for 3 - 4 days in England, but that was 20 years ago Grin

poppylock · 26/02/2023 01:09

My hospital lets you bring the oramorph home with you which is worth doing if you can.

Approx 24 hours for mine.

MusicWithRocksIn · 26/02/2023 01:14

Had her at midday Monday, discharged early afternoon Tuesday.

Namechanger355 · 26/02/2023 01:18

Stayed in for 5 days after my first emergency one a few years ago

had an elective in December due to GD - gave birth on the Friday morning and was out by Saturday afternoon after I walked and passed urine

midwife said I could have stayed for another night but had no sleep whatsoever on the ward and was itching to get back

I recovered ok - but did then get an excruciating infection after 6 weeks as was doing too much too quickly eg drop offs so I should have taken it a bit easier
