Lulumama · 06/02/2008 18:33

mai oui!

i trained with nurturing birth and am undergoing recognition process to be a recognised doula with doula uk

all doulas are independent, i.e not employed by the NHS or the hospital...AFAIK !

it is amazing, although i do not work as much as i want to due to lack of childcare and i have had a quiet start to the year... but it is truly the most wonderful thing ever !!

speak to marslady ... she is the doula

SnappyLaGore · 06/02/2008 18:36

ah yes, i forgot mars was a doula too...

so, are you 'on call' when one fo your women is due? and therefore could be out all night with v short notice?

am wondering how feasible it is to think about doing this/fitting it into my life

all night or all day .. that is my struggle.. i have little or no childcare at times.. so have to arrange things as carefully as i can..! that is the most stressful thing for me

am looking at some different child care options at the mo, and training as an antenatal educator as a way of earning regular money, which will enable me to afford better childcare so i can doula more!

but it is always worth the stress!!

workstostaysane · 06/02/2008 18:48

hey there lulu,
hope you manage to sort out childcare stuff. its a nightmare in my job as well.
FWIW my doula was the absolute bestest thing about my last child's birth. doulas rock.
(i found her on doula uk)

Lulumama · 06/02/2008 18:54

thank you

worst case scenario, i put doulaing on hold until DD is at school, which is 18 months time... and do other birthy things in the meantime!

glad you found a doula to be positive..

what is it that you do? if that is not too nosy?

SnappyLaGore · 06/02/2008 18:56

MarsLady · 06/02/2008 20:58

Hello my darlings.

There's a new Doula UK recognised training course: Developing Doulas that is also worth a look

lulu

Daisymoo · 06/02/2008 21:58

Oooh yes, do the Developing Doulas course. I work with one of the doulas who runs it (we did a birth together last week) and she is fab and an amazing doula.

Lulumama · 07/02/2008 07:24

why mars?

daisy, glad to hear doulaing is going well c

MarsLady · 07/02/2008 17:40

because you called me the doula! lol

MrsMattie · 07/02/2008 17:42

Lulu, are you doing the NCT antenatal educator training?
Got my first tutorial at the end of the month !
Loked at the NB Doula course - may still do it...

wildwoman · 07/02/2008 17:43

I did the Nurturing Birth course, it was fab and I would really reccomend it.

MarsLady · 07/02/2008 18:09

I did and enjoyed the ParamanaDoula course with Michel Odent.

Loved it. Made me want another baby then I remembered that I had 5 and enough was enough!

wildwoman · 07/02/2008 18:11

I'm so jealous that you have met Michel Odent. One of his books completely changed my birth experience.

Lulumama · 07/02/2008 18:11

but you are , mars, you are!

mrsm - am going to do the childbirth international course, as i looked thoroughly into the NCT and it was just not going to be practical for me on many levels.... i hope it goes really well for you

MarsLady · 07/02/2008 18:12

Ooh which one?

He was so lovely. After we'd all said how our own births had been he said to me "Well what do we need to teach you? You could teach us all" [proud emoticon]

3Ddonut · 07/02/2008 18:12

I think it was called Birth and Breastfeeding. It just explained about not stimulating the neo cortex etc, luckily I think my midwife had read similar as she basically left me to get on with it. She was fab too, hardly spoke to me barely touched me.

Lulumama · 07/02/2008 18:19

hi donut ! that is good to hear, wildwoman..

mars, see, you are the doula ! i;d love to hear about your births one day

i wonder how odent feels about male MWs and obstetricians then??

MarsLady · 07/02/2008 18:22
