I'm so nervous to go to the toilet I have been holding it off for a few days now, how bad was your first number 2 experience after a 1st and 2nd tear 😢

It wasn't painful and I had an episiotomy and tear. I did make sure I was eating enough fibre and taking dulcolease.
Don't hold it in you can impact it and make the whole situation a lot worse x

The physio advised me to put my fingers on the perineal area to provide support while going to the toilet.

Isahlo · 14/11/2022 23:45

I held my wound with a maxi pad and then pood like normal xx good luck

boringbrain · 14/11/2022 23:46

I was so scared about this but when the urge came, I sat down and it all came out in one go thankfully and it was easier to go on the following days and never had an issue with it. I do admit I was so frightened and hoping the urge came as i also had an episiotomy and a second degree tear.

boringbrain · 14/11/2022 23:46

Hoping the urge never came

sunflowerdaisyrose · 14/11/2022 23:47

I also held a pad over the stitches, took lactolose and put my feet on a stool. It was fine but I was nervous!

Coconutcream123 · 14/11/2022 23:49

@chlo2022 I was very sore sitting on the sofa for a long time. I had to sit on a dining chair and invested in a rubber ring thing to sit on (as did a lot of my friends!). The stinging did ease after a week postpartum.
I know this might be a bit gross to some, but weeing in the shower eases the sting. Or you can buy these water spray things to use whilst urinating (Google is your friend!). Not very glamorous I know.
Epsom salts in the bath as well. X

shangelawasrobbed · 14/11/2022 23:49

I had an episiotomy, and I found that holding a maternity pad against my stitches/perineum really helped. It was nowhere near as bad as I was expecting.

Coconutcream123 · 14/11/2022 23:50

Also mix flaxseed with cereal that will make your poo softer!

shangelawasrobbed · 14/11/2022 23:52

I also found a peri bottle really helped when going for a wee. I had this one: www.boots.com/fridamom-upside-down-peri-bottle-10292827

Anoisagusaris · 14/11/2022 23:55

I had a 3rd degree tear and they gave me ducolax in the hospital. The combination meant I shat myself for over a week post-birth. No one prepared me for that possibility!!

notangelinajolie · 14/11/2022 23:57

Lactulose is your friend.

chlo2022 · 15/11/2022 00:12

Thanks everyone you have all made me feel a bit at ease I guess the more I hold it in the worse it's going to be!

I was petrified about having a poo after a 2nd degree tear, I remember sweating with fear when the urge to go came. Sat on the loo , sweating , legs shaking and it came it with no pain. The relief after I had been was immense.

Opine · 15/11/2022 00:45

Soak cotton wool pads with cooled boiled water and hold it over your stitches when you wee.
hold it from behind so you don’t wee on your hand, stand up and slightly bend over. The wee will flow forwards and any splashes will be diluted by the wet compress. Don’t wring the compress by the way. Have it very wet.

Ive had a labial tear, a 3rd degree, a huge episiotomy… horrendous pain so I really feel for you. C section not even half the agony.
hope you feel better soon.

chlo2022 · 15/11/2022 01:18

I treasure to go and my stitches hurt so much its making me cry! But the urge to go is really bad I don't know what tp do I feel like having a mental break down do you think a warm bath will help the stinging then try again 🥺😭

OP, I think the urge to go is your friend here - it should

MasterCherry · 15/11/2022 11:47

Urgh sorry, posted too soon...
The worst thing IME is when you get really constipated and you have to push and push to get it out. If you can feel the need to go, it should be much easier. Can you hold something clean against your stitches, sit down on the toilet and try to really really relax, with only the tiniest pushes if you need to? You will feel so much better when you've done it.

Squeezedsquash · 15/11/2022 12:03

Feet on a step and lifted out. And eat lots of fibre stuff. You need to do it and the worst it can be is as bad as you expect but having gone.

MummyJ36 · 15/11/2022 13:43

Are you taking Lactulose? That was my saviour when I had a second degree tear and episiotomy with DC1. Also don’t strain, if it’s not coming don’t force it. As grim as it sounds I found having a bath and waiting until I was properly relaxed to the point of almost cr*pping myself then jumping out and going to the loo was the winning combo!!

@chlo2022 I found baths can make things a bit worse for the first couple of weeks. They soften the stitches and as they dry they harden and tighten again. Actually I can’t think of any other circumstance where stitches and a new woukd should be immersed in water so it makes sense not to.
Maybe stick to showers for now.

Also, around day 5-8 was always worst for me. Truly wished the ground would swallow me up. I don’t know where you’re at but hopefully you’ll be feeling better soon.

congrats on your new baby too
