Tiny baby clothes

Cbear2001 · 25/03/2022 12:04

Hi everyone I just need some advice about tiny baby clothes I’m currently 36 weeks and 2 days my baby has been estimated to weigh 5 pound 6 today I have scans every week due to her weight being slow 2 weeks ago she was weighing 4 pound 11 the midwife told me today her estimated weight will roughly be 7 pound at birth so I’m just wondering if tiny baby clothes will fit her or not? I have quite a few tiny baby clothes and would be a shame for them to go to waste

Thankyou in advance for all answers and advice☺️

I wouldn’t say tiny baby will but newborn deffo will.
Mine were both in tiny baby at full term ish , 5lb 8 and 6lb for the first 3/4 weeks until they got to about 7lbish.

The might fit straight off, ie first few days but not much after that.

Ozanj · 25/03/2022 12:08

My son was 7 pounds and needed 0-3 mths because of his height. 6-7 pounds isn’t ‘tiny baby’ either - its newborn.

romdowa · 25/03/2022 12:09

My fella was 6 11 and o/3 was definitely too big. I'd get some new born stuff for the first few weeks

Trinacham · 25/03/2022 12:10

Not really sure what tiny baby clothes are. Are they the same as newborn? My son was 6lb 7oz and he was wearing newborn for a few weeks

Does it advise on the labels what weight they fit? All of DS's clothes do

BusterGonad · 25/03/2022 12:11

Tiny baby would be my son born at 1lb 10oz! 😂 He came out of hospital at just under 5lbs. I bought a few baby grow sets in Mothercare.

MarianosOnHisWay · 25/03/2022 12:17

My first was 5lbs 7oz and she wore tiny baby (from mothercare) for around 2 weeks. My second was 6lbs 13oz and didn’t need tiny baby size, went straight to newborn. I wouldn’t have thought a 7lb baby would need tiny baby size but if you want to get a couple of basic vests and baby grows just in case, the supermarkets such as asda and Sainsbury’s do them.

Peppermint81 · 25/03/2022 12:21

7oz is a decent size, definitely not a tiny baby. Newborn to start with, few weeks 0-1m.

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 25/03/2022 12:21

DD was 6lb8oz and she was in tiny baby clothes from Tesco until she was four weeks old.

She's still a delicate little thing, now - she's three but has bits of 18mo clothing that still fit her. She weighs more than you'd think, though. I think she's just dense Grin

ComDummings · 25/03/2022 12:23

Mine were just under 6lb and wore tiny baby size for about 3/4 weeks so maybe buy a couple of tiny baby bits the week before so you can return them if they’re too small. Newborn was quite big and looked like it swamped them Grin but they grow so quickly!

Cbear2001 · 25/03/2022 12:23

Personally I would get a variety of basics in a variety of weight options.

My eldest was predicted to be a tiny baby. I consistently measured 4 weeks behind from 28 weeks on and was sent for weekly growth scans towards the end. Everyone I saw said how tiny a baby he would be.

He was 8lbs on the nose.

I had to send DH out for an emergency dash to Mothercare as all the clothes I'd bought were for tiny babies.

RoostasTowel · 25/03/2022 12:28

They can wildly over or underestimate baby's weight.
Do you have "newborn" size as well? I don't think 7lbs is "tiny baby" and she might be turn out to be bigger than that. I'd take newborn size in your hospital bag.

You can sell the clothes or pass them on to friends if you don't use them.

dillydallydollydaydream7 · 25/03/2022 12:31

Our DDs were 6.1 and 5.5 and were both in tiny baby for about 3 months if this helps?

tealandteal · 25/03/2022 12:31

DS was 7lb 1oz and only in newborn for a few weeks as he was so long. I would have some newborn in the hospital bag as well.

CrabbyCat · 25/03/2022 12:42

It's worth remembering you can put them in clothes that are too big. With them not moving much immediately one size too big really isn't much of an issue other than looking a bit baggy. If what you have is too small, there's nothing you can do. On that basis, I'd have more newborn in your hospital bag - somebody can bring in more tiny baby when they visit you if needed.

YummyMummyXoX · 25/03/2022 12:46

I don't know if this helps but my 1st was 8lb5 and in tiny baby clothes because he was big but very long and dainty family got me a few tiny baby bits for like a fortnight.
Hope everything goes well 💕💕💕

StillUp · 25/03/2022 12:47

My baby was born smaller than predicted at 5lb15. We only had things in newborn size, but they drowned her so we panic bought a few tiny baby bits. They said up to 5lb on the label but she did wear them for a couple of weeks. It depends on their shape as to what will fit. If your baby arrives at the predicted size then they may get some use out of the tiny size you’ve already bought, but I wouldn’t buy any more as most are up to around 5lb. And definitely pack some newborn size things too!

minniep · 25/03/2022 13:06

I had two who were born at 5lbs5 and one was 6 lbs 3. Mine were all premature so In the nicu and all had feeding issues so while all thankfully thrived eventually they were all in tiny baby stuff for a while. My middle child was the slowest to gain weight. I loved Next tiny baby stuff.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 25/03/2022 13:10

'Tiny baby' size is around 5lb weight
'Newborn' size is around 7lb
'0-3' starts around 9lb

For other posters, 'tiny baby' is the name of a size range available in some shops..

DD was born 8lb 11oz, fit into newborn for the first week then needed to size up to 0-3.

Cbear2001 · 25/03/2022 13:23

Does anyone know what size the first size is I’m getting really confused now

OP posts:
StillUp · 25/03/2022 13:33

I think first size is slightly bigger than newborn. At least it is in next. There should be an ‘up to’ weight on the label.

StillUp · 25/03/2022 13:36

Actually no, I think first size is next’s version of newborn, then ‘up to 1 month’ is slightly bigger. I’m confusing myself now too Grin

bunnypenny · 25/03/2022 13:37

My children were 6lbs 8, 6lbs 10 and 7lbs 9 and all wore tiny baby, then newborn/ up to 1 month and then 0-3months. As ever the brands differ wildly re sizing (eg H&M is huge I find)

Overthebow · 25/03/2022 13:47

First size is the same as new born so around 7lb. Tiny baby is more for 5-6 lb, my DC was in it until almost 7lb when she moved up to newborn/first size.

Cleothecat75 · 25/03/2022 14:13

I found you need to check the individual label as the sizes and what different companies call them does differ. I think my dc started in new born/up to 10lb clothes but I had A Couple of bits given to me in the size smaller than that, and although they fitted ds (born at 7lb) to start with, they didn’t get much use as he grew quickly (Definitely out of them by day 14). Dc3 never fitted in them at all as she was 8lb at birth.

Personally, I think the size we started with (up to 10lb) would suit most average sized full term babies (assuming the average weight for a full term baby is around 7lb). Are you able to exchange your tiny baby clothes for the next size up? Although if your baby makes an early appearance you might need them. It’s difficult to gauge, but shops are open all the time, so if you need something urgently, you can pop in to The shops and pick up whatever you are short of at short notice (dh definitely did this on his way to the hospital to visit me and dc1).
