Tiny baby clothes

Hi everyone I just need some advice about tiny baby clothes I’m currently 36 weeks and 2 days my baby has been estimated to weigh 5 pound 6 today I have scans every week due to her weight being slow 2 weeks ago she was weighing 4 pound 11 the midwife told me today her estimated weight will roughly be 7 pound at birth so I’m just wondering if tiny baby clothes will fit her or not? I have quite a few tiny baby clothes and would be a shame for them to go to waste

Thankyou in advance for all answers and advice☺️

Best bet is to get a small number of vests and sleep suits in newborn and 0-3.

1 multipack of each. Then send someone out to buy more of whichever size fits

If you want to spread the cost then add money to a Giftcard for the shop that you like and is easy to get to so you can stock up all in one go when you know the size.

It was much simpler when all babies wore nighties for the first three months.

My baby was 7lbs when born and lost a bit of weight after birth before regaining.

Newborn seemed too big at first - she was practically swimming in her clothes. I got fed up and insisted DH buy her some tiny baby clothes.

However...tiny baby was far too small. She didn't wear any of them (maybe a vest for about two days). Pretty soon after that the newborn clothes started to fit her properly, and fairly quickly she was in 0-3 months.

Don't waste your money on tiny baby if your baby is estimated to be around 7lbs.

I'd take the tiny baby stuff back if you've still got the tags attached. Just pack 3 sets of newborn/first size and 3 sets of up to 1 month. If baby is smaller you can just do an online order to come the next day.

I wouldn’t take too tiny.
Ds was estimated 5lb at 35 week scan. He was 8lb8 born and 53cm. Newborn is usually 50cm, so he was like the hulk in those and went straight into 1month+ for about a week until 0-3 months.

I don't think they'll fit. My babies were nearly 8lb and both wore 'first size/newborn' for two weeks then 0-1 month.

Tiny baby is really for prem babies as the weight of the clothes is usually for below 5 pounds.

7 pounds is normal and they’ll fit into newborn just fine. It’s best for you to have more newborn and 0-3 than tiny baby as that’ll most likely be too small

I do think weight estimations are often way out compared to reality.
I was measuring very big and was predicted a big baby. Growth scans sort of confirmed that too. I was looking at a 9lb baby when im basically 5ft tall.
I packed 2 newborn outfits and the rest were 0-3months. No tiny baby based on the scans and measurements.

Baby was born at 6lb8oz.
0-3month clothes were HUGE.
Newborn clothes were also massive but did the job, except her hands and feet didnt meet the appropriate holes she they just sat in the main body of the sleepsuit.
We ended up buying tiny baby stuff which actually lasted almost a month (she lost alot of weight after birth).
Even now she is still in 0-3 and she is over 4months old.

Take a decent variety of clothes.
And back outfits in sandwich bags along with a nappy and hat to make your life easier in hospital.

I think you’re over thinking. I’d return everything smaller than newborn if you can. If you do end up with a really tiny baby you can always get stuff if newborn is massive. You’re so unlikely to need anything else in your hospital bag - most newborn goes up to 9/10lb weight.

RandomQuest · 28/03/2022 11:35

Newborn should be the correct size for a 7lb baby. If you do need tiny baby, which isn’t massively likely for a full term birth, then baby will be ok in a too big sleep suit for a day whilst you order online with next delivery or send someone to a shop. And don’t trust the scans too much- with DC2 I had scans with a fetal medicine consultant every 2-4 weeks and was predicted a 6.5-7lb baby who ended up being 8lb3 when I gave birth at 39 weeks and the newborn didn’t fit so DH had to go home for the 0-3 month clothes!!

My boy was 6lb 10 and wore tiny baby for three/four weeks. We didn't buy loads and he just wore sleepsuits that were slightly big for him. We had none tiny baby as I thought he would have been fine with newborn.

Bells3032 · 05/04/2022 18:38

My daughter fit into tiny baby from about 6 to 7lbs. so if expecting around the 7lb mark i'd probably go straight to newborn
