C-section pain relief

Had an planned section last Thursday, so almost a week ago. Came home on the Friday and have been religiously taking ibruprofen and paracetamol on a six hourly schedule since I left hospital but not sure when I should start trying to taper off the meds? How long did you take painkillers for after your section? - I'm not in any pain at the moment but not sure if that's because I've been taking them so religiously on a schedule!

Thanks!

We're just giving this thread a bump for the OP in case anyone's around to answer her query. Flowers

I stopped taking any pain relief after two days, once I was home, so I’m probably not exactly the one to ask, but I guess a reasonable way of testing it would be to leave it a little longer before you take your next dose. See how you feel and go from there.
Congratulations Flowers

I was getting stressed at not being able to find where I'd put the pills and then realised I didn't need them (two days after). I was expecting there to be pain for a few days. I also had the mw laugh at me when she came to take the stitch out. I was wincing when she came towards me and didn't know that the area would have no feeling!

I gradually stopped taking pain killers after my c section and then stopped completely after about 10 days.

Dubgirl1212 · 20/01/2022 12:29

I was in the hospital for two days after my C sections. Once home I didn't take any painkillers. I was a bit sore and tender but didn't feel I needed anything.

I have had two c sections, not in the UK, both times I only received one injection of something after the spinal block wore off. Here you have to spend 7 days in hospital after a section, but you get no pain relief, and to be honest I didn’t really need it. So I am sure it would be fine to stop now. Just use any pain you do have to stop you over doing it, it is still early days.

I didn't take anything bar a few paracetamol on the first day, I really didn't feel like I needed it (they sent me home with paracetamol, ibuprofen and morphine).

I'd definitely stop them now if I were you, you shouldn't really need them, just listen to your body and don't overdo it. If you start to feel any pain then that's your body saying stop!

Dreadful advice - unless you’re medically trained and know the OP’s circumstances and surgery individually, keep this to yourself.

OP, we’re all different. I needed very regular pain relief for about 2 weeks after my section, but was down to just paracetamol by about 3 weeks. I found morning time was when I needed it most and I just took it as and when I felt I needed it. I can’t remember exactly when I stopped taking anything. I just found I was in much less discomfort after a while.

You're quite alright @elenacampana I don't have to keep anything to myself? Who do you think you are? Hmm

The OP asked for advice and asked when we stopped taking painkillers, I'm as entitled to give mine as you are and as she's not feeling any pain, it seems sensible not to put drugs into your body that you don't need so wind your neck in.

pradavilla · 20/01/2022 13:20

I don't think I was taking any after a week. Although I think a few times I was struggling after stopping and started again. Just cut down and see how u go.

The OP didn’t ask for advice, she asked how long other women had been taking painkillers for. So respectfully, wind your own neck in.

As for your other question, I think I’m someone on a forum who can say whatever she wants, within reason, and is really quite entertained by posters who respond like you so thanks for the giggle! 😆

You're absolutely welcome @elenacampana Grin

Hugasauras · 20/01/2022 21:57

You could try stretching the doses or dropping one and see if it makes any difference to your pain levels. I remember I didn't think they could be doing much until I missed a dose Grin I can't quite remember now but I think I was probably taking them for 10 days or so, although not as religiously towards the end. So just give it a go and see how you feel!
