An update:

I'm in the ward and everything looks fine. The midwife has made me feel a bit silly to be honestSadlike I shouldn't have come

She's been asking about anxiety and whether I see a mental health team which I find odd. I do take a low dose of medication but that's for ocd. Just feel like the pains haven't been taken seriously

Don’t feel silly, going in was the right thing to do!! Especially at 39 weeks.
I had contractions early and the midwives told me to take paracetamol and check back in an hour, luckily we ignored them and went straight in , turns out I was in active labour. It’s hard to judge symptoms over the phone and nobody really knows what’s going on without a scan or monitoring equipment .. better safe than sorry. You did the right thing

Panda8383 · 14/01/2022 02:07

I defo agree you’ve done the right thing and you weren’t being silly, it’s horrible the midwife is making you feel like that, she should be reassuring you, glad everything is ok xx

Lacedwithgrace · 14/01/2022 02:15

I'm glad everything's okay but so saddened to see how they've treated you. You might want to speak to PALs about this, no one should be made to feel silly about severe pain during pregnancy

timeisnotaline · 14/01/2022 02:16

Glad the baby is fine! I’ve posted a couple of times about strong muscle pain, can feel like a band across the top or one side of the top of my bump (I’m 34 weeks) Perhaps you’ve strained a muscle on that side? Hopefully not as that won’t help labour much.

immersivereader · 14/01/2022 02:21

^^
Me too. You're 39 weeks and had pain, and she thinks you have anxiety?

ouchkitten · 14/01/2022 02:57

Yes!! Really weird, I'm not sure if she thought I had just been overly anxious.
Anyway she's gone from that to 'do you think you're in labour? You have tightenings and cramps!' errr I don't know!!

Still not sure what's happening but I'll update you all

Stay strong and advocate for you and your baby OP. I’m 29 weeks and would not have hesitated to go in to get checked with these type of pains. I have friends who have been seen and reassured 2/3 times for reduced movements and they were taken seriously so should you be. Thinking of you!

Thinking2041 · 14/01/2022 03:19

Pls don’t let her make you feel silly.
You are must definitely not.

HappyMeal564 · 14/01/2022 03:28

Don't let her make you feel silly. You're carrying the most precious thing in the world. I remember contracting every 4 minutes for a minute and being told I'm hardly half a centimetre (after I left once then walked back in saying I need to be checked this is too painful) and I'd be booked for induction in 24 hours and to go home and rest. Went back in 3 hours later fully dilated and pushing. Listen to your body and be your own advocate, you are not being over the top. Best of luck, you will be great!

bobbythevet · 14/01/2022 13:59

Just checking in. All ok OP?

MissingGrandstand · 14/01/2022 14:23

@ouchkitten I feel so much for you! I had this EXACT thing earlier in the week, down to the dismissive attitude from the hospital. Constant pain in LHS that felt a bit like a stitch, so bad I was unable to talk and struggling to breathe normally. Rang triage - told to take paracetamol and call back in an hour. Called back - they asked why I hadn’t tried calling my GP first Hmm and seemed really annoyed at me ringing (I’m 36 weeks)

If it’s any consolation they then told me to ring my community midwife who was very annoyed at what they had said to me - she said I’d done the right thing by calling the hospital (when I told her they had told me to call her her response was “why?! They were the right people to call!”) and that if the pain continued she would ring them for me if I felt more comfortable

The pain just went away in my case and have seen the community midwife since and she was happy everything was ok, she said it was more than likely due to the baby dropping a bit further so fingers crossed for you! Just wanted to show some solidarity as I felt awful after the way the hospital spoke to me Flowers

ouchkitten · 14/01/2022 15:34

@MissingGrandstand oh how funny that we had the exact same experience mine also went away after a while and the doctor did confirm that the baby had dropped significantly, so maybe that really is what happened with you!
Good luck with your pregnancy xx

@bobbythevet thank you for checking in!

So I had to stay over night for monitoring because of her reduced movements and this was the third time I have had to be seen for it so they wanted to keep a close eye. It turned out I was having tightenings too so they kept an eye on those. In the morning it transpired that I had the choice of an induction or coming in for an ultrasound (in 4 days as I had a growth scan 10 days ago) to check the placenta etc.
I ended up choosing an induction as I just want my baby to be fine and the lack of movements is just too much to chance with.

I am nervous, my induction is on Sunday! I am well aware that they can be long and complicated processes, but I just want my girl to be okaySad

@ouchkitten horrible to hear how dismissive some midwifes are despite it constantly being drummed into you to report pain, reduced movement etc.
I had the same with ds1, lots of reduced movement throughout pregnancy and was under consultant care bc of this and was told to attend triage for such. Some where so horrible about it. I got induced at 38+4 and it is a long process but it's okay and they constantly monitor baby so that gives you peace of mind.

My ds was fine he's coming up for 2 and he just really likes to sleep 🤣🤣

Reallycantbesarsed · 15/01/2022 15:07

Good luck op and do not feel silly or over anxious. Am annoyed that you have been made to feel like that ! X

bobbythevet · 15/01/2022 16:37

Oh exciting OP! Good luck!!!

MissingGrandstand · 15/01/2022 21:54
