Er...I woke up at 2am on Saturday morning thinking I might be in labour, got to the hospital at 3.30am and baby Alice was born at 4.15am with no drugs and lots of screaming and shouting (from me). I was very naughty and didn't listen to the midwife and pant - four big pushes and she was out, I had a small but messy tear that they spent ages stitching up. It was all fast and furious but such a lovely birth compared to dd1's transverse op horror. They discharged me at 11am later that morning so we were back home for lunch.

Needless to say she's completely gorgeous and I am besotted. She weighed 8.1 and looks like an eskimo baby, lots of black hair, dark blue slanty eyes and lovely big red cheeks.

She cried constantly for the first night, constantly wanting to feed and then chewing her hands so I gave her 3oz of formula and since then she's been an angel. My milk has just started to come in and she seems fine on that now.

Dd1 is being very difficult and naughty bless her, she's really feeling it. Dreading next week when I'll have no help around the house AND its nursery half term - doh!

Well done Enid, she sounds gorgeous!

Janeway · 21/10/2002 16:32

Congratulations, and welcome to baby Alice
Especially nice to hear that things can go well after a previous horror - my ds was also transverse... No.2 is still theoretical

SueDonim · 21/10/2002 17:18

Zoe · 21/10/2002 17:48

Congratulations Enid and well done!

Hello Alice!

batey · 21/10/2002 17:58

Hooray!!!! Well done you, glad to hear it went well and welcome to the world Alice. Biased I know but having 2 girls is just lovely! Wishing you well for next week! Hope you've a good supply of videos! Take it easy, when you can??!!

P.S. Re dd1, remember the old addige, ignore the bad and praise (big time!) the good behaviour.

Tetley · 21/10/2002 19:46

Congratulations Enid! Sounds like you did really well!

Enid · 21/10/2002 20:07

I was sort of induced, the consultant did a 'sweep' on Friday morning and said that he was sure that would get things going - boy, did it! I personally think things got started after the massive row that dp and I had on Saturday night

batey, I cried with joy after Alice was born because I had 2 girls, it just seems lovely. I didn't mind what I had, and I am sure dp would have secretly loved a boy but I am over the moon with my two gorgeous girls!

Enid - brilliant news, I am SO pleased you had a very happy experience and so much better than last this time... hopefully it will re-assure some (rightly) traumatised with their first birth.
Feel like sharing her name ? (don't have to )

On you being on your own next week : What about getting a postnatal doula for a week.... if you were in my neck of the woods, I'd do it ! You don't need to hire them for weeks or 8 hours a day... they can be very flexible !

Look here first (independent doulas- no agency fee!)
www.doula.org.uk - click on "find a doula"

or go to a nanny agency, they have some on their books !

If you need more help with this, contact me off line your SIL knows my e-mail address.
