Er...I woke up at 2am on Saturday morning thinking I might be in labour, got to the hospital at 3.30am and baby Alice was born at 4.15am with no drugs and lots of screaming and shouting (from me). I was very naughty and didn't listen to the midwife and pant - four big pushes and she was out, I had a small but messy tear that they spent ages stitching up. It was all fast and furious but such a lovely birth compared to dd1's transverse op horror. They discharged me at 11am later that morning so we were back home for lunch.

Needless to say she's completely gorgeous and I am besotted. She weighed 8.1 and looks like an eskimo baby, lots of black hair, dark blue slanty eyes and lovely big red cheeks.

She cried constantly for the first night, constantly wanting to feed and then chewing her hands so I gave her 3oz of formula and since then she's been an angel. My milk has just started to come in and she seems fine on that now.

Dd1 is being very difficult and naughty bless her, she's really feeling it. Dreading next week when I'll have no help around the house AND its nursery half term - doh!

Congratulations, Enid, and sympathies re half-term, isn't there anyone who could help you out a bit for some of the time?

Another lovely Alice - well done! (My dd2 looked like Chairman Mao...)

Congratulations Enid, that's remarkably quick. Hello to baby Alice, enjoy!

Copper · 21/10/2002 14:01

Congratulations - she sounds lovely. Little eskimo indeed - surprised you didn't call her Nell!
If you are really worried about dd1's reaction, maybe it's worth downplaying natural pride and joy in Alice while dd is around, and make looking after the baby seem something which is a bit of a nuisance but has to be done 'because she's too little to do it herself' - amused and slightly bored superiority is a lot more comforting for dd1 to feel than the real old green-eyed monster stuff. We did this, and reserved the unlimited cooing for when dd1 was asleep or out. Seemed to work ...

Lizzer · 21/10/2002 14:01

Congratulations Enid and family

Joe1 · 21/10/2002 14:22

Hurray. Well done and hello Alice. I screamed and shouted loads too, seemed to help more than breathing. Hope you are not sore for long.

I today have had screaming in stereo but believe me it is easier than you think when you are on your own and the men have gone to work Although I missed dh being around ds is much better behaved when he is at work. You will be fine, at least you can mooch around in your dressing and not get out to nursery.

bundle · 21/10/2002 14:24

Many congratulations Enid!!!

PamT · 21/10/2002 15:10

Well done Enid, I'm sure DD1 will settle down eventually, perhaps you can give her some special 'big sister jobs' to do to make her feel important.

tigermoth · 21/10/2002 15:16

Congratulations, Enid. No need to be induced after all, then.

I adore seeing little babies with lots of black hair - my sons didn't oblige in that department.

thumper · 21/10/2002 15:27

Congratulations Enid. Gosh, I feel relieved to hear the news about baby Alice so goodness knows what you think! Well done

Love to you and your family, and perhaps a special hug to dd1?

Rosy · 21/10/2002 15:29
