Can I have a show of hands if your baby was posterior yet you still went into labour before induction?

Pregnant with number 3 and this baby, like the last 2 has turned posterior.

My other babies were very late and induced eventually and I cant help but make the connection in my head that posterior = late due to not enough pressure from babies head on cervix etc

I would be really interested to hear about people who had babies in posterior positions yet still went into labour on their own/on time!

Thanking you~!

DD was posterior - but they didn't realise until the surgeon opened me up and she was staring up at him ! Can't believe they hadn't realised earlier!
Contractions started morning after due date - took 2 days to get to 6cm and be allowed on the labour ward - got stuck at 9cm so at the end of day 3 had an emergency C-section.

DingALongCow · 02/12/2007 11:45

DD was OP and I went into labour at 41 weeks (my due date according to my dates).

I kept active and went for lots of walks (I did some shopping and terrified shop assistants!) and she was born 23 hours after my first contraction. The showerhead directed at my back, birth ball and the TENS machine helped with the pains in my back and I managed to cope at home for most of the labour, spent only five hours on the labour ward.

FrannyandZooey · 02/12/2007 11:46

yes, after a sweep I did

I am convinced he was not really ready to come because of crappy positioning

they didn't know he was OP until his head finally appeared after a long struggle with the forceps etc

PeckaRolloverAgain · 02/12/2007 11:51

Thanks for input everyone I will be 37 weeks this week, new DD is due on Boxing Day!! I am just hoping she arrives in 2007!!!

This is all SO encouraging! Thank you. I always feel a bit daft, as a doula I should know better. But when it comes to you and your own personal insecurities everything else I know just flies out of the window.

Im going to concentrate on thinking positively that everything will be just fine as I do believe that that has some sort of impact too.

mine came 1 day after due date and labour started 1 day before due date
long long labour but natural birth in the end

LadyMcArgue · 02/12/2007 11:55

hand up...but ended up with section...

Peachy · 02/12/2007 12:12

Yep, week early, long and ddrawn out (44 hours) but incredibly gentle and ahd massage / aromatherapy which was fantastic (NHS unit too!)

dizietsma · 02/12/2007 13:31

Posterior DD, gave birth two days after labour started exactly at term.

ivykaty44 · 02/12/2007 13:44

My first was a brow presentation and I went all through to 10cm and then had an emergancy section at the end. My 2nd dd was therefore a vbac and posterior I went into labour 5 days early on my own and first noticed labout at 3.40am got to the hosptial about 4.45am and was 6 cm - had dd at 9.27am used gas and air

DontCallMeSantaBaby · 02/12/2007 14:00

DD was posterior, although no one realised until I was well into labour, six days after due date, not induced.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 02/12/2007 14:07

dd was OP and she came three days early as did ds who wasn't posterior.

Madlentileater · 02/12/2007 14:37

DS1- went into spontaneous labour 2 days before EDD- long slow labour, hospital accelerated me (would refuse this now as no reason other than it was 'slow) consequently wired up which made mobility difficult, delivered on my side ( very odd- felt this was not a good idea but not sufficiently assertive!), better story with DS4, also posterior, spontaneous onset of labour, laboured at home, long slow labour, normal delivery (on just such an afternoon as this, as it happens) kneeling, no pain relief. Difference was, i was at home, much more confident, relaxed, not fasting, MWs calm and confident.

dejags · 02/12/2007 14:40

All 3 OP and all three early.

DS1: OP born at 38+2
DS2: OP born at 38
DD: Breech, turned at 35+4 to OP born at 36+2

There is hope yet :-)

SantaKLAWs · 02/12/2007 14:44

ds was posterior and arrived 3 days early (did have greenstick fracture of wrist the week before so not sure if that shocked me into it!)

Interventions caused him great difficulty in turning and was a brow presentation. Did get to 10cms before emCS.

Dd was 42+1 scan or 40+6 lmp, and I did LOADS of OFP to reduce posterior liklihood! She wasn't fully OA at start but by the time they prepped me with Spinal she was OA and I was fully dilated to forceps aided my pushing.

If I'm fortunate to have a next time I'm, staying at home, so they can't cut me again!!!!

Looking forward to following your Festive birth story!!!

Kerri28 · 04/12/2007 21:29

me, me, me!! my baby was posterior from about week 33 and fully engaged. waters broke all on their own 2 days before due date. sadly 18 hours laer had to have emergency c-section as she didn't turn at al and no chance of her "fitting"

good luck, i'm sure number 3 will comply!

PuppyDogTails · 04/12/2007 21:31

Me, born at 40+2, very quick. God knows how he managed to find the time to turn.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 05/12/2007 10:00

Me - went into labour the day before my due date.

quokka · 05/12/2007 10:08

first ds was posterior and he was 3 days over with no intervention. Ds2 was 10 days late NOT posterior - again no intervention.

suedonim · 05/12/2007 10:39

Babies 1&4 were both OP. Both times went into labour naturally, at 40wk+3 and 39+6.

Babies 2&3 were OA, both induced at 41wk+4 and 41wks.

Make of that what you will!

wb · 06/12/2007 09:58

Ds1 was posterior, I went into labour naturally 3 days before due date. The being posterior did make dilation/labour very long but didn't affect it starting iyswim.

WaynettALotOfMincePies · 06/12/2007 10:09

Me - DS1 was posterior (although the didn't know till I went in to labour). He was born 13 days late, the day before my induction was scheduled!

BJB21 · 06/12/2007 20:56

bOth my labours baby posterior
Ds1 spontaneous labour at 39wks(was meant for iol for raised bp but did it on my own)

Ds2(10wks ago)again, spontaneous at 39wks was plannned iol for small for dates, but i went into labour myself!

i think i may as well expect number 3 to be posterior again, oh God!

Spidermama · 06/12/2007 20:59

Yes DS4 came down and out OP and I went into labour with him five days before my due date.

He took about five hours btw and I lay forward during labour to slow him down because he was a bit of a squeeze.

Tough but mercifully short.

Good luck. Take your time. (Easy to say I know. )

RudolphtheBluenosesaintdeer · 06/12/2007 21:00

DD1 was posterior and came 12 days late after induction

DD3 was posterior and came 8 days late after a stretch and sweep ...only 4 hours labour though

orangehead · 06/12/2007 21:05

I dont think thier a connection. Both of mine posterior and ds1 was born on his due date and ds2 was a week early. But labours long and horrible. Apparently slouching in the chair is the worst thing to do, it encourages them to turn into posterior position. Sitting up straight encourages them to turn back to the right position. Apparently so does going on all fours wiggling bum in the air, lol like you feel like that when heaviley preg
