Upset about being induced tomorrow

I'm being induced tomorrow and I am just gutted. I'm being a wuss, I'm just sad that I could be stuck in hospital for days - I just need to think about the end goal and meeting baby, but I can't snap out of being negative. I guess Covid rules makes it worse as I have to go alone and partner can only come for a couple hours a day to visit and during active labour. They said I needed induction due to slightly more fluid round baby and baby measuring big which has risks. I know so many people go through it, I feel like I need to man up! I've had such a perfect pregnancy I guess I just didn't expect this and haven't had much time to mentally prepare. Not sure what I want from this post but just wanted to write something!

Good luck! I had the drip with no epidural and it was no different then a non induced labour for me. I just had gas and air which is absolutely amazing!!

Hopefully by this time tomorrow you’ll have your baby in your arms xx

So gutting!! Thanks for the heads up about the monitoring, I think I'd find that upsetting too compared to all of my hypnobirthing/ball bouncing fantasies. The rods sound ouch, I think my hospital uses some kind of hormone pessary type thing but guess it does the same job. Have you had any twinges yet or any sense that things are starting to happen? What's the ward like?

R1cciteddy · 06/08/2021 20:39

Thanks @Bennetgirl I hope so too Smile

@ConstantlyIrksome yep I think it's a similar thing. The one I've had doesn't cause any contractions although I can feel a bit of period pain which hopefully means something's happening! Ward is fine, 4 people in my bit but I'm just being antisocial with the curtains closed! Staff have been really good too so feeling in safe hands. Do you have a date set for your induction?

Period pains must be a good sign that something is happening!! Are you having to be constantly monitored or do they let you walk around? No date for induction yet but seeing the consultant on Monday so I'm sure they will give me one then, although they did say there's no evidence to suggest induction is better than waiting to go naturally before 41 weeks so hard to know what to do? How big is your baby predicated to be if you don't mind me asking? From the growth chart mine is predicted to be 4.8kgs by 42 weeks. Not sure I fancy pushing that out!

R1cciteddy · 07/08/2021 00:24

@ConstantlyIrksome No, no constant monitoring... just checked me a few times. Now I look forward to being monitored so I know baby is okay! I'm free to walk around / move around.

I don't have my notes with me... but from memory baby was around 8lb at 39 weeks. Which I don't think is that bad, but I think it's that with the mix of polyhydramnios for recommending induction. They were also concerned about shoulder dystocia

So update, the Dilapan worked, hurrah. So as soon as a delivery room is available they will pop my waters. Ive read that with Polyhydramnios it's like a tsunami!

Good luck, how exciting!

grey12 · 07/08/2021 03:37

Personal experience: avoid pessary/tape/wtv.... breaking waters is easier. There is a balloon thing that they inflate to start labour maybe you can ask about that.

Good luck!!!

stopknockingonmydoor · 07/08/2021 03:54

Good luck GrinThanks

MotherCanDoIt · 07/08/2021 04:45

After being induced they broke my water and delivered within five hours, good luck!

Eileen101 · 07/08/2021 04:54

Good luck op! Love a birth thread!

ConstantlyIrksome · 07/08/2021 08:38

So exciting!! Glad things are starting to move, hoping the silence means you are fully in labour or even cuddling your little one already!

Congratulations 🎉 I hope it all went well xx

R1cciteddy · 12/08/2021 17:26

Thought I'd update! So all worked in the end, but breaking waters didn't start contractions (often the case for first babies) so ended up on the drip... I think I was on it for 14 hours. I've heard the drip brings contractions hard and fast so asked for it pretty sharpish although there was a delay in getting it to me which I found tough. The epidural was amazing!

I wasn't far off having c section but thankfully after some time the drip worked.

I basically laboured half asleep and felt nothing then pushed for hardly time at all.. felt zero pain! The baby got a bit distressed so they had to use suction to get her out quick (almost foreceps)

But baby arrived nice and healthy. We have named her Sophie Cleo

I wouldn't personally recommend induction unless it's a must.... which it was with me for the safety of the baby. And It was worth it in the end!

Have been waiting for your update, congratulations! Well done on all that labouring on the drip, I just about managed to avoid it but was planning on epidural first too. I have also literally just given birth following induction on Wednesday, would agree not an experience I'd recommend but she came out 4.5kg at 40+6 so I guess those scans were right...

mrssunshinexxx · 13/08/2021 08:37

You bossed it @R1cciteddy congratulations
