Night dresses for BF and post C Section

3rd baby but 1st CSection.....Could I get away with loose pyjamas? Or is that a ridiculous suggestion considering I will have had major abdo surgery?

I hate night dresses and will only use them if I have to. I'd much rather sleep /lie awake all night with a newborn naked but I'm sure the other patients recovering around me would rather not be subjected to that!!

I can only find light coloured night dresses online for around £15 each. Ideally wanted something dark in colour.

Any suggestions?
Thankyou

Oo thanks, I hadn't considered next for myself. Only the children!

I'm due my 3rd c-section soon. I've always just worn maternity/nursing pyjamas, or loose jammies in a big size. I have about a hundred pairs as I basically wore them all the time at home unless I was going somewhere!

This time round I got a maternity nightie from George at Asda. It's not particularly dark coloured but it's so comfy and loose and has a nursing part at the chest.

I think from memory (it's hazy!) I wore massive black pants and a loose t-shirt or feeding vest in the bed on the night immediately after the section. You'll have a catheter in so it needs to be able to poke out of the pants. It was also absolutely boiling on the ward!

Good luck Flowers

Happy mama on Amazon has a good selection

CanIHaveAHolidayPlease · 04/08/2021 18:34

Thankyou, I think I will opt for massive pyjamas as you suggest. Flowers

Try to get ones with a soft waistband so it doesn't dig in. Your tummy/bikini will be very tender for a while afterwards.

I've actually never worn tight clothes again since my first section 5 years ago! They just feel 'wrong' now. Stretchy soft waistbands for the win Grin

That have dark coloured nighties and nursing pjs in the Debenhams sale atm, I think they are boohoo ones.

Drives me mad that one half of the population gets all the pjs in black/navy/red and the other half of the population bleeds every month and gives birth Hmm

HalloHello · 04/08/2021 18:40

Remember your wound will be low down at your knicker line so as long as your pants and PJ trousers are high waisted, it shouldn't be too bad.

I never bothered with nursing PJs last time, just lifted my top and whipped out a boob. Buttons are a faff while you're learning to feed a new baby. I also always had my curtains round my bed in the hospital so had plenty privacy.

I had my catheter in over night (they're usually taken out on the first day though) so couldn't have worn pj bottoms. I hate nighties too!

BastardMonkfish · 04/08/2021 19:24

You'll need a nighty for straight after the section because you'll have a catheter in and nurses will probably check your pad to see what's happening with the bleeding, after the first day/night though pjs should be fine (although I preferred nighties)

Amichelle84 · 04/08/2021 19:38

I wore pjs rather than a nightie with big massive granny pants underneath.

Your scar will be low down just above pubic line so just consider that when you try pjs on.

LongDissidence · 04/08/2021 19:47

Well THAT'S a huge link!

Greenmarmalade · 04/08/2021 19:47

I wore PJs and it’s fine, just adjust the waistband position. Get high waisted pants!

LongDissidence · 04/08/2021 19:48

And yes to huge knickers.

(And be prepared for the fact that you might never actually go back to small pants again, because honestly they're so comfy...!)

Tibtab · 04/08/2021 19:50

I use JoJo maternity pyjamas, they also have an access at the front for breastfeeding and the trousers are super high waisted and soft.

MorgenMuffel · 04/08/2021 19:58

If you don't mind second hand I got some black maternity / nursing nighties from ebay, some with poppers and some with clips on the straps. Perfect for hospital but reverted to pjs when I was home.

Oh gosh, don't tell me that, I live in skinny jeans haha

You have a very valid point there!!

Thanks for all the replies Flowers

I think I'll just try and make do with one nighty and some massive pj's 😀

I wore maternity pyjamas after mine. They came up really high and didn't irritate my wound.

MonkeyPuddle · 04/08/2021 21:26

I’ve just bought some pj’s in Asda that would be perfect post section, high waisted, loose and more than enough space for a maternity pad or two, size up.
After both my sections I wore a nightie and just hoiked it up to breastfeed but find something you feel comfy in, it’s important x

daisyducky · 04/08/2021 21:30

Yep maternity pjs. Mine were from next and I still wear them 18 months later!

I was only in hospital one night and wore a hospital gown whilst the catheter was still in and then maternity pjs after. A large nightshirt would also do - primark do them.

And yes to the c section pants! More supportive than normal pants but less than spanx. I wore them for a month after the birth and had no issues with my scar or healing. I was back on my feet v quickly

Best of luck

GinMama1 · 04/08/2021 21:37

The first couple of nights after my sections I wore big button up night shirts from primark (with disposable pants). It was easier than pjs but good boob access. Doesn't need to be a proper nightie. But good for easy access etc. Then pjs were fine - but size up.

Chanel05 · 05/08/2021 09:09

I didn't wear anything over that area for a good 4/5 days after my section. Primark do some loose night dresses that I bought a few sizes bigger.
