Pads or side fastening adult nappies for after c-section?

Due to have my section in a couple of weeks. I was reading Millie McIntosh’s Instagram post about her c-section and in the comments it was mentioned that you should take side fastening adult nappies instead of pads because it hurts so much to pull your pants up. I’m actually struggling getting in and out of pants/trousers etc at the minute so I can see how that would hurt.

Are these better or were pants and pads okay? Thought I had everything but keep seeing last minute things!

Pants and pads were fine for me, just buy high waisted ones so they don’t catch on yout stitches, I’d certainly not have worn nappies.

SmallGreenStripes · 20/07/2021 12:46

Pants and pads were fine for me.

Poochnewbie1 · 20/07/2021 12:47

Pads and pants were fine for me too. Just be aware of where they sit against your scar so buy high waisted.

Zarene · 20/07/2021 12:48

Pants are totally fine!

People do love to catastrophise about c sections. No doubt some women do have it tough, but others are totally fine and have no need to abysmal sounding nappies!

Wigglegiggle0520 · 20/07/2021 12:48

Huge pants and boots maternity pads were fine for me too.

You can also get c section support belts which would probably be a better investment than nappies.

Pants and pads for both of my c-section.

Not going to lie after my first one I felt awful, the second one was fine, needed pain relief still so make sure you have plenty of pain relief for when you get home as around day 2/3 it really hits you!

But try not to read stories about how bad it is etc, everyone is different, for example my friend only need paracetamol afterwards whereas I needed codine for about 2 weeks.

Overall I found an elective c-section enjoyable and would recommend to anyone considering it, good luck!

Thanks everyone! I’ll just stick with the high waisted pants and pads I have then! I will think of this post though if I’m in a hospital bathroom crying trying to get my pants up 😂

Pads and pants were fine. Defo high waisted.
Best advice I got given from the midwife was just to get up and move.
As it happens DS was prem and I had to get up to go and see him and yes it was painful but also worked even though it sounds counter intuitive. Also Painkillers are your friend.

ComDummings · 20/07/2021 12:58

Yes to high waisted pants (up to your waist is best!) and pads. I was fine with normal sanitary towels afterwards, you sort of learn to get down straight to go to the toilet if that makes sense Grin it is OK honestly!

It will be hard for the first few days but moving around really does help recovery, best of luck SmileFlowers squishy newborn cuddles for you very soon 😍

Couldn't agree more.
Ozanj · 20/07/2021 13:01

You can get disposable high waisted c-section pants made from a kind of papery material. So once they’re on with the pad on you can then just tear them off.

SinkGirl · 20/07/2021 13:05

I just used my usual Always Infinity night time pads after the first day - maternity pads were huge and uncomfortable and were less absorbent, caused chafing etc. Had no problem using pads though.

Bitofachinwag · 20/07/2021 13:06

Pads, don't think nappies would help with the scar healing process. You need to keep the scar area dry.

randomsabreuse · 20/07/2021 13:07

Yeah Maternity Pads are more useful for vaginal birth as the padding is welcome!

AnoymousCoward · 20/07/2021 13:19

Wow- imagine catching the sticky pads on a nappy on your wound?
[shudder]

Bluntness100 · 20/07/2021 13:22

Op you’ll not be on the loo crying trying to get them up, it’s totally fine. I was cut hip bone to hip bone, so basically double the usual scar and I had put a shit ton of weight, there was no issue.

Honestly you don’t need nappies or anything like that. Just get some high waisted big pants, it’s fine.

Wineat5isfine · 20/07/2021 13:31

Huge granny pants and big pads!

I put a couple of drops of tea tree and lavender oil in my bath post CS as well.

Good luck with your CS 💐

LakeShoreD · 20/07/2021 13:32

I’ve had 2 sections. Pulling your underwear up doesn’t hurt and more or less than anything else, I’m a bit baffled by that. Just don’t take hipster briefs as they’ll sit on the scar, anything high waisted will be fine and I’d probably stick to cotton to allow the wound to breathe. I found I only had very light bleeding after both of mine, I think they give everything a good hoover out, so I was fine with Always ultra sanitary towels but I’d probably take a pack of maternity pads with you just in case you do have heavier bleeding. You definitely won’t need adult diapers though!

tubbycustardtummyache · 20/07/2021 13:38

Always ultra night and high waisted briefs here. I bled a lot less than with my vaginal delivery
No way would I have wanted to wear a nappy on the school run. The advice about getting back to normal as much as possible is good. Obviously everyone is different in terms of blood loss but mine was less than a normal period. Fingers crossed you have an easy recovery!

ReallyRatherBlonde · 20/07/2021 13:47

Enormous high waisted pants (don't underestimate how big - I thought I'd gotten big enough but rang my husband sobbing telling him to buy more and to not spare my feelings, to literally get the biggest ones in the shop). Tbh everything's uncomfortable, pulling up pants is no worse than most other bits, provided they don't sit anywhere near your scar.

ancientgran · 20/07/2021 14:03

Thinking about it I didn't buy special big pants, just wore my usual ones. My husband, thinks he's a comedian, made me laugh and in my pain and panic instead of stopping I got into a sort of hysterical laughter and couldn't stop. I burst my stitches but still managed perfectly well with normal pants.

My husband got thrown out which served him right.

ShipshapeShore · 20/07/2021 14:08

Enormous pants, definitely. I too underestimated and my Mum had to do a dash to BHS for some "full knickers" two sizes up from my usual size. Yes they might look alarming but it's only temporary Smile

sarah13xx · 20/07/2021 14:11

@Bluntness100 it sounds like it will (hopefully) be much better than I’m expecting then! Just preparing myself for the worst 😂

@ReallyRatherBlonde I’ve gone two sizes bigger than usual, hopefully that’s enough 🙈 if not he’ll be getting sent for bigger ones!

@tubbycustardtummyache that’s great! I was imagining extremely heavy bleeding for a good week or two. Was almost thinking I’d need the nappies to be able to sit with visitors without panicking I was leaking through 🙈 but clearly most people’s experiences seem to be a lot less than that! I’ll hopefully be pleasantly surprised 😅

Also you won’t bleed that badly after a section compared to a vag birth.
