C-section how many days were you in hospital

I’m considering pushing for a c section due to episodes of arrhythmia and the fact I am already anxious about child birth. How long were you kept in hospital after the delivery?

2 nights, but that was because I had pre eclampsia, otherwise it would have been one.

Passionfruitpizza · 07/04/2021 10:47

24 hours post semi planned c section (transferred to hospital to have one but was in labour). It was during lockdown so they were happy to help me get out of there ASAP.

Babyontheway21 · 07/04/2021 10:53

Oh that’s quicker than I thought, I had read 5 days and I couldn’t think of anything worse... sometimes you just need your own bed.

Had baby at 3pm on a Thursday and came home 11am on Saturday. If I’d had him earlier in the day I could have come home after a night I reckon and I found recovery easier at home anyway

FlyNow · 07/04/2021 11:36

2 nights for me as well, which felt about right. I'm sure I could have even left after one if I had been keen.

They have absolutely no interest in making you staying 5 days. Like all wards they want to discharge you as soon as possible to free up the bed.

Babyontheway21 · 07/04/2021 11:39

That’s good to hear, how was the recovery, when did you feel half normal again?

Had the baby around midnight on the Tuesday, and was home by lunchtime on the Thursday, would have been sooner but they lost some test results so they had to be repeated. I was up and about after 7/8 hours and felt OK to drive after a week, though I left it until 2 weeks after surgery and checked with my insurance company first.

LeroyJenkinssss · 07/04/2021 11:57

Had c-section mid morning, out the following afternoon and that was only because they pissed around for ages about my medication. I was adamant that I was going though, they were advising I stay another day.

LeroyJenkinssss · 07/04/2021 11:58

It’s difficult to accurately tell how quickly i felt better tbh as it was just so much better than the first time round (vaginal delivery) that I was fairly giddy with excitement!

frommywindow · 07/04/2021 12:01

I had my twins on the Monday morning, was home Wednesday evening. Would have been Tuesday but one of the twins needed a scan and blood tests and they couldnt happen on a Tues. Our trust were keen to discharge asap, especially as no visitors were allowed on postnatal ward!

Thebookswereherfriends · 07/04/2021 12:05

I had an emergency c-section, so slightly different. I was in for 6 days as my baby wasn’t feeding very well and they wanted to make sure she was putting in weight before they would release us.

HungryHippo20 · 07/04/2021 12:05

I was only in one night. Now baby almost 6 weeks and I am starting to feel human! I underestimated the recovery to be honest, I just thought about the baby at the end. Didn't realise I would struggle so much with most basic things for so long

FtmNov22 · 07/04/2021 12:06

I was induced on the Monday, which then led to emergency csection on the Tuesday, came home Sunday evening. My son was only 4.5lbs and was unable to control his body temperature so we were kept in until he was able to continuously.

Kimye4eva · 07/04/2021 12:08

I don’t know anyone who was in 5 days in the UK unless there were complications for either Mum or baby.

2 nights with DC1 (born late afternoon after long and difficult labour)
1 night with DC2 (born early morning, planned and no complications).

FtmNov22 · 07/04/2021 12:10

I'm now 5mpp and still don't feel the same as I used to. I still get pain from the scar and I'm defently weaker in strength. The first few weeks I struggled to walk up stairs, get in and out of the car, had to have help getting in the bath, needed 24/7 help for the first month with daily things

24 hours

I just stayed in the one night. DD born early morning and by lunchtime once the spinal had worn off I forced myself to get out of bed and try and walk with the help of a nurse. I was told the first walk and standing up straight would be painful/uncomfortable but I really forced myself to do it as I was desperate to get home. DD born in first lockdown so no visitors and like pp have said I think the hospital were happy to try and discharge people as quickly as possible. I asked the next day if I could go home and was discharged a couple of hours later.

SecretCiderCellar · 07/04/2021 12:14

Had DS mid-morning on Tuesday by ELCS, left hospital first thing on Thursday morning. I did consider discharging myself the previous day, though.

Recovery was straightforward enough, but DH was working away, all family and friends in another country, our flat up two flights of stairs, and I needed to be able to do everything myself.

It took a while to be able to step over the side of the bath to shower, and getting up off a low bed or chair was pretty painful. But manageable.

Aimee1987 · 07/04/2021 12:20

I was in for a week but that was because baby was in niqu and they decided to keep us both together in a transmission ward. They were ready to discharge me after a night.

TH22 · 07/04/2021 12:23

24hrs for me. Back to normal two weeks later.

Yummymummy2020 · 07/04/2021 12:23

Just to say, have you met an Anesthetist yet? I have an arrhythmia and In my case an early epidural was recommended as pain can set them off. Have you spoken to your cardiologist about it yet? I was a bit of a messy case as I had pre eclampsia too so really they weren’t keen on sectioning me if it could be helped, although due again now in may and am hoping to dodge a section this time too. Of course it all depends on how well controlled your arrhythmia is and if it’s one of the especially dangerous ones. Mine although unpleasant isn’t from the ventricles thankfully so the advice I was given might be different to you. I had to change medications during the pregnancy a lot but generally was well controlled!

maryberryslayers · 07/04/2021 12:29

Had baby via planned section 2 weeks ago at 10 am Monday and was discharged by 12:30 Tuesday. Amazing experience and lighting fast recovery.

Babyontheway21 · 07/04/2021 12:33

I don’t have medication for it, it flares up from time to time and they had said when I become pregnant it could cause an issue however they aren’t too concerned about it but I’ve got to speak to my cardiologist in a couple of weeks to discuss it.

So if I do get a section the idea is to get up out of bed as quickly as possible and show I am able to get home.
