Induction

Went for a growth scan today and baby has dropped massively off the growth chart compared to where she was. They've now suggested an induction at 37+3 (currently 36) and i just couldn't stop crying. Is this normal? I feel awful and really didn't want to be induced, especially early! Can i have some positive induction stories please? Or anything.. words of wisdom!?!

That must have been a shock for you but it is the best course of action when growth has slowed once it's been confirmed by scan. My advice would be to prepare psychologically for a c section as there will be a low threshold to revert to this option. I'm sure you've been told but it's really important to keep a close eye on movements over the next few days. Good luck.

Absolute massive shock and i think that's why i can't stop crying.. feel like i've doing something wrong! I've gone ahead and booked the induction but i am absolutely dreading the thought of a c-section. It's all a bit shit really isn't it. DD1 birth was so nice easy and natural, i feel like my body has let me down.

Better out than in although I can imagine it must feel disappointing - depending on babies weight when born you'll probably still avoid SCBU/NICU x

slidingdrawers · 23/12/2020 14:54

You've done nothing wrong. It happens. As it's not your first and you've had a vaginal birth previously the induction may well work quite quickly but it's always best to prepare for a section as they won't want to take any chances.

I had an induction due to slow growth he was my 3rd and he came out a healthy 8lb. Didnt need a section and only needed the pessary to get going. It'll all work out in the long run. You'll do well.

I was induced at 37+4 for the same reason. My waters were broken after 2 pessarys got me to 3cm with no regular pains. She was born 2 hours later 5lb 3oz! Good luck.

I felt like that when I realised I was going to have to have a C-section for breech DC2 - it does take a while to get used to the change of plans so don't feel had about how you are reacting. I had an induction for DC3 because he was late and found it much easier than my natural labour for DC1. Good luck!

I was induced last week at 38+1 for similar reasons- I had the pessary, and went on the oxytocin drip the next day, gave birth about 4 hours later. They were ready to do a c-section if necessary, but in the end I was able to deliver without. Baby was 5lbs 13oz, which was bigger than they had thought from the scan, and perfectly healthy! Her heart rate was dropping toward the end of labour, but she came out fairly quickly in the end, so they didn't intervene. We've both recovered really well, and my little lady is happy at home - I've had to bring her for additional weigh-ins at the hospital since being discharged, but overall it was a really quick delivery, and she is doing well which is the main thing!

Good luck! Hope it’s as smoothly as mine. Pessary in at 11am mild period pains 6pm paracetamol at 11am waters went spontaneously at 1am 3cm dilated at 2am diamorphine 3am 6cm dilated baby born 6.30am.

Hope all goes smoothly. Try to keep as hydrated and relaxed (ha!) as possible. Pack snacks!!!

slidingdrawers · 02/01/2021 17:07

I hope all goes well.

PurpleBettina · 02/01/2021 17:43

FanSpamTastic · 02/01/2021 21:19

Bless you - wishing you all the very best. I was induced with my third - he was well overdue and showed no signs of being ready to move! But it took a long time to get going - 6 hours from the first pessary. I walked for miles around the hospital hoping gravity might get things moving. I thought it would never start. I was fully expecting to need the works and possibly a c-section. Then all of a sudden it kicked in.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter how they get here. There are no medals for performance. The only prize is the one in your arms.

strawberriesunited · 03/01/2021 04:44

The ward was full so i've only just had the pessary put in! Thanks everyone for the good lucks!

Well, no good news yet i'm afraid! Labour ward is completely packed so they had to take the pessary back out about 3:30 pm, stopped contracting and sat here waiting for it to empty out again before they'll do anything. I'm tired, missing my daughter and need a cryGrin

strawberriesunited · 04/01/2021 01:10

Just put the pessary back in and given me a sweep.. ouch!

strawberriesunited · 04/01/2021 14:02

Unfortunately not, being moved around to labour ward shortly to pop waters and hope that gets things moving😩

Best of luck OP. I was induced before Christmas, not the nicest experience but hopefully you’ll have your baby soon Smile

strawberriesunited · 05/01/2021 01:55

Still waiting, i'm absolutely pissed off beyond belief at how much i'm being ignored and messed around. Want to go home so badly
