Vaginal birth, huge haemorrhoid!

badg3r · 12/09/2020 13:22

Due to give birth in the next few weeks. Previous babies were vaginal deliveries and straightforward so expecting the same this time. BUT. I have a huge haemorrhoid. Has anyone had a vaginal birth with a huge haemorrhoid? Any tips? Was it mega painful ( the bum part, I have realistic expectations of the rest of my undercarriage!)?

I had hemorrhoids as a result of my first vaginal birth. Now I'm 38 weeks pregnant with third baby, and have hemorrhoids at the moment. I got a prescription for an ointment and trying to resolve the issue before I go into labour 🤞 could you try and sort it out before you give birth?

JessicaPeach · 12/09/2020 20:19

Yes I did and they were much worse after delivery too. It won't have an impact on your ability to labour and it didn't have an impact on my stitches either as far as I know (3b tear)

badg3r · 12/09/2020 21:40

@Lilice i am pretty much exactly the same position as you, been using Anusol which seems to be helping a bit but I know the bigger will still be there a bit when baby comes out. @JessicaPeach was it sore while giving birth? I am fully anticipating them being terrible after baby is here, but will deal with that when the time comes...

Probably not what you want to hear but I had a large hemmoriod that pops in and out when I use the loo (sorry for the TMI) and yes, pushing my boy out caused it to become much larger and more painful. I asked the GP for some cream and vagisil is a lifesaver (it's lidocaine and safe to use there) - the doctors will prescribe 2% lidocaine for anal fissures so Vagisil is only just lower than that, works very well. Use sparingly along with abusol until you can get a hemmoriod cream from the GP after birth. Wet toilet wipes and warm baths as much as possible and it passes. Combine ibruprofen and paracetamol which helps with both areas - breastfeeding was my saviour, once he latched on my pain dramatically eased. I promise it gets better and I was walking the dog 2 days after birth. Riding the horse 6 weeks and that was because of stitches. Solidarity here, mine was like a bunch of grapes 😭

badg3r · 12/09/2020 22:24

@LuckiestB that is really useful to know thanks a lot! I can unfortunately relate to the popping in and out when going to the loo bit...! Interesting too that breastfeeding helped. Do you know why?

So, I don't know if it was concentrating on something else or the rush of endorphins but if I was really struggling with pain, and my husband was holding him, I'd literally crave him and once he latched I felt so much better. Pain was still there but I wasn't struggling with it if that makes sense?
I know I should go and start the ball rolling to get this thing removed but it's so embarrassing and y'know, COVID. Haha.
Good luck, worth mentioning to your midwife or labour team because they can help to try and minimise stress on your sphincter (sp?)
My boy was out in 34 minutes and I didn't have time to mention it, she said afterwards (doctor) she would have tried to hold it in or place a compress there if she'd known.

JessicaPeach · 14/09/2020 20:28

No you won't feel it while you are actually giving birth, it makes no odds. I agree with the vagisil recommendation, it really helped me last time. Also I find suppositories are much more effective than cream.

This is a bit late but hopefully you'll still see it.
I would 100% see GP or midwife before birth to see if you can reduce it. I had really bad multiple ones before birth and after birth they were absolutely dreadful.
I had two second degree tears and I couldn't feel the pain of them for the pain of my piles! I couldn't sit or walk and ended up asking a midwife to have a look whilst I had baby in the postnatal ward for a jaundice test. She examined me and said 'oh love, no wonder you're in pain'. I had a telephone appointment with my GP and was prescribed some cream that also has numbing in and I was an absolute bloody life saver!

My advice, based on very painful experience, is to get it lanced. Or psych yourself up for lancing now, because you may well need to have that done before you leave the hospital.

I developed a thrombosed hemorrhoid after delivering DC2, and it was quite possibly the most painful experience of my life. I had to get it lanced.

Hi everyone - I'm due to go for an induction tomorrow and just last night a HUGE haemmaroid has appeared out of nowhere. I can't believe I've avoided it the entire pregnancy and now it appears a day before I could go into labour so I don't even have time to treat it before the birth! I'm in agony when I stand up, sit down, walk, go for a wee, you name it. I can't get a gp appointment until Monday so DH has popped out to get me some Anusol and stool softener. I am drinking water but can't eat any fruit or cereals because I have gestational diabetes too. Need advice on 3 things:

  • I haven't had a bowel moment yet today (sorry if tmi) but how am I going to cope when I go??
  • Is it a bad idea to take stool softener now before labour? Worried I will poop everywhere during labour then!
  • How on earth am I going to cope during labour and push a baby out when I can't even go to the bathroom??

Please help. Was up until 2am this morning in tears. Thanks in advance. X

Daffodil87 · 19/03/2021 14:21

Bump

mrssunshinexxx · 19/03/2021 15:00

Tell the midwifes when you are admitted I am sure they will have something to help @Daffodil87 x

Daffodil87 · 19/03/2021 16:25

Thanks @mrssunshinexxx, I really hope so. I guess at least I only have 1 day or so of this. Just gutted that it's so close to labour

mrssunshinexxx · 19/03/2021 17:28

Mine was horrific and thrombosed when I was due it started 6 weeks before my due date I honestly asked my midwife if my arse was going to fall out!! Ended up with a c section but I was nervous bout pushing I am pregnant aagain and piles still there (joyful) but not painful,,yet.. I've read to have a compress pushed in that area anyway to prevent tearing so maybe ask for that xx

mrssunshinexxx · 19/03/2021 17:29

@Daffodil87

Daffodil87 · 19/03/2021 17:58

Oh god, hope you're stay painless for this pregnancy at least! I'm actually seriously considering turning up tomorrow and asking to switch to a c section. They will think I'm mad and refuse though given I'd be asking at the eleventh hour!

mrssunshinexxx · 20/03/2021 07:52

You could try @Daffodil87 but that's was an awful recovery in my experience good luck report back when you and baby are safe x

mrssunshinexxx · 21/03/2021 19:54

Are you ok @Daffodil87

Daffodil87 · 21/03/2021 21:25

@mrssunshinexxx - ah thanks for checking in . I got admitted for induction yesterday and still waiting to go to delivery room. Contractions start and stop.
As for the pile /haemorrhoid, it's not hurting when I stand or sit or walk anymore so the Anusol seems to be working a little. It's still very much there though and bleeding. Haven't been to the loo since Thursday! Midwife has given me lactulose twice but it's not helped at all. I get the urge to go loo and then when I actually go sit on the loo nothing happens! Terrified of delivery and very upset I'll already be in pain down there before I start pushing but midwife told me I won't notice or care. Also very uncomfortably bloated and have reached the point where I will take any laxative offered to me and don't care if I poop all over the delivery room!

LoveCauliflowerCheese · 21/03/2021 21:44

Good luck @Daffodil87 !!! ThanksThanksThanks

mrssunshinexxx · 22/03/2021 08:49

@Daffodil87 good luck! I know how painful they can be but try to focus on the task of getting your lovely baby then beg for something to help down below. Ask them to hold something against that area when pushing x

Daffodil87 · 27/03/2021 05:42

Thanks @mrssunshinexxx baby was born earlier this week. Was very traumatic but all totally worth it and we are home now x

mrssunshinexxx · 27/03/2021 08:50

Oh no sorry to hear that:( dare I ask how your bum is?! @Daffodil87

Daffodil87 · 27/03/2021 09:15

Bum is not painful like before. Just uncomfortable. Haemmaroid is still there and I think there might be another one blocking the back passage a little - basically the whole area feels swollen but not painful. Still very constipated. My stitches are nowhere near the back passage though (sorry if tmi). I'm seeing midwife later so will ask her what to do as had enough.

mrssunshinexxx · 27/03/2021 11:56

Oh bless you it's so early days even another few days things will feel better. Hope you are being well looked after x @Daffodil87
