Experiences of CS vs VB?

Hi all, I'm almost 10 weeks with DC2. My labour with DD was very traumatic, 48 hour labour, epidural fail, midwives telling me I was going to ECS if I didn't make another cm on the next hour, repeat repeat.

In the end she came, but I retained some womb lining, they had to pull the emergency alarm thing as I started bleeding out. I ended up having it manually removed with no painkillers in the bed, and I had a blood transfusion and IV antibiotics. They wouldn't let me go home for days and I ended up with massive post natal depression. Phew!

So I want to avoid PND if at all possible with this DC as I have my 2 year old DD to look after now too.

I'm wondering if an ECS would be better for me to try and save my sanity? Has anyone had a VB and CS? What was the recovery like? This will 100% be my last DC and my DD will be 3 and have started nursery by due date (February) so I'll have some respite during the day .

Thanks for reading all that!

Sorry, forgot to say, DD was 11 days overdue, so having a date set for when we would have a CS sounds really appealing

Hi, we're moving this thread over to our Childbirth topic for the OP. Hopefully some Mumsnetters will be along soon with some words of wisdom. Brew

Hi. My DC1 was born by emsc after a terrible induction.
He was 16 days late.
I chose to have a VBAC the second and third time and was glad I did but I feel I was a much more confident, and knew exactly what I needed to do differently.
During my first labour the midwives made me lie on the bed throughout. In my second and third I stayed on my feet the entire time and listened to my body.
It's a very personal choice but I am very pleased I went for a VBAC.
I had sweeps with my second to try and avoid another induction which worked.
Good luck with whatever you decide. X

I had a VB with dc1, induced with a pessary but not other intervention. The contractions were awful as baby was back to back & it happened very quickly so no paid relief, did get gas & air just after crowning. Couple of stitches & no real tenderness, body was a bit achy like I had spent a day exercising.

DC2 was elective CS, due to position. I hated it, hated the numbness, hated the catheter, hated not having full range of motion. I expected no pain like my VB which is stupid as it's surgery. I was discharged the next day with paracetamol & the first few days were really hard. No issue breast feeding straight away CS though They also used a ventouse which i didn't expect.

DS my recovery was hideous, 18months+. Numbness, pain, couldn't walk properly, incontinent, big issue with scarring. Mentally horrific. Didn't leave the house for 10 weeks. Sex was absolute agony.

DD I had very little pain, was practically back to normal at 4 weeks. No long term issues, no numbness. No lasting impact at all, body healed quickly and I was back in pre pregnancy clothes within 3 weeks.

No contest for me. I'll never have a vaginal birth again. C section all the way.

Just had my first baby wanted natural but after 26 hours was only 3cm and was adamant I didn't want to be put on the drip to induce so opted for 'semi elective section ' it was great honestly I was absolutely exhausted and with a second baby I would have a cs again for sure going in not exhausted knowing the date etc will be great

Yes it hurts after but it's bearable
I had no issues with BF either
