Potential hospital stay - toddler can't visit

I'm due baby 2 in August and I'm worried that I'll be in hospital for an extended amount of time after giving birth and won't be able to see my 3year old daughter - does anyone have any experience of this?
I'm based in Scotland and I see they've announced today that one person can visit however it's just made me realise that whilst my other half can visit me I may be without my daughter - it's made me so emotional.
With my 3yo. her blood type was different to mine so she ended up Jaundice on day 2 and had to go onto the billi bed with regular blood tests for a few days - we were in hospital until day 5. When I initially mentioned it to the consultant this time around she said there is nothing to say it will definitely happen again this time around so we will have to wait and see - essentially it's just a waiting game after baby 2 arrives.
I can't bare the thought of me being in hospital with baby 2 whilst my toddler is at home without her mummy. She's only 3 and I've never been apart from her for more than 2 nights. I really didn't think about it much before now I just assumed by August that things would be back to normal-ish as regards visitors.
I could be sick thinking about it now.
Has anyone else had to stay longer in hosp with other kids at home? How did you get on?

Surprised to hear so many saying children aren't allowed to visit. At ours children are but has to be siblings only.

I'm not due until October and my DS will be 22 months. I'm leaning towards a repeat section so know I will at least have a one night stay. My hospital allow children on patients so all being back to somewhat normal he will be able to visit but if not I intend to pop out and see him in the car park. I need to enquire with my MW at my next appointment about the logistics of this because I know they tag babies before discharge at our hospital so taking baby outside would set alarms off 🙈

@floralf I’m exactly the same as you, was in for 8 days with dd1 with jaundice. I’m 39 weeks with dd2 in Scotland too and I’m gutted that dd1 won’t be able to visit. She will be gutted too, her dad works away a lot and she’s not used to me being away.

I’m booked for a section in August and my DD is 3. We also had a weeklong stay when DD was born. Consultant said she thinks I will be in for 2 nights, all being well.

DD will be at home with DH, and my mum when DH is with me. Going to arrange for them to go to her cousins house etc too - lots of her favourite fun things to keep her mind off me. I have been worried it will be extra hard too because of lockdown - there has been no preschool etc and we have been completely joined at the hip for months!

I’m 36 weeks pregnant and we have been advised that one person can visit 8-8 but no children. When I had my son he was in NICU for 12 days and I was kept in for five. I am concerned something similar may happen again and I won’t have contact with my five year old, however, I had to have my appendix removed last year, my husband and son visited every day (was in for seven days) and my son wasn’t interested in seeing me at all! He was having lots of fun with his Dad and was more excited about getting a McDonalds! So try not to worry too much although it’s a rubbish situation.

I've had a 5 day stay, 22 day stay and a few one /two nighters in hospital. I miss the children but their very adaptable and if kept in their routine and busy hardly notice. Don't make a big thing of it or it will be a problem.
Covid or not with a long stay your child wouldn't be able to visit for long /often anyway.
