Hi everyone! I’m debating on what is the best pads to wear, is comfort more important or is absorbency more important to manage after birth bleeding? Thanks in advance! :)

Boots maternity pads are great

GrumpyHoonMain · 19/06/2020 00:22

For me it was about comfort as I had tearing and stitches. I didn’t care if I bled through them a bit - but as I had a PPH there wasn’t much bleeding afterwards.

Time2change2 · 19/06/2020 00:25

Someone gave me the tip, wear two normal heavy / night sanitary towels at the same time- one behind the other, slightly over lapping if you see what I mean. That way it goes right up the front and right up the back too. At night, I slept on those soft disposable travel changing mats you get to change a baby on out and about. I think they were from pampers. Those also came in super handy when trying to make my son dry at night when he first came out of nappies

The maternity ones are bulky and arent most comfortable ftom that poing of vies butche surface is smooth which you will really appreciate after giving birth. I'd take some of the boots maternity ones and a pack of ordinary long night time towels for heavy flow too. You can then switch to these if you prefer.

itsallgitsandshiggles · 19/06/2020 00:27

Whatever you decide.... buy three times as many. I must have gone through ten packs!!

Lockdownmum1010 · 19/06/2020 00:28

I used boots ones and a couple of supermarket own brands. Boots were the most cushioned which my poor stitched bits appreciated!! I didn't bleed as much as I'd expected so absorbancy was less of an issue for me than comfort!

Shouldbedoing · 19/06/2020 00:29

Maternity pads are very natural and plain snd won't irritate stitches or tears.
Unlike modern sanitary towels.
They are cheap - relatively
Buy lots

dobbleby · 19/06/2020 00:30

I personally found incontinence pads much better then the traditional ones

edin16 · 19/06/2020 00:30

Superdrug ones worked for me! Then I switched to the thin tescos ones after week or so, and I'm still wearing them 3 weeks post partum. They seemed to be fairly absorbent but I changed mine regularly because after everything my poor foof went through it felt really nice to have a fresh one on.
And to be honest that first day or so, your probably going to leak anyway! You could have a whole pillow shoved down there and it would still find a way!

dottydally · 19/06/2020 00:35

Tena pants all the way. I felt much less likely to lean (especially at night) and they are really comfy. Moved onto Boots pads during the day about 4/5 days pp but carried on in tena pants at night for 10 days or so.

LunaNightSky · 19/06/2020 00:46

I bought Tenna Lady pants and used maternity pads together. I used the pants as my knickers for the day and lined with maternity pads which I changed every few hours and then threw away the knickers for fresh ones the next day. I did this for around 10 days, I had a uterine infection following birth so had some extra bleeding.
It saved ruining my underwear and was comfortable as it provided padding for stitches.

I loved Tesco maternity pads. Had no problems with them at all. (I went for them as we had a big Tesco across the road at the time so was easy to get them). (To add I found the Tesco breast pads great as well)

BeingLonely · 19/06/2020 00:53

I bought boots own brand maternity pads and they were great. Dead comfy and no leaks!

fool11 · 19/06/2020 11:14

tena pants combined with boots maternity, lilly lets maternity pads - doubled to make it nice and soft when sitting down..

MrsPoll · 19/06/2020 11:29

Lillets Maternity - 17 days after giving birth I have gone through 10 packs! They work well at night and with a bit of spritz for bits sprayed on them. Found the boots ones a bit too thick and uncomfortable.

JugsAndSoap · 19/06/2020 23:56

Lovely soft reusable (washable in the machine) postpartum pads / extra heavy reusable sanitary pads.

They are not cheap but the sheer joy of the lovely soft fabric on your poor sore body is wonderful.

I had quite a lot anyway as I ghave heavy periods and enjoy the comfort of them anyway.

Think of what your body has gone through- it's earned a bit of luxury!

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 20/06/2020 00:03

Boots own we’re good on my poor stitched up bits for the heavy bleeding. Once it calmed down I moved to reusable pads. Never thought I would but they were so much softer on my bits where as I was finding the traditional pads especially with wings plastically and rubbing an already VERY sore area. Especially as I had them on. Ought and day for a good two and a bit weeks with all the bleeding. I got them from amazon very reasonably

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 20/06/2020 15:19

I loved the lil-lets maternity pads. They are like slightly thicker 'normal' pads but nice and wide and long.
I had some other maternity pads and they were about an inch thick they were awful.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 20/06/2020 15:26

Lots or Tesco own maternity pads. NOT always or any other scented brands with the chemicals to draw away moisture they dry out any stitches and stick to them.

If you can, get hold of some witch hazel liquid, I poured it onto the pads then stuck them in the freezer in a plastic bag. It was sheer bliss having a cold soothing pad.

I had a second degree tear though, not sure how it feels if you have no tear.

BirdGarden · 20/06/2020 20:33

Naturacare maternity pads all the way for me. Pricey but soooo comfy and soft. I've use them for an episiotomy and now a 2/3 tear and they are NEEDED. I have looked at some of the supermarket "thin and discreet" maternity pads and they make me shudder just considering them. And the plastic in them too, I do not need any sweat down there right now 😳

Hi everyone! Thank you all so much for your comments, you have been really helpful❤️

I know it varies but the bleeding is really eye opening. I couldn't get from knickers down to sitting on the loo (so 3 seconds) without the loo looking there'd been a massacre.

weegiemum · 22/06/2020 20:39

Mine were boots own.

Be really careful if you use ordinary pads as some of them are scented and I can't imagine the irritation!!!

YorkshireIndie · 22/06/2020 20:59

Boots thick maternity pads followed by the slimline ones! Loved the boots ones

ttigerlilly · 22/06/2020 21:38

Boots Maternity pads

They're about £1.30 for 10 and they are excellent. Very absorbent and comfortable
