Waters broken before contractions!

I'm 39 + 1 and mine started to go at 6 am this morning. Lots now, lovely and clear. But no contractions as yet! Did similar happen to anyone else? My midwife (home birth) says just to chill but that is easier said than done!!!

@EarringsandLipstick

We had a really long conversation about this on the other thread. I kept being told I was unreasonable to be surprised at the number of women willing to take risks for their birth 'experience' and reject medical advice. I understand not wanting interventions (who does?!), but on MN they are painted as a bad thing rather than the lifesaving procedures they are.

EarringsandLipstick · 26/05/2020 20:17

I agree entirely @Wolfgirrl

There's a distinction between preference, which is absolutely fair, and necessity, and when it comes to necessary interventions, it amazes me that some women are so utterly sure that they no best, despite lacking medical training.

However I recognise that PPs have had negative experiences where they've had poor treatment & I absolutely see why that would influence your views.

It's just the stories I've heard about things going wrong in labour & needing rapid intervention (from family member) make me realise how easily & quickly things can change to an emergency.

Hope all going well for OP anyway!

Argh! 'Know best' not 'no' 🤦🏻‍♀️

GreenWillowTree · 26/05/2020 21:22

@Nicknamegoeshere I hope your beautiful baby is here by now and that you are both doing well.

Nicknamegoeshere · 26/05/2020 21:35

Our precious little girl is here! The two IM's we had were exceptional, and it was an incredibly empowering experience after two very difficult hospital births. Not an an labour, but one of choice which we shall look back upon incredibly positively Smile

Littlepoppet1 · 26/05/2020 21:40

Congratulations! Flowers

GreenWillowTree · 26/05/2020 21:41

Oh congratulations. I am so pleased for you. Never have I anticipated the birth of a baby of someone I did not know so much.

Did you have a water birth?

Nicknamegoeshere · 26/05/2020 21:46

@GreenWillowTree Aw thank you. I feel so amazing! I laboured in the pool from 10 pm - 2 am and then went up to my bedroom because I felt so safe there. She was born gently into my fiancé's arms under mw guidance as I knelt across my bed at just gone 8 am this morning Smile

Congratulations! I am so happy for you! I am so glad you got the birth you wanted and she is here safe and sound. Your birth sounds perfect. x

georgialondon · 26/05/2020 21:53

Yes, me. It's ok !

GreenWillowTree · 26/05/2020 21:58

That sounds wonderful. You should feel amazing.

I really wanted a water birth but I wasn’t allowed in the pool. Hopefully I will this time. So pleased it all worked out well for you.

Nicknamegoeshere · 26/05/2020 22:21

@00deed1988 It was just amazing. The IM's allowed myself and my partner to share the experience under their watchful eye with no pressure or clock watching - everything done at our own pace. OH felt incredible as daddy to have such an important and involved role.

@GreenWillowTree The pool was absolute bliss - really hope you get to go in one this time around. It was like a little cocoon of safety Smile

@nicknamegoeshere

I love attending home births like this. I am only newly qualified and attended a few as a student. I am an NHS ward based midwife at the moment but if I do decide to go to community, that is what I am looking forward to the most. Enjoy those newborn snuggles now and rest. All the best!

Hiphopopotamus · 26/05/2020 22:27

Oh congratulations! I’ve been thinking about you today. That all just sounds absolutely perfect

Congratulations OP, I'm so happy for you that it all worked out well and you were able to have a home birth. Enjoy your new baby.

Nicknamegoeshere · 27/05/2020 20:09

Aw thanks so much all! Feeling a bit sore today and tired but baby is just awesome. Baby has had her first checks and all good.
Her brothers met her for the first time today and my youngest in particular (10) is such a proud big brother! 😊
