Is propess pessary meant to be this painful?

AllThatJazz92 · 03/02/2020 14:16

Had pessary inserted at 9am and have very bad period pains at the moment. Have walked around lots to try and relieve the pain but finding it very hard. Can I request pain relief? Finding it difficult to manage at the moment

Are they coming and going like contractions? My first contractions felt like period pains. Are you still in hospital or have you been sent home? When mine started, I rang the hospital and they told me to time them and come in when they were lasting x amount of time, every x amount of minutes. They advised a warm bath, hot water bottle and paracetamol as early pain relief prior to the contractions being close enough to go to hospital. When they got close enough to go in, I got my Tens machine going for the journey to hospital.

AllThatJazz92 · 03/02/2020 18:17

Yes they are exactly like very bad period pains..coming and going every 2 minutes. I am in the hospital. I wasnt expecting the pain to be this bad for just having the pessary put in and really struggling with the pain ☹

When I had this, I also got very bad period pains. Almost electrical if that makes sense lol. I told the nurse when she came over and said ‘oooh you Should have pressed the buzzer and told us’. So I’d definitely ask for some pain relief! Smile

Have you been checked or monitored? I was overstimulated by it and needed to be given a drug to counteract it.

RandomMess · 03/02/2020 19:06

My 4 DC were all induced and yes I found the "contractions" painful.

I did find a tens machine helpful, didn't think it was that great until the batteries ran out Shock

What pain relief have you tried/asked for?

AllThatJazz92 · 03/02/2020 19:09

All I have been given is paracetamol...they keep saying to use natural methods which I have been doing, bouncing on birthing ball, walking, I've done nearly 6000 steps and had a hot shower. They mentioned about pepedin (not sure of spelling) but they seem reluctant to give it to me

Have they not checked your progress yet?

AllThatJazz92 · 03/02/2020 19:16

They have said that the pessary has to be in for 24 hours, I havent had any internal checks or anything since it was put in at 9am this morning

I had a lot of pain after my propess pessary. Turned out I was in labour and baby came very quickly. Ring your bell and insist they examine you!

Extracurricularfatigue · 03/02/2020 19:18

All my contractions were like increasingly bad period pains. I would ask them to check you out. Good luck!

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/02/2020 19:20

No that’s not right they leave it up to 24 hours they are supposed to check if you are struggling with pain or how would they know how dilated you are if at all. I would ask for gas and air and if you need it pethidine. They will need a dr to prescribe the pethidine if you aren’t in established labour.

Extracurricularfatigue · 03/02/2020 19:20

And I assume they mean pethidine for pain. Could you ask them whether gas and air is an option?

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/02/2020 19:21

I had the pessary at 9am, baby was born at midnight.

DonnaDarko · 03/02/2020 19:23

Sounds like contractions! Demand to be monitored.

I was hyper stimulated by the damn thing and was having 8 contractions in 10 minutes. I think they would have left me with just gas and air f DP hadn't kicked up a fuss and demand that I be checked. .

Still took 24 hours for DS to be born

Can you tell I'm still annoyed lol.

Wishing you the best X

Smeghead90 · 03/02/2020 19:23

You need to tell them if you’re not coping, I was over stimulated and was having contractions every 10 seconds it was horrendous they had to take the propess out

Obligatorync · 03/02/2020 19:24

I found it painful yes

Bluebelltulip · 03/02/2020 19:24

Insist on being checked. Mine went in at 6pm, had to be removed at 10pm as the overstimulation was causing baby to be distressed then he was born at 10am the next day. I was settled on the post natal ward 24 hours after the propess was inserted.

Cah87 · 03/02/2020 19:28

I had the pessary inserted as well and was supposed to be for 24 hours but the pain became unbearable after 7 hours and finally begged a midwife to check me over. She wasn't happy about it but did so after my pleading. Turned out I was 9cm dilated and they quickly whisked me to a delivery room.
They tried to fob me off with painkillers but they were so busy, I didn't even get them.
I'd get them to check how far along you are, just to be on the safe side.
All the best with labour Flowers

MyDcAreMarvel · 03/02/2020 19:30

I was hyper stimulated by the damn thing and was having 8 contractions in 10 minutes. so was I one a minute, they had to remove it and just break my waters instead. The midwife was lovely though constantly beeping the dr for diamorphine and gave me gas and air and IV paracetamol.

AllThatJazz92 · 03/02/2020 19:37

So I have been tracking the "contractions" and they are coming every 2 and a half to 3 minutes and lasting on average a minute and a half, some longer. I asked the midwife for pethidine and she said it was way too early for it and that I can only get gas and air on the labour ward. I dont understand why I am being left to suffer in pain

strawberry2017 · 03/02/2020 19:37

You can ask to be checked. My pessary was put in early in the morning and my pains were so on top of each other they checked me that afternoon
Good luck

Raspberrytruffle · 03/02/2020 19:38

OP they sound like they were offering you pethadine? Its an injection which helps ease the pain and relax you. I'd suggest taking them up with it once the natural method are not working. If you are fully dialatted they won't give it. Good luck

RandomMess · 03/02/2020 19:39

You them to examine you.

Sorry they aren't being supportive Sad

ballsdeep · 03/02/2020 19:42

Gas and air is good though . Ask to be monitored and checked. I thought if they induced you , you had to have monitoring

Narcheska · 03/02/2020 19:43

Ask them to examine you.

I had the same with DS1 and I kicked ups fuss until they examined me. I was 6cm and whisked straight off to labour ward while the horrible midwife who had refused to believe I was in pain was muttering and looking embarrassed

Dd I had it too but was barely 2 or 3 Cm so they had to remove it
