How long did you stay in hosp with elective caesarean

I have mine this week and I keep hearing its one night. With my emcs I was in for 5 days but appreciate its a longer recovery. That said one night sounds too little when I will be coming home to a boisterous two year old. Midwife today at preop group meeting was adament we would all leave after 24 hours 😬

1 night for my ELCS. Had DD in the morning as was home the following day in the afternoon. I was a bit surprised it was that quick but seemed the norm at our hospital for those with no complications. Did get sent home with liquid morphine though, amazing stuff, not sure if I'd felt as happy going home just on paracetamol and ibuprofen!

Ohhgreat · 06/01/2020 20:55

Section 10am, home 4pm the following day, would have been earlier but the doctor doing the baby checks was delayed. Home on just paracetamol and codeine, didnt find I needed the codeine. Seriously it's a world away from an emcs.

@Travellingraspberry That's interesting that they let you take the morphine home. I wonder if it varies from hospital to hospital or if I just looked like a dodgy sort who was going to sell it for cash!

OK thanks, I guess I'm worrying over nothing. I also don't like hospitals (who does!) but am conscious of how many people I know that ended up going back in. 5 days last time nearly broke me. The sleep deprivation was unbelievable, let alone being away from DH (who actually helped as opposed to the mwives who frequently ignored me in the night) hopefully I will feel as well as you all did

I had DD at 10.30pm on the sunday night and was home by 9.30pm the monday night. I was glad though as previous csection I had to endure an 8 night stay and it was awful.

Funnyface1 · 07/01/2020 19:26

I was in for 25 hours but I was absolutely desperate to leave. There were 4 of us who all had c sections, I was the last to have my baby and the first to leave. The other 3 were staying another night.

LongLiveThePenis · 07/01/2020 19:29

Baby out at 10, home by 2 the next day. I also was stuck after EMCS for a week so was itching to go home the second time.

Putapeonyinyourpocket · 09/01/2020 16:44

Less than 24 hours... I kid you not, because I was "managing well". In my oblivious first time mum haze I thought great, ended up with an infection and couldn't actually function properly until week 9!
We went private six months later as I was still having problems. Private hospital is two mins away from where I had my son, they could not believe how quickly they were chucking women out. Next time I'm asking for two nights minimum, and thanks to mumsnet enquiring if we can pay for a side room if free.

Justasconfusedwithnumber2 · 09/01/2020 18:11

Well I had my section at 11am yesterday and home at tea today. I'm really sore and tired but they convinced me it was the best thing to do. I'm looking forward to going to bed for sure! Thanks to all for responding, fingers crossed its the right decision.

Congratulations op, Flowers did you have a boy or girl?

Hope you get a good nights sleep and all goes well.
I can't believe how quickly they're turning mothers out of hosp now.
It used to be a 10 day stay when I had mine back in the dark ages.

Justasconfusedwithnumber2 · 09/01/2020 19:36

Thanks @BedSprings we had a boy, he's just beautiful 😍. It seems odd to me too but I guess they think you heal better at home. I just have to hope my two year old us gentle with me for abit

Oh congratulations how lovely, enjoy!

GrumpyHoonMain · 10/01/2020 06:39

I stayed for a week with an assisted delivery due to a PPH that nearly killed me. The lady next to me had a minor PPH with an ELCS and was ready to be discharged within 2 days but it was then delayed when her baby got sick, so it does depend on your health.

lilyrayne · 10/01/2020 06:46

2 nights xx

mintich · 10/01/2020 06:52

I was out 24 hours after the birth

Justasconfusedwithnumber2 · 10/01/2020 08:06

Well he was born at 11.30am, 2hours in recovery. Catheter out at 6am following morning, first walk at 11am and discharged at 4pm, would've been as early as 2pm if they hadn't faffed with the paperwork. Must say the walk to the car through the hospital was agonising but I had a much better night in bed with baby cuddles. Very sore now but its more a fact I didn't proactively take painkillers through the night. I chose to sleep instead of set an alarm which meant I woke up in pain! Lesson to be learned there. I am very lucky this time it was elective and we had no health problems. DS2 also nailed bfeeding by yesterday lunchtime which is about 1000x quicker than DS1. Had he not I would've pushed to stay for the additional support. Best of luck to anyone in a similar position and take some comfort I was obviously very anxious about this and we have managed so far! and I am a bit of wimp it would seem
