Tell me about your cervix

Long painful induction for DD, ended in a 5 night hospital induction giving birth eventually at 42+4. 3 pessaries and 48 hours on the drip. Episiotomy and instrumental delivery in the end, 2 hours pushing, long recovery.

Currently 40+7 with second. I have a c section booked in for 42 weeks exactly as I'm not expected to go through the induction again my body didn't respond well. I would like to give birth vaginally but I just don't feel like it's going to happen.

3rd sweep today, cervix is 2cm long, 1cm dilated, medium firm and posterior still... so not great. Baby head down and engaged although not fully. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar cervix to go on to spontaneous labour within a few days or if I should just resign myself to the c-section?

We're moving this thread over to our Childbirth topic at the OP's request.

Really hope everything goes okay for you this time, @imiss Flowers

And now giving the thread a bump, in case anyone's around with some advice and support.

Why would they wait till 42 weeks for a section?

Midwife here - please don't get disheartened, a cervix can change so quickly. I've seen women go from a long, thick, totally closed cervix, to a baby in a matter of minutes. Especially when it's your second, it's not really a great indicator at all. Good luck!Smile

@ameliathomas84 as they want to give my body the best chance of going into labour naturally as possible I believe, I'd also imagine it has as much to do with available time slots also

@littlemissalwaystired thank you! That's reassuring to know. Cervix has remained unchanged since sweep no2, sweep no4 tomorrow so hopefully they can tell if it's more favourable at all. No signs here today, apart from brownish mucus plug coming away but I believe that's due to all the irritation. So frustrating, honestly believed as this was second baby things would be different but it's panning out exactly the same.

Moan over! Pregnancy massage tomorrow and another sweep so fingers crossed Smile

I had a failed sweep on Tuesday morning, midwife could just reach the edge of my cervix but couldn’t get a finger in...I went home thinking I must be nowhere close to giving birth. Soontaneous labour started 2am the next day!
