hi. iv just been to see consultant and asked about me wanting a c section on ground of traumatic birth last time. he agreed. but i have to come back to hospital in 3 weeks for yet another growth scan as my baby is measuring too big.when i come then he says i will be given my date for c section. i am 34 weeks now so that will take me to 37 weeks. is it normal to wait that long. and anyone knows what happens from then on

This is turning into a positive thread, there is another thread on the same subject which has in parts been quite anti c section. I feel alot better reading some of the recent comments. I am facing a dilemma currently as my LO at 36 weeks is breech and I just don't know what to do. I am hoping he/she will do the deed and turn naturally but it's been 2 months since he/she decided to sit this way so I am not convinced.

ChubbyScotsBurd · 04/09/2007 13:14

Just came across this thread and want to say to Alfie not to worry if your baby doesn't turn, I had my big breech baby by elective section 6 weeks ago and it wasn't half as bad as I expected (I was a big natural tree-huggy type) - we were out in 48 hours and haven't looked back. I'll be trying for a VBAC next time but I imagine an hour in I'll be begging for another section! Good luck x

Hopeitwontbebig · 04/09/2007 15:06

Chubbyscotsbird, thanks for your positive message regarding cs. I'm booked in for the 17th as my baby is breech and is looking big also. How much did you baby weigh?

lisaseisun · 04/09/2007 15:20

what are the risks to have a vaginal delivery after 2 cesarian sections? does anyone knows? and how much cesarians can a woman have? I am 24 years old and i just had my 2nd cesarian by choise last week and i'm feeling guilty about it cause i had the chance of a vaginal delivery and i blew it.

tori32 · 04/09/2007 15:27

lisa it depends really on why you had the cesarians and whether the same circumstances are likely to reoccur. My friend had a vaginal delivery after 2 c sections. I think they don't recommend more than 3 in total because of internal scar tissue forming.
Hope this helps.

Alfie72 · 04/09/2007 18:21

Thanks for your reassuring message chubbyscotsburd ( cool nickname by the way !!) I was all geared up for a nice water birth and then have ended up listening to talk about ECV and an elective c section. I think I will probably plum for the section unless this LO does a magic trick and turns the right way round. Glad to hear everything went well for you

tori32 · 04/09/2007 19:41

Alfie don't lose hope about your LO being breech at the moment. Its quite common for them to turn even just before the birth. There are quite a few exercises you can do to encourage baby to turn (not sure exactly what these are but I am sure the midwives should be able to advise you)
P.s. I don't think many people are anti section per se, more that if its not medically necessary that it should be paid for by the mum requesting it. ( but thats a different thread)

Alfie72 · 04/09/2007 20:15

Hey Tori...I live in hope that the LO will turn soon but thanks for the reassurance !!
I have tried pretty much everything "natural" I can to try and persuade him/her to wriggle down- I go and do yoga once a week , tried the optimal positioning, acupuncture, cold peas at the top, torch and music on the pelvis. I am going to btry a few headstands in the pool tomorrow as a last chance saloon before I see the dr on Thurs !! I kind of think that It'll be nature's decision I think at the end of the day.

LadySnotAlot · 04/09/2007 20:18

39 weeks is perfectly norm. Both of mine were born then and both had complications beforehand.

ChubbyScotsBurd · 06/09/2007 14:45

Hopeitwontbebig - he was 8lb 2oz, and I'm only 5'2" - so he was big enough, but I'd have had a damn good go if he'd been cephalic! He was on the 95th centile at 34 weeks which is what frightened my consultant but he evidently slowed his growth rate in the final weeks. He's picked it right back up again, putting on 2oz a day! And Alfie - re the ECV, it's definitely worth a go, we had a bash and it wasn't as bad as everyone said it would be. Good luck!

Alfie72 · 06/09/2007 18:20

hey there Chubbyscotsburd, well had a scan today and The ecv is out of the question due to the breech position the bub is lying in so I'm going for the section for sure now, yeah wasn't in the plan but at least I've got a definite answer now and LO's birthday to focus on !! Thanks for all the encouraging words !!

hayley2u · 08/09/2007 17:37

ok so going in for my c section and getting pretty scared now, any advice?

OP posts:
saturn · 10/09/2007 13:00

Hi hayley, I was pretty terrified before mine but it wasn't as bad as I'd expected. We were told to be there for 8am and would go down for 9.30am, but they had 2 before me so didn't go down until 11.30 - would recommend a couple of magazines to read in case you have to wait. I don't have any complaints about the care I received during or after. Had it on the Friday and was allowed to go home on the Monday. Would recommend you do as little as possible the first two weeks after you get home - DD is now 3 weeks and I feel fine now (still taking it fairly easy), but the midwife said because I didn't overdo it the first couple of weeks helped recovery.

Anyway good luck and just think this time next week you will be at home with your LO

empen · 10/09/2007 16:09

I had an emergnecy c section 5 years ago. Had overhang for ages so had tummy tuck on NHS 2 years later. I am now pregnant again so have very dodgy scarring (about 26cm across and about 1 and half cm at its widest part - minging) and going to get overhang back again I am sure as I am in for elective c section in a few weeks.
Weirdest thing was my stretch marks above and below the scar not meeting up!!!!!

MrsPuddleduck · 10/09/2007 16:16

Take in peppermint cordial for the wind afterwards.

I don't know about anyone else but I had the worst wind of my life and only peppermint cordial got rid of it.

hayley2u · 10/09/2007 19:09

2 sleeps to go so terrified. was shocked when m/w said ill only be in for 2 days thought id be in longer than that.
willmouse yer my friend just tol me about the trapped wind thing, will get some of that were do i get it, not heard of it before

OP posts:
eleusis · 11/09/2007 08:46

Haley, you may or may not get trapped wind. It happens because when they open you up air gets in and the gets sealed inside you when they sew you back up. I remember having it with my first section but not much with the second one.

Good luck. Remember to bring your own food in because hospital food is inedible.

MrsPuddleduck · 11/09/2007 09:24

It's a cordial so I think you will be able to buy it from most supermarkets - look amongst the squash etc.

The hospital actually gave me mine but I wouldn't take the chance.

hayley2u · 11/09/2007 10:02

ok i was speaking to my friend yesterday who also had elective c section she told me that when her baby was born they did not put the baby grow on him first they just put a gown on her baby, i thought the idea was to put the baby grow and hat etc. anyone know any different

OP posts:
MrsPuddleduck · 11/09/2007 10:28

For both of mine we had to take down a babygro and hat to the operating theater

When they were born they were just wrapped up in a towel or blanket and brought pretty much straight over after they had been checked.

The babies were then dressed a little later in the recovery area. First time around the midwife did it but second time DH was confident enough.

I suppose it must depend on the hospital but I bet your midwife would know if you ask her.

eleusis · 11/09/2007 11:29

Bring your battery charger for your mobile. Nothing worse than sitting there bored after hours with a dead battery. Some hospitals let you use mobiles. I don't subscribe to Patientline extortion, especislly since most of the people who would call me are overseas so would cost something like £5 per minute just to answer the phone.
