Someone please help!!!
My baby is two weeks old and I'm suffering with horrendous pain in my bum.
Sorry TMI
I've developed Hemorrhoids and I'm an AGONY!!!
Every day I dread going to the loo the pain is like passing glass!!! The toilet is full of blood after I've been. I'm doing everything I can not to be constipated but I find that I'm that scared of going that I'm not fully emptying myself when I do go because of the pain! After I've been to the loo I'm in agony for hours as it is just throbbing and stinging.
I've tried creams and salt baths. But nothing is helping. I really don't want to go to GP as I'm embarrassed and it's just so painful!
I've had a look myself and it's definitely Hemorrhoids I'd say the size of a small grape!! I'm worried that this pain will continue. Please can anyone offer any advice. Has anyone else suffered with this? It's literally bringing me to tears and stopping me enjoying my new baby!
Thanks in advance. Xx

Really?
I did suggest that to the Gp but she said they wouldn't remove them as I can still pass a stool.
I'm scared now!

Oh op. After giving birth to my son I had a similar thread on here begging for help. I was desperate and depressed and couldn't see the pain ever ending and like you it ruined the time with my baby in the first few weeks of his life. Keep going to the doctors or a and e if that is what you have been advised.

It is unacceptable to leave you in this horrendous pain with nothing to help.

You will get through this I know it's horrible but it will pass. But please keep trying to get help until someone listens.

magicnumber8 · 08/08/2019 23:40

I was breastfeeding when I was prescribed Scheriproct cream - the doc said it was fine.

Anothertempusername · 09/08/2019 00:36

OP ask to see a different GP. I was on 4 hourly tramadol and 4 hourly paracetamol for a week after having my son. Totally necessary (episiotomy, 2 2nd degree tears and several thrombosed piles.

The only reason certain GP's won't prescribe anything is that medicine cannot be tested on breastfeeding / pregnant women. There are certain medicines that don't "pass over" to the baby however; co-codamol is one (refuse it - gives terrible constipation) and naproxen is another. Ibuprofen is a no. Keep taking paracetamol because although long term use is dangerous you need it to get through the next few days. This too will pass - keep up with the sitz baths, get some witch hazel and put that in your bath and on a bit of tissue in your pants, frozen peas for when you can rest and arnica tablets. But the pain relief medicine is a must so definitely ask to see another GP.

I've been there and it's horrible but I promise it passes.

Hermones1 · 09/08/2019 03:42

@Smile18 GP is right all meds will interfere with breastfeeding as nothing has been officially tested during clinical trials for breastfeeding whilst suffering with this issue.
My advice is to stop breastfeeding and get the issue solved.

If it gets worse you will need Botox and unless you have private medical insurance it's a hefty cost.

Ask your GP for ointment that you insert I can't remember the name of it but it causes headaches and makes blood rush to the problem area to help it heal quicker

Tomasinaa · 09/08/2019 04:02

I'm not in the uk but I was given Procort on prescription which is hydrocortisone and Pramoxine and it was absolutely brilliant. Also mine was thrombosed and when it popped (for want of a better word) it started to get better. But it took two weeks. I wish you all the best and keep going back until they give you some relief.

ourkidmolly · 09/08/2019 04:42

Go back and state the drugs you need from this thread. You can make an educated decision as to whether cream rubbed into your arse is going to impact on breastfeeding. It's not. This GP us really failing in her duty of care to you and your baby. I am so sorry for you.

PhoenixBuchanan · 09/08/2019 04:50

Your GP is uneducated about BF (surprise, surprise!) Take this factsheet from the Breastfeeding Network with you. All standard meds for piles are fine while BF. Otherwise I would go to A&E.

https://breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/wp-content/dibm/haemorrhoids%20%20and%20anal%20fissures%20and%20breastfeeding%281%29.pdf

This sounds like an extreme case and I feel for you.

magicnumber8 · 09/08/2019 06:54

The poster above who advised stopping breastfeeding - you don't need to. You can use Scheriproct cream when BFing. I was prescribed it by a doctor on the maternity ward whilst still in hospital as we stayed in for a while after birth. I had several piles, including one which had thrombosed, and that cream was a saviour!

Smile18 · 09/08/2019 11:01

I have tried EVERYTHING to be prescribed a steroid cream but the GP is saying no because of the breast feeding. Ive rang them crying this morning and they just said to go to A&E!!!! It's bloody ridiculous! No wonder A&E departments are bursting when GO give advice like that! All I need is a cream!!

midsummabreak · 09/08/2019 12:10

Im sorry you are still in so much pain , please do go to A & E. I cant imagine they are saying it lightly

Blahblahblahnanana · 09/08/2019 12:18

The dr is right there’s nothing a GP can do, the advice is also correct to go to a&e. Hope you get it sorted soon as it’s one of the worse pains ever!

So so painful!
midsummabreak · 09/08/2019 13:02

Please don't let embarasment stop you from getting back to good health and being pain free. If this was your ear or your leg causing so much pain every time you walk would you have taken the advice to see a&e? I hope you are able to attend a&e and do not have to felel it best to suffer this out.

PhoenixBuchanan · 09/08/2019 18:02

That is ridiculous OP. I'm sorry your GP is so unhelpful and so ill-informed about breastfeeding.

You know these are all over the counter medications and you can just go to the pharmacy and get it yourself, right? You don't actually need a prescription unless you want it free. I'd go to the pharmacy myself, and if they ask if you're BF, just say no! Then carry on.

CupoTeap · 09/08/2019 22:22

Did you try your mw?

Smile18 · 09/08/2019 23:27

Yes my MW said she couldn't help as she doesn't prescribe!! I've got a further GP appointment Monday in which I've requested they show me evidence that clearly states that I can't be given any steroid cream while breastfeeding and I'm taking the evidence that I can!!! In the mean time I've got some ice packs especially for that area and I'm taking paracetamol and ibuprofen Sad and lathering on the anusol!
Honestly I thought that childbirth would be the worst........ give me that anyday over Hemorrhoids!!
Thank you all so much for your replies. Very much appreciated xx

I’m sorry that you’re getting no where with your GP. Unfortunately there’s not much that can be done for piles, other than helping you manage the pain as they tend to heal on there own, however in sever cases they may need banding or surgery to remove them.

Unfortunately what tends to happen is that Some GPs and most people generally tend to think that because a woman is pregnant or breastfeeding that they can’t have certain medication so won’t prescribe, or it’s midwives that deal with health/medical issues which is simply not true. Midwifes don’t prescribe medication.

If it’s a general health issue such as piles a GP is the first point of call if over the counter remedies haven’t worked, as they can prescribe something stronger than over the counter remedies to help with the pain and swelling. If that doesn’t work they can then refer you to your local hospital for further treatment.

However in your circumstances and because you’re in severe pain you really need to go to a&e as this is the advice your GP and nhs 111 gives.

If you do wait until Monday to see your GP and they still won’t prescribe anything stronger ask them to refer to the BNF. But tbh if I were you I’d go to a&e or get an out of hours doctors appointment.

Doubleraspberry · 10/08/2019 06:29

I would also go to A&E. If piles are thrombosed they can help (and when pain is this severe they often have). The more high octane piles creams aren’t over the counter unfortunately so you do need a prescription for them but your GP is being a fool about this. You will hopefully find an A&E doctor happier to do this.

My GP, who was happy to give me the big boy creams when pregnant, said she would have sent me straight to A&E with mine if not pregnant as they zap them. Pregnant women go unzapped!

Smile18 · 12/08/2019 09:54

Ok so after being in pain all weekend I'm back at the GP this morning. BUT..... over the weekend I was severely constipated and as a result of that I know how caused a fissure!!!!!!!
The piles are still there but I do think they are slowly getting smaller as thankfully don't seem as painful. However now my problem is the fissure I've looked and it's definitely a small cut. Any suggestions please????

OP posts:
ChipInTheSugar · 12/08/2019 10:39

They can give you some eyewateringly expensive cream for fissures. I hope it heals soon. Keep on with stool-softeners too to make it as easy as possible to poo.

Doubleraspberry · 12/08/2019 11:48

The GP needs to prescribe the same cream for a fissure as the piles. It all does the same thing - anaesthetic for your poor bum. Don’t be told you can’t have it. You can.
