So so painful!

Someone please help!!!
My baby is two weeks old and I'm suffering with horrendous pain in my bum.
Sorry TMI
I've developed Hemorrhoids and I'm an AGONY!!!
Every day I dread going to the loo the pain is like passing glass!!! The toilet is full of blood after I've been. I'm doing everything I can not to be constipated but I find that I'm that scared of going that I'm not fully emptying myself when I do go because of the pain! After I've been to the loo I'm in agony for hours as it is just throbbing and stinging.
I've tried creams and salt baths. But nothing is helping. I really don't want to go to GP as I'm embarrassed and it's just so painful!
I've had a look myself and it's definitely Hemorrhoids I'd say the size of a small grape!! I'm worried that this pain will continue. Please can anyone offer any advice. Has anyone else suffered with this? It's literally bringing me to tears and stopping me enjoying my new baby!
Thanks in advance. Xx

Oh smile18 you poor thing, this is horrendous. I remember screaming from the toilet when I had a postpartum fissure. I remember being terrified all day of needing to go to the loo and lying awake at night in agony. It’s awful.

Everyone else has covered it - water, fibre, lactulose and dulcoease tablets, and if you can bear to put them up, glycerol suppositories which make it come out without you straining.

Congratulations on your baby and good luck with the recovery Flowers

Hi all
Just an update. I went to GP today who had a look and told me that there wasn't much they could do for me Sad she said they will go down in 3-4 weeks and in the meantime just to put ice on them.
Not very helpful if I'm honest. I've cried all
Day the pain is unreal!! I just can't cope with it anymore. I'm so fed up!

Oh sorry to hear that OP. If it helps I was given a similar timeframe but felt better after a few days.

On a separate note, and I know it doesn’t help you, I don’t know if you were warned about this but I wasn’t. I really think maternity services ought to warn new mothers of the risk of this and advise them to up their fibre or even take lactulose Sad

magicnumber8 · 08/08/2019 05:20

There's nothing they can do?! Can you get a second opinion with a different doctor? That's rubbish - there's definitely something they can do. There is a prescription-strength cream called Scheriproct- you need it from the sounds of the pain you're in. It sorted me out in a couple of days when I was in agony with piles after birth.

Longdistance · 08/08/2019 05:31

I had this too op. It’s just awful. Mine were like a bunch of grapes. I put ice into a plastic food bag and popped it on them to shrink them. I was also prescribed diclofenac which is an anti inflammatory. Worked wonders. Not sure if you can get the diclofenac over the counter or not, but ice is your friend.

Best of luck Flowers

You've been treated very poorly by the GP. Crying in pain all day indicates a real problem. You've given birth vaginally twice in a short time and if this pain is unmanageable, they need to help you. How are you feeding if you can't sit? Go back again and really lay it out there. You're not able to parent if this continues. It makes me so Angry the way women's issues are just dismissed and you're expected to deal with pain like that.

Sandybval · 08/08/2019 05:49

Do you have a ring cushion to sit on? Also I sprayed my maternity pad with bum spray from one of the mum companies (can't remember which one off hand) which was so lovely and soothing. Did you check with the doctor which painkillers you could use when BF? There is also a website I believe, but it might be out of date. Lots of women get dismissed after childbirth as pain is seen to be normal (wrongly)- but I bet there are things they could do to help! Could you maybe ask your HV?

Smile18 · 08/08/2019 05:50

I will be going back today. I've hardly slept because of the pain. I'm using anusol at the minute but it's really not doing anything at all to help with the pain. I'm petrified of needing the loo!!
It's a real struggle to feed baby! I'm doing it best I can by laying down or sitting on my legs not ideal I know. My husband has taken this week off extra to help me but he's back Monday (he's self employed so he needs to go back as we need the money) there is just no way I'll be able to parent all three kids without him!!! This needs sorting. What else can I do???

Present at your local hospital emergency department. Im wondering if this could be something other than haemorrhoids such as a healed anal fissure with abcess behind it, which is the lump ( of pus) and explains the pain Is there any leakage? Did you have episiotomy?

CupoTeap · 08/08/2019 06:18

Op call your mw- I found them so much better than gp with pregnancy/birth related stuff.

slipperywhensparticus · 08/08/2019 06:34

Make sure you are clean when you wipe it helps with the irritation I use wipes but never flush them even the flushable ones

boomshakalak · 08/08/2019 06:49

Try Witch Hazel gel from Superdrug. Worked wonders for me.

Mummaofmytribe · 08/08/2019 06:57

Get a second opinion. Ring midwife at the very least You do not deserve to be suffering like this. Proper examination and treatment is urgently needed.

BillywigSting · 08/08/2019 07:28

You absolutely need a second opinion. I got something called proctosedyl prescribed by my Dr when mine were horrendous. It's got a steriod in it to shrink them and take the inflammation down and a strong local anesthetic.

The first night using it I slept like the dead because the pain didn't wake me up and actually felt almost human in the morning. They shifted fairly quickly after that. The relief was immeasurable.

Dulcoease as a pp said is also your friend. As are water wipes for cleaning up (normal ones sting like a bastard).

Avoid very spicy food like the plague.

I made that mistake only once. The chilli poo was more painful than the first post birth poo! It ached for hours afterwards. I cried. It was a bad day.

You have my deepest sympathy op. Not only is it absolute agony it's mortally embarrassing too. But there is absolutely something that can be done to help!

and your gp is a dismissive prick

FVFrog · 08/08/2019 07:31

Yes yes to lactalose, my midwife told me it needs to be “like squeezing toothpaste from a tube”. Really, really helps. Hope you get some relief soon

ritapetita · 08/08/2019 11:31

See a different doctor and don't settle for no help.

I had a fissure that I thought was piles for ages and it took me 4 GP visits to get properly diagnosed and the appropriate treatment.

itsabootyhole · 08/08/2019 11:40

Right you need a rubber ring to sit on and some Epsom salts, send dh out to get them. I've had 5 babies and had to do this every time.

Smile18 · 08/08/2019 12:02

I'm having Sitz baths maybe 4-5 times a day with salt but that's not made a difference. I'm pretty sure it is piles and I can see the "bulge" it's so so tender to touch and I struggle to put the cream on as it stings so much! My midwife is coming to me tomorrow so I'm going to ask her about it. Everything is an effort now. I can't think of anything else other than pain!
The pain is keeping me up more than the baby is.

Currently laid on my sofa breastfeeding my baby with an ice pack in between my cheeks!! Wtf has my life become???

Sorry you are suffering Smile18 Brew
Don't put up with the pain great you are consulting with midwife this needs to be checked thoroughly again be an experienced mdwife or Dr
Helpful soothing advice on here like rubber ring, lactilose, and BillyWigSting* suggestion of cream with small amount of steroid like proctesedyl

FindaPenny · 08/08/2019 13:47

@smile18 I really would suggest the method that I mentioned earlier in the thread. I was suffering so bad with a fissure and sometimes piles too, I read about the method on another thread and honestly it takes some of the fear out of going to the loo... Took my pain down from a 9 to about 6 and then gradually to nothing.

BillywigSting · 08/08/2019 16:40

I second findapenny's method for taking the edge off the pain when you go too. It doesn't make it painless but it does help

Anothertempusername · 08/08/2019 16:50

You can use Anusol whilst breastfeeding!!!

Smile18 · 08/08/2019 17:59

Thank you again for your comments. I'm new to this so not sure how to reply to people individually.
I've been to GP again and she said that she can't prescribe me anything more as I'm breast feeding and if the piles were worse to go to A&E!!!
Kind of feel fobbed off to be honest. I am using anusol but it's not taking the pain away. The ice is probably helping a bit but as soon as I move or walk it's painful again.

Off to A&E you go then op!
