When were you induced!

Am 40 weeks pregnant tomorrow. Having spent 37 weeks waiting for this date I now have no idea how long it will be before I have my baby.

Feeling no signs at all of labour.(BH but nothing else)

Am beginning to think that I'll end up being induced. I know different hospitals have differing policies on when to be induced. How far over your dates were you when you were induced? Just to give me an idea of how much longer I will be uncomfortable for!

Fingers definitely crossed for you! You can do it!

Notyummy · 07/08/2007 11:30

Wait...wait! I was induced, having been told that I had to go for dd + 10 because there were 'no slots' for 5 days after that. I felt railroaded and tried to fight my corner, but was not offered any alternbative (monitoring etc) When I went in to be induced the midwife said that my cervix was facing the wrong way and I was no where near giving birth, but they would do it anyway I ended up having a high forceps delivery with no pain relief (my choice, I only wanted gas and air and they took that off me for pushing). This was because my contractions were weak and intermittant and iam SURE that was because my body was just not ready to give birth. Always well that ends well and me and dd are healthy, but poor old dh still remains traumatized by the whole forceps thing and wells up when he talks about it....

Guitargirl · 07/08/2007 20:12

typhoonsmum - hope it worked and you are in labour??

typhoonsmum · 07/08/2007 20:33

Had the sweep. Was only 2cm dilated. Bishops score of 4. (This baby doesn't want to be born) As I am nearly 42 weeks they have booked me in for Thursday for an induction with prostin.
Am scared now. Told DP to go to work and I'll phone him when it gets interesting. He could be sat about for hours doing nothing. (Or it could all be done in a few hours and he'll miss it.) MIL will drop me off and then I'm on my own. ( MIL will have to go as she has 3 grandchildren to watch at the moment My dd who is 4 and DSD who is 13 and Niece who is 12. I don't want them about. It could put them off having kids for life)

i was 12 days late on mine

puffylovett · 07/08/2007 20:38

I resisted induction despite a shedload of pressure from all angles.. ds arrived easily and naturally 18 days past due date

best of luck

bananabump · 07/08/2007 20:40

Hope you're ok, typhoon. Try to relax, you can call your other half when things get going can't you? Hope it all goes quickly and smoothly for you.

I'm so fucking fed up, my contractions sped up to 7 mins apart, so I told some people who are now excited, and now they have gone back to 30 mins apart and less bloody painful than they were. It's like they want to make a fool of me. I'm very unimpressed.

lou33 · 07/08/2007 20:41

36 weeks

Sparkletastic · 07/08/2007 20:45

Went 2 weeks over then induced, despite really not wanting to be. Was glad after though as turns out DD2 has congenital hypothyroidism and one of symptoms is that they don't 'trigger' natural birth, so she could have got into trouble if I'd left her in much longer...

Guitargirl · 07/08/2007 21:09

2cm dilated, that's positive isn't it?

Hopefully the sweep will get things going by Thursday.

Good luck - looking forward to reading your birth announcement!

bambi06 · 07/08/2007 21:25

19 days naturally with first and 10 days with second[used homeopathy to kick start it] and waiting for number 3 right now..due on thursday and been told they wont let me go past 14 days..yeah and says who..who do they think they are !!it annoys me when they try and take over your decisions for you but i`ve already told them i dont do induction..fun ahead i think

macmama73 · 07/08/2007 21:28

I was induced with both DCs, I have never had non-chemical contractions!

DD was born after a long labour, epidural helped to keep me going. Was a good labour, iykwim.

With DS I felt that they rushed me (different hospital) and ended up having a CS. The MW kept bumping up the dose and DS didn't like it at all. My waters had broken the day before. Interesting to read that they don't advise an induction in this situation anymore.

@Tyhpoonsmum
Good luck, hope everything goes well.

BTW, what is a sweep? Am living in Germany and have never heard this term before

bambi06 · 07/08/2007 21:30

can i ask about sweeps..are they painful..two mums recently said they were for them and i`m just wondering whether it is for everyone?

bananabump · 07/08/2007 22:15

macmama73, to the best of my knowledge a membrane sweep is when the midife inserts a couple of fingers into the vagina and manually seperates/loosens the membranes/mucous plug away from the cervix, irritating it and hopefully starting off some contractions.

I've heard it can be a bit uncomfortable, some women say it's painful, some women say it was nothing at all. It probably depends how soft and ready your cervix is at the time and how easy it is for the midwife to reach/get her fingers inside it.

I have one booked for saturday if baby doesn't appear beforehand.

macmama73 · 07/08/2007 22:58

ok, I have heard of that being done here in Germany too, just had never heard the translation. Don't think it is common here actually, can't think that it has a specific name in German. Thanks.

typhoonsmum · 08/08/2007 11:37

The sweep didn't hurt at all. It is just really embarassing. A bit like a smear test. Getting scared now tho. Everyone says induction is more painful. Natural childbirth wasn't a walk in the park.

@typhoonsmum
crossing my fingers that everything goes well.
Any signs of labour? I remember getting lots of tips to help start me off naturally, unfortunately I cannot recommend any cause nothing worked

Lawrene8 · 08/08/2007 12:59

Bambi06 I know what you mean. MY ds arrived spontaneously at 9 days overdue and before that the consultant tried to pressure me into having an indiction. he couldn't believe it when I flatly refused - don't think he'd ever been told No before!

typhoonsmum · 08/08/2007 13:18

No more signs of labour than I've had in the past few weeks. Stoamch aches that disappear and that is about it!
