Fuppy · 18/04/2019 18:00

Just that really! I've still got a fair few weeks left before d day, but I like to be prepared early.

Which knickers would you recommend post birth and why?

Thanks 🙏

I just got big dark-coloured granny knickers . You'll be using big pads for a while , and you want to be comfortable. Big soft knickers did it for me. I just threw them out once I got back to normal .

YouJustDoYou · 18/04/2019 18:06

I ended up emergency cesaerean. Dh got me the largest cotton pants he could find as most others sat on my cut and were too painful to wear.

abcriskringle · 18/04/2019 18:06

Primark full briefs, a size larger than you are. Maternity pads are bulky! Plus everything feels quite tender for a while so you def want to avoid anything tight.

Happilyacceptingcookies · 18/04/2019 18:07

Black boxer short type from primark, pack of 4 I think. Not too tight around thighs. Nice stretchy elastic waistband that doesn't dig in. And still fits now the baby weight has mostly fallen off.

IM0GEN · 18/04/2019 18:07

What birdie said. Large black cheap cotton. You will bleed all over them anyway. Bin them later.

wateraddict · 18/04/2019 18:27

I have period pants from cheeky wipes. They might be good if you have not had a c-section as they provide some backup for the large pads. Once you don't need the pads but need some protection, they are absorbent and continue to be useful. Then you can reuse for your periods and environmentally friendly. Loads of other makes but I have these https://www.cheekywipes.com/bamboo-minky-cheeky-mama-cloth-sanitary-pads/pp-b-68-1.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2pWdxJTa4QIVzpztCh0jsQrcEAQYAiABEgKIaDD_BwE. I hope the link works!

I've honestly preferred the paper type with each of mine. So much easier, couldn't really feel them and can change as regularly as needed.

PoachedEggOnToast · 18/04/2019 18:41

Another vote for full briefs from primark in black and in a larger size than you would usually go for

polkadotpixie · 18/04/2019 18:46

I bought the stretchy black shorts style from Primark. They're so comfy and come quite high up so didn't rub on my c section cut. I still wear them now because they're so comfy! £5 for 3 pairs

blackcat86 · 18/04/2019 18:49

Dark coloured maternity knickers are good or a multitask of primark big knickers in a much too big size. Basically anything big that comes up quite high as to not irritate your scar

bitchfromhell · 18/04/2019 18:56

H&M black high waisted ones for after a sort of emcs. 3 months on and im still in them Blush
They'd have been fine for after a vaginal birth too.
Should also advise on buying a variety of maternity and sanitary pads, you just don't know what will be comfy and what level of flow you'll get until after.
Good luck Thanks

whitehalleve · 18/04/2019 19:04

Large black M&S granny knickers. I got a pack of 5 or 7 . the best tip I had was to buy them two sizes bigger than you need.

JimJamJarmusch · 18/04/2019 20:00

I had a planned section, and big, black granny pants from Primark two sizes bigger than usual were perfect. (You probably don't two sizes bigger if you have a vaginal delivery.)

JimJamJarmusch · 18/04/2019 20:01

*probably don't need two sizes bigger

waterlego · 18/04/2019 20:04

Same. Just massive black ones 😬

Fuppy · 18/04/2019 20:40

Thank you for all the fantastic advice! I wouldn't have known or thought about getting larger sizes.

Black granny pants/boxers it is! I may just get a packet of each type mentioned Grin

I got the humongous, cotton granny pants from M&S. So comfy!

foggydown · 18/04/2019 21:12

I done something a bit different, I used incontinence pants with maternity pad in.
I really didn't want to ruin my bed sheets and it worked. Then after first couple of days I went in big black pants from primark.

whatkindofspring · 18/04/2019 21:20

I didn't get on with the big pants after the birth of DD1, lady nappies were much more comfortable for the first week and then after that I went back to wearing normal comfortable knickers with pads.

IM0GEN · 18/04/2019 23:36

Just to want you OP, if you have a vaginal delivery you will probably bleed a lot. I was told it would be like a period. It was NOTHING like a period for me. I would soak though a heavy duty pad in an hour or less for the first week or two. I had to sit on an old towel on the sofa while BF the baby. And I had a cover on the mattress.

Then it was like an incredibly heavy period for another 4-5 weeks. This is normal acording to the MW ( I asked because I was so shocked ).

I found it grim and very hard to manage and keep my stitches clean and be constantly BF.

They tell you to Wash every time you change a pad and dry with a hairdryer without explaining how you can do this while you are pouring blood all the time.

It’s usually a lot less if you have a CS. And your stitches and the bleeding aren’t in the same place IYSWIM so easier to manage.

Sorry it’s all a bit gross but I wish I had known, I’d have been better prepared .

mrsk28 · 19/04/2019 06:54

Black full briefs from Primark. I'm 8 days postpartum and have found them and boots maternity pads great. I bought 8 pairs of the knickers in a size large (I wear size 8-10 pre pregnancy) and found them perfect.

Also stock up on painkillers so you have plenty for when you're home.

Celebelly · 19/04/2019 06:57

Definitely full briefs. I had an emergency section and the boy short knickers I had packed sat exactly where my wound was so DP was dispatched to supermarket to buy some big pants. I'm still wearing them nine weeks on so they don't rub against scar.

ijustcannotdoit · 19/04/2019 07:11

Tena lady incontinence pads. The best and only option! You can thank me later Grin

ijustcannotdoit · 19/04/2019 07:11

*knickers

stucknoue · 19/04/2019 07:12

Ordinary cotton ones were fine (mid rise) and I used always nights rather than the thick pads which worked fine (used hospital pads for first 12 hours)
