Did you scream during labour?

I'm wondering how often women scream in labour - did you scream during labour?

OP posts:
EugenesAxe · 24/03/2019 23:23

No. I don't think there's ever a situation when you need to scream because of pain - it's a danger response in my mind. When I broke both bones in my arm at the wrist I went "Ow, oww...." and quietly cried. I think that screaming people are the kind who need everything to be about them.

Shouting in anger, swearing, groaning - I would consider all these very normal and understandable during labour.

Interesting. I think the kind of person who judges how another woman gives birth is a massive twat (and no, I didn't scream, but I still think you're a twat)

whohaa · 24/03/2019 23:32

I screamed like I've never screamed before.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 24/03/2019 23:36

Why do you ask OP?

Osquito · 24/03/2019 23:37

I roared Blush, I think that is the closest to what I sounded like.

AhhhHereItGoes · 24/03/2019 23:40

Like many pp's I didn't scream but did make a lot of panting, grunting, mewing, growling sounds.

I basically attempted to imitate the entire animalkingdom.

Strokethefurrywall · 24/03/2019 23:47

Mooed all through my hypnobirth with DS1.

DS2 I snored because I was asleep. Woke up to push and he was out in 3.

No screaming but I suspect that's because I had easy deliveries.

Samind · 24/03/2019 23:52

Laughing and relating to all the mooing comments 😂😂😂

coddersrodders · 24/03/2019 23:54

Yes with my first because I was panicking

Onceuponacheesecake · 24/03/2019 23:58

Just one screamy yelp. I remember the pain building and it started to sting ALOT and the MW said that's just his head so i assumed I was crowning because I knew it was supposed to sting. But he must not of been quite there at that point and shifted slightly and I had a really holy fuck moment where I screamed yelped at the burn. I remember thinking, oh no ... THIS is crowning. It passed quickly.

Mother87 · 25/03/2019 00:04

Lots of moaning and mooing here too... I DO remember 'seeing stars' during DC3's crowningGrin

thefirsttimer · 25/03/2019 00:20

Moo 🙋🏻‍♀️

TheSheepofWallSt · 25/03/2019 00:25

Mooed in the early stages.
Roared when he wasn’t shifting in the early part of the second stage and I was pushing rather hard.
Made the “mmmppppphhhhhrgggggggooooooarrrghhh” sound when I pushed him out.

Felt very powerful at all times 😬

AwakeNow · 25/03/2019 00:52

No, I did not. But I screamed a few times with severe back spasms.

pasbeaucoupdegendarme · 25/03/2019 01:03

Yes with my first, once, and was roundly told by the midwife that “that was enough of that”!
With my second I mooed a lot... as I did with my third, who I delivered this afternoon (yesterday afternoon now, I guess!).

Roxyxoxo · 25/03/2019 01:08

Not while dialating, yes while attempting to push but turns our baby was back to back and just had paracetamol as the gas and air mouthpiece had a leak. As soon as I had the spinal I stopped though Grin I wasn’t expecting the noise to achieve anything, but I couldn’t help it.

WatcherOfTheNight · 25/03/2019 01:11

Why are you wondering @PSL1990 ?
Did you?

FoxFoxSierra · 25/03/2019 05:34

What a cuntish thing to say newaccount Shock

I screamed a lot with dc1 but that was because I was absolutely fucking terrified and the midwives were being shit rather than the pain. With dc2 it was a weird growling noise and lots of swearing but no screams

FoxFoxSierra · 25/03/2019 05:39

Sorry newaccount it wasn't you that said it was it?! Blush sorry it was Eugenesaxe with the cuntish comment! Btw I couldn't give a flying fuck what anyone considers to be an acceptable way to behave in labour but some women would be really upset to read that so maybe keep your nasty judgemental thoughts to yourself in future

ICJump · 25/03/2019 05:51

Eugenesaxe I screamed. DD1 went from not being engaged to being out in 18 minutes. I was fucking terrified and it fucking hurt as her hear rate was dipping and I had a midwives hand up my fanny trying to tickle her head to get her out.

hazeyjane · 25/03/2019 06:41

That is one of the most stupid things I have read on here.

The last time I heard proper screaming was when my ds burnt his leg .... he screamed for the hour and a half he was in the shower waiting for the ambulance to arrive, he screamed whilst nurses removed the blisters....maybe he was making the whole thing about him, or maybe it just hurt like the fucking devil and screaming is a perfectly normal response to agony.

ellesbellesxxx · 25/03/2019 06:45

I didn’t make any noises, but I was concentrating on my breathing. I got annoyed when people wanted to talk 😂

Cannyhandleit · 25/03/2019 06:46

No as I had a section but I was kept in the hospital for a week afterwards and as it was a heatwave all the windows were open and everyday I heard very loud labours!

cocomelon23 · 25/03/2019 06:46

I didn't make any noise at all.

MrsMozartMkII · 25/03/2019 06:48

Definitely screamed with my first. Midwife, who hadn't been through labour, told me to be quiet as I'd scare the others. She was ignored. I wasn't screaming for the sheer hell of it!
