Waters have gone - now it's a waiting game...

My waters went with a gush in the early hours of this morning. We went up to the hospital, they monitored me and baby and have sent us home to wait.

So far nothing much has happened - hardly any more waters have leaked and all I can say is that I am mildly uncomfortable with sporadic strong Braxton Hicks contractions....

I have to go in tomorrow morning to be induced if nothing else happens by then - I really don't want to be induced, any ideas how to get labour going naturally (no sex coz of infection, tried ball etc).

All so exciting

go shopping

MUMINAMILLION · 03/09/2004 13:45

Congratulations - will be biting my nails for you. I found walking about really helped - every time I sat down everything stopped. Maybe it will help you. How exciting!!!!!

muddaofsuburbia · 03/09/2004 13:45

I mentioned this on Oliveoil's thread - it worked for me: late night shopping and a full family size KFC bucket (and sex - but not for you I guess )

emmatmg · 03/09/2004 13:46

SHOPPING SHOPPING SHOPPING SHOPPING.

and not of the Tesco/sainsburys variety. Get Dh to treat you to something really nice.
You'll deserve it once little dejags arrives

Had exactly the same with DS. Waters went on the Monday night and nothing happened until the wednesday morning when they induced me and after 3 hours he was there!! Home at tea time to show him off to DD I know exactly how you feel but there are benefits in that you know that the baby will be here VERY soon and so you can plan and make arrangements if you have other children. I used the time to sort out stuff in the house and to make a freezer full of food for us as I didn't fancy dribbling my way round shops, besides I found the bump was very low and uncomfortable to walk never mind about concentrating on spending!! Wishing you all the best. [smile}

poppyseed · 03/09/2004 13:49

That should have been !!

Blu · 03/09/2004 13:54

Dejags! Walk about, fiddle with your nipples - and don't worry - it'll all happen v soon. Dinosaur posted in exactly the same position, didn't she? And then it all happened v quickly and smoothly.

And isn't this the very day you were worried about because your neighbour / friend has been invited to a party???? RING HER NOW!

Dingle · 03/09/2004 14:07

No experience here, waters only broke in the very late stages of labour with both of mine.
Only old wives tales; nipple tweeking!! eating a curry!!
pref. not at the same time but who knows?

Dingle · 03/09/2004 14:08

Congrats, by the way.

jampot · 03/09/2004 14:15

Good luck dejags!!

dejags · 03/09/2004 14:15

Blu - weired isn't it, I just had a sixth sense it would happen sometime tomorrow. Luckily said friend has gotten quite into the whole thing and is probably more excited than I am. She took DS to the childminder this morning when we went up to the hospital amd says she will skip the party tomorrow night.

Keep thinking to myself he'll come when he is ready - I just hate being bed-bound and being induced with the drip means contstant monitoring...

will keep you posted...

Oooh, I'm so excited!!! I'll be checking this all night now!

My only tip is walking/shopping - just keep moving as it does tend to slow down if you sit or lie down.

Really hope everything goes well for you and you don't have to be induced - GET WALKING!!

Also, those mildly uncomfortable BH can very quickly turn into proper contractions and you won't know what's hit you - it could happen really quickly so don't stray too far from home!

GOod luck!!!!!

mears · 03/09/2004 15:22

I would just chill Dejags and try and get some rest. Make sure you eat throughout the day and evening. Do not exhaust yourself marching around trying to get contractions going. That is only helpful when you are actually in labour. You can opt to wait a couple of more days if you really do not want to be induced. As long as your temperature is normal, the water remains clear and the baby is moving, you can wait 72 hours before needing to go on a drip.
Most likely thing to happen is you will start having contractions in the early hours of the morning. Go to bed early . Good luck.

Blu · 03/09/2004 15:35

Pleased to hear that your friend is at hand - all very exciting.

We'll be thinking of you and willing all our best thoughts your way. Smiles and hugs meanwhile.

(and thank you Mears - I knew I was a hopeless ante-natal class student, re the walking about!)

cazzybabs · 03/09/2004 15:43

Good luck - ahhh the September thread is really getting going.

hester · 03/09/2004 15:54

Very exciting news, dejags. Best of luck, and keep us posted

dejags · 03/09/2004 16:16

Thanks Mears - exactly what I needed to hear - went for a short walk a little while ago and waters have started going again - not much in the way of contractions though...

Thanks for your positive vibes everybody...

ooooooo, dejags, very excited for you!!!! Hope all goes well!

midden · 03/09/2004 17:10

You can wait til monday to be induced if you want. Birth will be so much easier if the cue comes from baby......don't worry about infection you will be more at risk of picking one up in hospital!!!! Best of luck dejags take it easy and enjoy!!

Hulababy · 03/09/2004 17:19

Good luck delags!

good luck dejags - I'm sending out pain-free birth vibes across the water for you!

sportyspice · 03/09/2004 19:50

oooohhhh how exciting!! I remember a midwife telling me to rock my hips from side to side to try and encourage baby to want to head down south! I expect you're very excited but do try and get some sleep as i always went into full blown labour in the early hours.
