Did anyone enjoy Childbirth?

I had my son a month ago and it wad the best and most amazingist experience in my life.

My waters broke and contractions were every 3 minutes by the time I got to the hospital. A midwife took me into an evaluation room and said I wasn't in labour and it was only the baby pushing into my bum as he was back to back.
I lived half an hour away and paid £45 on a taxi so I refused to leave.
I was put in the induction ward and was shouting In pain while everyone else was sitting on their phones waiting to be induced, I was refused painkillers other than paracetamol as I forgot my maternity notes and they were convinced I wasn't in labour.

I eventually was allowed a bath but when I could barely walk back to my bed after due to the pain, a nurse wanted to examine me to double check.
Turns out I was in labour and was 2cm
After being put on the labour ward 8 hours later and given gas and air I didn't really progress much, I was put on a drip to make the contractions come on more.
It took a few hours but finally made progress and got to 6cm.

My blood pressure started rising so I had to get an epidural to stablise it, I never felt any effects of it an hour later so after checking the tube the midwife discovered an air bubble so had to get it all redone.
22hours of labour and 2 hours of pushing my son got stuck, I was told I needed forceps, I pushed so hard while the Dr was getting ready and I managed to get him out, needed and episiotomy but it was so worth it.

Sorry for the long post but despite the long labour and the complications, I still loved every minute of it and would do it again in a heartbeat. I can't wait to give birth again!
My partner on the other hand would like at least a good few years before he has to go through it again haha!'
Was anyone else the same? Xxx

Yes, I did. It was very exciting. However, compared to what I've heard from others, mine was not long or particularly painful (and I had no drugs). So I was fortunate.

elliejjtiny · 17/12/2018 18:20

Loved my births with dc1 and dc3. Not my others though.

ChanklyBore · 17/12/2018 18:27

I loved it. I’m very sad I don’t get to do it again. It was undoubtedly the best high I have ever had. With my first birth, I had no idea I would feel like that, not a clue that after the baby was born I would feel like I was walking on air. The odd thing was it had nothing much to do with the baby, I mean I liked the baby, but it was more an achievement feeling. Like coming out of an exam and getting an instant 100% result plus being really high on some awesome substance.

Blinking great. I was looking forward to that bit so much with my next birth and there it was again. The feeling I imagine you get on scaling Everest. Just awesome.

I imagine nature made it that way to keep us doing it. It didn’t work on me because you have to be pregnant first and I hated that. Adding a whole other dimension to the post birth high, the sudden realisation that you aren’t pregnant. And that you can breathe, sleep, move for the first time in months. Phew. All emotional now, OP. Yes I loved giving birth and I would do it again and again.

Enjoy might be too strong but it was fine, didn't really hurt any more than a stomach ache

EllenRipley · 17/12/2018 19:07

Fucking horrendous. Hard and fast labour (I screamed non stop for 16hours), emergency c-section, terrible aftercare (turned out that after 4 days the morphine pump they'd given me wasn't working (That's one of a long list of things...) all followed by a nice dose of PND and a uterine infection. I now actually understand what a flashback is because I had them for about 3 weeks afterwards.

Mind you, got a great wee DS out of it 😬

moonfacebaby · 17/12/2018 19:11

I enjoyed the gas and air and getting to finally meet my baby.

As for everything else, absolutely not. Pain, hospitals, lack of privacy - just about my idea of hell.

Neverunderfed · 17/12/2018 19:13

#1 and #2 not really, exciting I guess. #3 I kind of did because I felt way more in control. It hurt like buggery obviously.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 17/12/2018 19:17

#1 yes - after the epidural
#2 oh god no it was terrible
#3 yes - back to back, drug free, hurt like hell and was amazing
#4 was so quick that I felt like I'd cheated so only sort of Smile
There will be no #5, which is something I'm a bit sad about, but glad to be done with pregnancy, as I get older it's been harder on my body

scrivette · 17/12/2018 19:19

Yes I enjoyed it (quick births though) and was disappointed when DC3 had to be a c-section, however, I enjoyed that too (not so much the pain afterwards from the section though).

It was the way my body seemed completely on control and I was in my own little world concentrating on my breathing.

DrWhy · 17/12/2018 19:29

Yep, DC1 was already 3cm+ dilated at a sweep the day before with no contractions then 12 hours, laboured mainly at home, arrived at maternity unit and left for a while over shift change (with my agreement). Found to be 6cm and got in the pool, baby 45 mins later. Stitching and later healing less fun.
DC2, 3 hours from first twinge, 6 minutes in the midwife unit, 4 pushes - didn’t get to the pool! No pain relief. Felt like a total hero!
Not having any more and I know I was very fortunate- although I would absolutely recommend hypnobirthing to anyone. The techniques helped keep me calm and relaxed even when stuck in traffic on the way to hospital 2nd time round.

imamearcat · 17/12/2018 19:44

DD1, no, wasn't too bad but found it quite frightening at the time. So did DH lol.

DS1, much better and less scary. Look back on that much more fondly (got to the hospital at 7am and was home for lunch!)

itallhappensforareason · 18/12/2018 17:23

Unfortunately not. Worst and most traumatic time of our lives.

YoureAMeanOneMrGrinch · 18/12/2018 17:28

Yes. I was only in hospital 8 hours from being admitted to him being born. It was very painful, I had an epidural that didn't take down one side and required an episiotomy and forceps delivery which I really didn't want. Then after the birth I started blacking out and vomiting but I still think I had a good birth experience and it hasn't put me off.

tryingtobehave · 18/12/2018 17:34

It was my proudest moment of my life. I often think back at the wonder of it all.

jessstan2 · 18/12/2018 17:42

Yes, I enjoyed giving birth, it was a lovely experience but I was quite determined to do it my way, didn't go into hospital until labour was well underway and it didn't take long after that. No drugs. I had a small episiotomy afterwards which was stitched and healed well.

However, giving birth is not the only thing. I adored my baby but felt like death for months afterwards and could hardly bear to go out. That was quite frightening. So I never feel complacent about my easy birth.

Yes, including my first one which was 24 hours. It was similar to a bike race or run, you’re sort of hating it at the time but it’s also amazing with that huge sense of achievement.
I’d choose labour rather than pregnancy any day.

ILoveCrunchyAutumnLeaves · 18/12/2018 17:50

Yes, I had an epidural was sneakily eating quality street and watching tv most of the day did a 25 minute push and baby was born.

Boredboredboredboredbored · 18/12/2018 17:54

First one no way.

Ds yes absolutely. Was induced over Xmas, was very quiet and relaxed. Birth was only painful for the last 10 minutes of pushing then he was out.

I only had a year between my two so was dreading it but ds was a dream birth!

RoseReally · 18/12/2018 17:54

Fuck no. Although the day before I gave birth was worse than the day of the birth. Not looking forward to doing it again Sad

PhoenixBuchanan · 18/12/2018 17:58

Yes I enjoyed my second labour and birth, and wish I could relive it. It was the most awesome experience of my life (in the real sense of the word awesome).

LGFuad · 18/12/2018 18:31

Yep, I loved it. So much so that when I got home the day after she was born I cried because it was all over Hmm

I will never take it for granted, though, I know full well how lucky I am

AlwaysChangingNamesAgain · 18/12/2018 18:37

I had two amazing experiences, and I'd love to do it one more time Grin
