Did anyone enjoy Childbirth?

I had my son a month ago and it wad the best and most amazingist experience in my life.

My waters broke and contractions were every 3 minutes by the time I got to the hospital. A midwife took me into an evaluation room and said I wasn't in labour and it was only the baby pushing into my bum as he was back to back.
I lived half an hour away and paid £45 on a taxi so I refused to leave.
I was put in the induction ward and was shouting In pain while everyone else was sitting on their phones waiting to be induced, I was refused painkillers other than paracetamol as I forgot my maternity notes and they were convinced I wasn't in labour.

I eventually was allowed a bath but when I could barely walk back to my bed after due to the pain, a nurse wanted to examine me to double check.
Turns out I was in labour and was 2cm
After being put on the labour ward 8 hours later and given gas and air I didn't really progress much, I was put on a drip to make the contractions come on more.
It took a few hours but finally made progress and got to 6cm.

My blood pressure started rising so I had to get an epidural to stablise it, I never felt any effects of it an hour later so after checking the tube the midwife discovered an air bubble so had to get it all redone.
22hours of labour and 2 hours of pushing my son got stuck, I was told I needed forceps, I pushed so hard while the Dr was getting ready and I managed to get him out, needed and episiotomy but it was so worth it.

Sorry for the long post but despite the long labour and the complications, I still loved every minute of it and would do it again in a heartbeat. I can't wait to give birth again!
My partner on the other hand would like at least a good few years before he has to go through it again haha!'
Was anyone else the same? Xxx

No, can't say I was, sorry.

MouseRatFan · 19/11/2018 19:01

No.

IRememberSoIDo · 19/11/2018 19:04

I did because on both pregnancies I had hyperemesis. On my youngest I was still sick after labour for nearly two days. I was so happy it was almost over. I had two fairly easy labors and deliveries which I feel I deserved after rotten horrible pregnancies. Congrats on your new arrival.

flowerandflower · 19/11/2018 19:06

I found it amazing

WoodyOak · 19/11/2018 19:14

I'm with you OP. I feel like I had a traumatic experience and it took me over a week to think clearly. I was induced twice. Got to 9.5cm then baby was stuck. They tried forceps but I ended up having an emergency c section. All that took 6 days and sleeping (or not sleeping!) in hospital was awful. I went through all the pain of labour to end up being cut open. Could hardly move with the pain for days. I was really emotional and hormonal. Sometimes, now, I think about those early days and how I was crying and I cry again because I feel sorry for myself - almost like I'm sympathising for a different person! However, I have the most beautiful baby now so it was all worth it. But I'm NEVER doing it again!

Ilovealexa · 19/11/2018 19:16

I did.

Choccywoccyhooha · 19/11/2018 19:26

Yes both my second and third births were amazing. Second was an unassisted home birth, in my bathroom on my own, as the midwife couldn't get three and he came very quickly. I was on a high for days, the cocktail of natural hormones is really quite something.
Third birth i was all ready for another homebirth but I felt her move back-to-back and wanted to go into hospital by my own choice and not in an emergency if she got stuck (as my first child did). Despite being back to back she arrived without assistance half an hour after I arrived in hospital and we were home three hours later.

My first was pretty traumatic, but I did a lot of reflecting on it and I was far better equipped mentally for the other two. I'm not sure if the fact that with number 1 I had pethidine, but no pain relief or interventions with the orders meant that I was more able to listen to my body and enjoy the experience more, but maybe.

I am sad that I won't be giving birth ever again. It's the best feeling in the world, but three is enough children for us.

donajimena · 19/11/2018 19:27

I enjoyed the pethidine Grin I was off my tits.

PetuliaBlavatsky · 19/11/2018 19:30

I loved giving birth each time. Such a primal, wonderful feeling. I'd take childbirth every day over pregnancy.
I did have very very short labours and easy deliveries though!

SnuggyBuggy · 19/11/2018 19:31

I was absolutely off my face and once the epidural was in it didn't hurt. Had syntocin drip but I slept through a lot of it and wasn't impressed when told I was fully dilated.

Postnatal period was traumatic for various reasons

Ohyesiam · 19/11/2018 19:32

Wow op, you are amazing!
I know what you mean, I enjoyed my second birth, but was very frightened in my first.

beefchowmein · 19/11/2018 19:41

No, although I found I felt more positive straight after the experience as it hadn’t really sunk in. As time progressed I felt more distressed about it. I think sometimes you can be in a daze from the pain and/or drugs that you don’t really process what is really happening, bad treatment, embarassing and undignified bits etc. I think a lot of women stay in that mindset and don’t actually really think about the reality of what happened, I think maybe we’d all have a different view if we watched our births back as a bystander?

That said I do think a positive birth experience is very possible and some women do like/enjoy it! Each to their own.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/11/2018 19:43

No, worst day of my life.

NoParticularPattern · 19/11/2018 19:46

It was ok. I’d do it again in a heartbeat but I wouldn’t say I felt like it was some sort of powerful spiritual thing like you hear some women talk about it. I got induced, I shouted a bit, pushed a bit and then got handed a baby. I guess the handed a baby bit was the part that makes me want to do it again. It wasn’t horrible, just ok.

Camsie30 · 19/11/2018 19:47

Yes. Loved it and am looking forward to doing it again in Feb!

fruityb · 19/11/2018 19:47

I loved it!! It was long, it was painful. It was fairly textbook for the longest and then I failed to progress and had an EMCS. I look back on it with nothing but happiness though! My husband was incredible, my son was born safe and healthy and I was very well looked after.

I had contractions for 26 hours, had my waters broken, diamorphine, a bath... nothing pushed me on and it just wasn’t happening so they put me for a section. I was terrified of having one but it happened and it wasn’t anywhere near as bad.

I don’t want another child purely for the fact I don’t have the energy for one - pregnancy and birth are not a factor at all.

RiddleyW · 19/11/2018 19:48

I loved mine. It was a wonderful experience.

I had a horrible next year though!

YesILikeItToo · 19/11/2018 19:48

Had it’s ups and downs, but I quite liked the way it was all about meeeeeeeeeeeee.

alfiesmam · 19/11/2018 19:50

Yes loved it on 2 & 3 as no drugs and my body knew what to do I was in such a high afterwards ! Hated contractions though

GoodnightMooncup · 19/11/2018 19:51

I quite enjoyed my second one, it was a water birth, short and not very painful. I deserved it though because my first was horrible Wink

redexpat · 19/11/2018 19:52

No and no.

Nicknamesalltaken · 19/11/2018 19:52

Yes. 4 text book births, 3 at home - I declared the last one ‘a piece of piss’ at the time.

I very much appreciate how lucky I am.

Mumof1andacat · 19/11/2018 19:53

No worse two days of my life hence user name

Potplant · 19/11/2018 19:55

Does a planned section count? It was great, I was slightly out if it on the drugs, they played 80s songs throughout and I finally met my babies. I wasn’t even that bothered about the students I said I didn’t want.
Hurt like a bastard afterwards, though.

If I was going to do it again, which I’m not I’d do the same.

VitaminSea · 19/11/2018 19:59

No. I thought I was going to die. (Not being dramatic, it got pretty serious) I enjoyed the morphine after my EMC though.
