How long did it take for your induction to work?

Hi ladies, I'm 37+3 with twins and in hospital atm waiting for my pessary to be induced! I'm just curious as to how long anyone else's induction took from start to finish? Obviously I know everyone is different but I'm just intrigued (plus reading about it may help pass the time 🙈)

Almost exactly 36 hours from pessary in to baby out. Nothing much happened until I had the drip though.

userabcname · 14/10/2018 09:19

I went straight onto a drip and it took several hours to kick in (I was expecting instantaneous painful contractions!) and even then things didn't really get going until they broke my waters (which had already broken hence the induction but apparently not fully). I think in total I was in labour for about 38 hours but th4 first few hours nothing really happened at all. Good luck!

fessmess · 14/10/2018 09:22

From first pessary to start of Labour about 12 hours. Once it starts it was very quick, 1.5 hours.

Noboozeforme · 14/10/2018 09:39

Number one @38 weeks = 20 hours

Number two @ 37 weeks = 4 days and a drip was used on the 4th day - which then took 6 hours.

No. 1
Induced 6 pm, pains around 2 am, DS born just after 10 am
No. 2
Induced at 10.15 am, DD born 11.30 am
Induction was NOT the nightmare that I was led to believe - both births made my eyes water Grin, but were not unbearable in my case.

dragonmummy17 · 14/10/2018 09:47

46 hours... inserted pessary and got mild contractions for 36 hours then they broke my waters and attached me to the drip to get it going properly. 6 hours of active labour once drip was attached and going

IlonaRN · 14/10/2018 09:52

Pessary inserted ~10am
I was in significant pain from 11am
Baby delivered by emergency caesarian @5am next morning, after I went from 8cm to 7cm dilated and baby was in distress and had started to turn.

1st baby 8 hours pessary to birth. 2nd was 3 days and a sweep was what finally did the job.

Good luck!

Induced at 40+12.
50 hours from first induction to birth.
3 pessaries, then drip.
Pains from about 10 hours in.
Didn't work for me though. On;y got to 2-3cm dilated and ended with a cs.
All was well with the baby though which was the main thing.

DD2 - 38 weeks (pre-eclampsia) - 60 hours total

  • pessary 1 inserted Wed morning 7.30 am and removed 10pm - no contractions, no pain
  • pessary 2 - repeated procedure Thurs - mild period type pains 8-10pm
  • Fri - status assessed - waters broken midday - no change - drip from 2pm - first contraction 2.30pm - baby out 7.30pm
Spudlet · 14/10/2018 10:05

The pessary went in at around 10am-ish, and contractions began at about 9pm-ish. DS made his appearance at 1440 the next day. I didn't need a drip although the midwife did break my waters shortly after I got to delivery suite (late morning? Maybe lunchtime? It's a bit of a blur at that point!) and that really got things moving at speed.

Good luck, hope you have those babies out soon!

Induced at 39 weeks from NHS dating scan (38 weeks true dates from IVF) due to baby being big. Started Monday 8am with first pessary and never got going so had section at 2pm on the Thursday, I did have loose bowels and cramps in my legs and bum a few hours after the first pessary so thought they were working but nothing else happened, although I did lose my plug the Thu morning so it may have had I waited. Good luck!

Baby #1: Induced at 39+6 pessaries inserted at 6pm, contractions started at 10pm (very mild) waters broke at 3am, baby born at 9.20am.

Baby #2: induced at 35+5 induced about 4pm, seemed to be ready to push after 2hrs, but she has a cervical lip (pushing through wall of cervix), so given pethidine. Eventually born at 01.50 so labour 8hrs.

Baby #3: induced 9.30. waters broken, baby born 12.50pm.

Lougle · 14/10/2018 10:25

Baby #3 was 38+5

Theseptemberissues · 14/10/2018 14:07

They broke my waters at 7:15pm, first contractions immediately after. 9cms by 11pm. Baby born by emcs at 12am

E20mom · 14/10/2018 14:18

2 hours

Twickerhun · 14/10/2018 14:23

6 hours start to finish, but I was in hospital for 3 hours before they started the process

Littlemissdaredevil · 14/10/2018 21:45

Waters broke at 38+0 and went in for induction at 38+1. Propess inserted and monitored for and hour. During the last 5 mins I start to get sharp period pains and contractions started shortly afterwards. Took 3 hours to get to 10cm. Then 2 hours of pushing (DD got stuck) followed by forceps in theatre. I was done and dusted in 6 hours

Verbena87 · 14/10/2018 21:51

About 17 hours from pessary to baby. Good luck!

CarrieBlu · 14/10/2018 21:53

From pessary to baby 19 hours.

MadameJosephine · 14/10/2018 22:07

I was induced with my first at 38+5. It took 2 days of pessaries to get my cervix to the point where they could break my waters but once they managed to do that he was born 7 and a half hours later

BlueBug45 · 14/10/2018 22:47
