Hi I woke up about 1.5 hours ago after tossing and turning in bed for an hour or so. I’ve been having excruciating back pain every 4-5 minutes in my lower back and sometimes in my hips. Not noticed any tightenings in my front just pain in my back. I have to breathe through the pain and can’t talk. Walking or lying down doesn’t make a difference to the pain.

Just took 2 paracetamol about 4.45 and just had a hot shower and didn’t have a pain for about 10 minutes but they have just started up again.

Has anyone suffered from SPD? I feel like this is too painful to be labour.. I’ve had irregular back pain for for the past 2 days after V&D. Also been having bloody show - or snotty mucus which is pink (bloody).

Trying to time the pains properly now. Would appreciate hearing others experiences. Kind of feels like a pressure like I need to go to the toilet but nothing happens when I go too.

Call your midwife. Doesn’t sound like spd it sounds like labour

KatnissMellark · 15/06/2018 05:32

Sounds like labour. Are you term?

NeverTooOldForAnything · 15/06/2018 05:34

Definitely call the midwife, it sounds like labour

Prusik · 15/06/2018 05:39

How far along are you? Word of advice... I ignored the pressure when needing to go to the loo. Sat on the loo for ten minutes or so. Midwife turned up 8 minutes before my son was born in the bathroom. Pretty incredible experience

jamoncrumpets · 15/06/2018 05:42

How far along? Could be early stage labour.

Bumpandus · 15/06/2018 05:47

I’m 31 weeks.

Just had a loose stool and now the pains are every 9-10 minutes but still as intense.

SPD for me was a constant ache/sharper pain if I did too much.
What you're describing sounds very much like labour. (I didn't fully appreciate that different people experience the pain in different areas until I talked to loads of other women. 1st time was also different to 2nd for me.)

iamnotgoogle · 15/06/2018 05:50

Just seen your update. I'd call your MAU now.

123bananas · 15/06/2018 05:51

Phone maternity triage now the number will be on your notes. It sounds like early labour.

coffeeagogo · 15/06/2018 05:51

It sounds like labour - I had all my pains in my back as both babies were back to back - call your midwife and good luck

countrygirl171 · 15/06/2018 05:51

I'd give medicom a call and see what they say. During my second labour, the pains were very much in my back.

Thishatisnotmine · 15/06/2018 05:53

Too painful for labour!?

But seriously, call your midwife/ hospital. Don't delay it, just call them

huha · 15/06/2018 06:02

Call the labour ward. You need to be assessed ASAP. This is how my labour started.

Bumpandus · 15/06/2018 06:02

Ok I will call them now seemed to have settled to every 5-7 minutes so will call in between. I’m really scared that this is it as the hospital they want me to deliver in is 2 and a half hours away!

They will try everything to stop you going into labour at 31 weeks, don't worry. Explain the distance and they may advise to go somewhere closer if you can.

Bumpandus · 15/06/2018 06:34

That is the closest hospital with neonatal unit(my baby has a condition so needs to go there even if born term).

My first little girl was born at 32 weeks but I felt tightenings in the front this is all in the back and don’t even think my stomach is going hard?
I was in preterm labour at 29 weeks this time at the hospital I need to be at - stopped it thankfully spent 5 days there had steroid injections etc. Will they still stop the labour?

huha · 15/06/2018 06:34

If you're having to wait until the pain stops to call you need to go in right now. Call on your way. Can someone drive you?

huha · 15/06/2018 06:35

Pain can be in front or back. Just because it's in the back doesn't mean it's not labour. Go in. Right now.

BertieBotts · 15/06/2018 07:18

They will try. Sometimes baby is persistent and insists on coming anyway. Have you called them yet? I think you need to be getting ready to go, getting childcare set up etc just in case. Fingers crossed they can keep it stalled for a few more weeks but if not - 31 weeks is better than 29. And you need to be in hospital ASAP especially if it's a long way. Is rush hour likely to be a problem? I wonder whether it would actually be better to call an ambulance. You can't have a 31 week baby in the back of a car.

As other posters said if your baby is back to back you'll feel the contractions in your back and legs, not your front.

loveisland · 15/06/2018 07:30

Have you got someone that can take you? Ring triage and head off this doesn't sound right and they need to see you straight away!

Bumpandus · 15/06/2018 09:19

Hi I’m on labour ward 3cm dialated with bulging waters contractions every 2 mins but can only feel them in my back. I have to give birth in my local hospital and we will be transferred after the birth to the specialist hospital. Wish us luck I’m about to meet my second premature baby girl and I am so scared!

Good luck. I had this - it's called "back labour". Glad you've made it to Hospital, hope it all goes well xx

SparklySeashell · 15/06/2018 09:25

Good luck OP! Thanks

Torvi · 15/06/2018 09:28

I'm glad you got to the hospital. Best of luck Thanks

BertieBotts · 15/06/2018 09:29

I'm sure you're in good hands! Better to be in any hospital than stuck in traffic. They will be able to stabilise DD2 in order to transfer her for the best care.

Good luck and I hope everything goes as smoothly as it can. Great that you had the steroids last week too.

At least you'll have some stories to tell your girls later about how impatient they are :)
