i write this on my hands and knees, arse in the air.. have let dp have a kip as he couldnt keep his eyes open and I figure he has to drive at some point..

started getting contractions at 0130 Monday morning - very exciting - they were coming nice and regular, every 8 mins or so and things were looking good. Its my first and I was due saturday so sunday night/monday morning was too good to be true. Carried on until around 6am monday when I managed to drop off. woke at 9am and they had all but stopped, so was slightly gutted, but pleased I had got some rest. Warm baths, TENS etc all helped greatly. Started again Monday afternoon but didnt get the regularity, they varied greatly from 5mins to 20 mins.. went to M&S, had baths, massages, bopping around kitchen etc etc. Then my god it started hurting. Got more and more regular and then at 3am this morning I went from every 6 mins to every 2 minutes, so after an hour of very intense pain every 2 mins decided to go into hospital only to be sent home again as I was only TWO BLOODY CMs.

Have been home since 5am, been in bath and taken co-dydramol, and thankfully the bath slowed them right down and I slept for 30mins, but im SO TIRED i dobt know what to do, cant bear this pain much longer, scared really that im going to cave in and ask to be admitted and given whatever drugs they farking have...

i know no one will have a miracle cure for me, but please send me some nice opening vibes, this is driving me mental. Ive kind of given myself til midday, and if i cant take it much longer I am thinking about handing myself over for pethidine.

and breath.

If you go in tonight and they decide to let you stay even if there's not much progress dh will be sent home....

Have you got stairs? Go up and down them sideways. it's supposed to help with getting baby manouvred...

Listen to your body, if contractions tail off, get some sleep, You'll most likely be woken up with some biggies!

TENS, turn dial down so that you can barely feel the tingling, if it's annoying you then it must be on too strong.

Go for a nice walk in the sunshine, scare the local shopkeeper!

mrsmalumbas · 22/05/2007 11:37

Agree with Klaw, you need a break and take your mind off it - can you do something to get you out of the house, a walk, a swim, visit a friend, go to the park - it's a lovely day! Even if you have to stop and breathe through your contractions. A friend of mine spent most of her (long) first labour walking round IKEA - it was cool in there and she could stop and sit down if she felt a bit odd. Then come home, have something to eat - and sleep!! A dark room can help, maybe a shower or bath, lots of pillows. Even better if someone can come over and give you a nice back or foot rub and put fresh sheets on the bed. A big glass of wine can help although maybe not with the co-drydamol. You're doing beautifully, it's your first baby, the first 3cm always take the longest, as lulu says it's all progress, you can't progress backwards in labour. Hang in there, and remember your baby will be here soon. xxx The Mumsnet doulas are with you in spirit!

The hospital sent me home as i wasnt even dilated, surely not, with all the pain i was in had.No sooner home about an hour later waters went, rushed back in and an hour later 9lb 2oz son..good luck..

RedKennedy · 22/05/2007 12:20

thanks mrsm, but as much as Id like to go out for a walk (how I wish we had a garden) the pain is so intense that I really have to get down to it, be that crawling or doing a strange hippy dance or some good running on hte spot that just came in handy - and I cant see me doing that in the mean streets of Harlesden.. they are 5 mins apart again and fuckign painful.
cant believe how this morning has flown by, it seems only a minute ago it was 5am and I was being sent home. Im feeling much more confident that I can do this without turning myself in for the drugs.
thanks again everyone.
come on baby

Hey there - well that's good, shows that things are progressing. That's good!

Do you have anyone with you?

Remember to try and eat if you can, some toast maybe or a bit of soup, keep going to the loo as a full bladder can get in the way, and do try and rest as much as you can - hard I know when ctx are 5 mins apart but make yourself as comfy as possible and then maybe you can doze off or just relax inbetween. Keep your breathing nice and slow, let your jaw and mouth be nice and soft, and drop those shoulders! Breathing out with a big slow whooof can really help you relax and stay loose and limp.

When your ctx are regularly a minute long or more, you are more than likely in active labour and that's fantastic.

Good luck. XXX
