Disposable knickers?!

Tealer81 · 17/04/2018 10:07

First time pregnancy and actually never planned on having children so I knew very little before all this - I'm about to start packing my hospital bag now I'm 27 weeks pregnant and wondered what everyone's thoughts on disposable kickers are post partum?

What are they like? Any better brands I should buy? On a tight budget so looking to get as much value for money as poss!!

Any advice would be amazing. 😊

I shouldn't bother, just get a couple of packets of the cheapest cotton knickers from Asda, they'll be comfier and probably same sort of price.

moreshitandnofuckingredemption · 17/04/2018 10:15

Oh and good luck!

Kirta · 17/04/2018 10:19

I just bought cheap cotton pants. I did send my husband out for maternity pads when I had my first, and he came back with adult nappies! Stocking up myself this time Grin

Cheap cotton pants. But if you have a C section then jojo Maman Bebe sells these mesh knickers which I wore over my wound and then put my granny knickers over that.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 17/04/2018 10:23

*Kirta like when I asked DH to bring in leggings to go home in, and he turned up with skinny jeans! That was painful with post-birth tummy! Shock

callies · 17/04/2018 10:24

Giving birth is brutal. You need something soft there. Get some cheap pants and chuck them.

Jozxyqk · 17/04/2018 10:29

Couple of packs of cheap cotton granny pants - the massive ones - were the best option IMO. In black. Chuck away when you've stopped bleeding.

The disposable ones are this weird sort of paper fabric, very easy to tear, & not stretchy or remotely comfortable. Also sweaty. And they rustle.

secretsciurusvulgaris · 17/04/2018 10:31

Just get the packs from M&S.

princesspeppax · 17/04/2018 10:34

l did have disposable ones after my section as they were bigger and higher up so sad above my scar Grin i personally thought they were a good thing to have in my bag

Kirta · 17/04/2018 10:35

@PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks oof! Skinny jeans! The perfect post partum outfit! Not! Grin

Ffswtf · 17/04/2018 10:36

Cheap cotton pants here too, dark colour joggers and flip flops. Also lots and lots of the biggest sanitary towels. I had no idea I might need them before the birth too. My waters broke v slowly and trickled constantly, I was changing the towel every half hour!

MrsDilber · 17/04/2018 10:47

You don't need disposable knickers. I thought the books I read were outdated 20 years ago, can't believe they're still pushing them.

Big pants if a woman has a caesarean are a god send, the bigger the better.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 17/04/2018 10:48

Yes Kirta, it was painful to say the least! DH was 24, and I don't think he quite understood!

scrivette · 17/04/2018 11:02

I used disposables for the first couple of days but they don't have much 'give' in them, I have always found you needs a size larger than you are.

Tealer81 · 17/04/2018 11:03

Thank you everyone! So flipping glad cotton knickers get the vote!! Ha.

Just normal pants will be fine

carrotpine · 17/04/2018 11:26

i bought the massive knickers to "throw away" after. 1 year later still wearing them Grin so comfy i can't let them go!

crazycatbaby · 17/04/2018 11:54

Massive "full briefs" from Tesco, in a size bigger. I ended up having a c section and they were high enough to be comfy. Still wearing them 18 months later 🙈

TheOrigRightsofwomen · 17/04/2018 13:30

My youngest son is 9 and I still wear my post partum Asda pants! Granted they are a bit scappy but sooo comfy!

BoofayTheOompaLoompaSlayer · 17/04/2018 14:18

I have both. Bought some disposable packs for the first couple of days and have bought cheap cotton pants too. Fourth baby and have always found the disposable briefs are handy for the initial blood loss. I've packed both in my bag so I can decide which to wear once I've given birth.

laelti · 17/04/2018 14:52

Primark black cotton briefs in the biggest size. 3 pack is £2. Mega comfy.
I bought a couple of packs, ended up throwing the first pair out pad still attached post birth. The rest have been washed and I still wear... (10 weeks post partum).

Doyoumind · 17/04/2018 15:01

I used disposables for the first couple of days. Following various procedures and being catheterised I could hardly move without wetting myself Blush It was nice to take them off and just fling them in the bin.

happymummy12345 · 17/04/2018 15:10

I got cheap full briefs in primark (in black for obvious reasons). I wasnt bothered about throwing them away after if i needed to (though I didn't).

Disposable ones are very uncomfy (hospital ones are at least). I had to have an op down there a few months after giving birth and I had to wear them, I hated it.

mommybear1 · 17/04/2018 15:16

Asda cheap knickers for £5 don't bother with disposable ones waste of money mine also came in v handy as I had a c section so giant pants were fab BlushGrin
