I have a bad vomiting phobia, I went through 2 pregnancies, 2 births without vomiting, didn't even feel sick at all whilst in labour.

Thanks for you replys everyone! I just keep hearing loads of horror story's so I'm gonna speak to my doctor about it Sad hopefully I surprise myself with how well I cope when I actually go into labour !! X

I find gas and air made me feel sick (nurse pressurised me into using it with DC1): will never use it again for that reason.

And don't eat sweet stuff. I found that was a bad idea.

Lovemusic33 · 26/01/2017 14:13

Yes, stay away from the gas and air, made me feel a bit dizzy x

savagehk · 26/01/2017 14:19

I didn't. I had gas and air with no side effects. I believe with that if you stop taking it side effects go away. Pethidine/diamorphine though, once they're injected if you're going to react you have to sit it out till it wears off.
Sounds like others have been given anti-vom drugs which sounds sensible for you.
Re eating in labour, i was cooking supper when labour started and ate it with no ill effects. I then nibbled on smarties though labour to keep blood sugar up but in small doses.

I was sick in two of my labours. One was due to morphine and possibly gas and air. The other was at the point of transition to 2nd stage which is quite common.

I have quite a fear of nausea/ vommitting but in both cases I didn't really feel sick, it was more a case of suddenly realising you are going to be sick. And because it was not in context of feeling generally unwell, and there was so much else going on I can't say it bothered me! Maybe consider asking for antiemetic if you are having opiates though.

Dontrocktheboat · 26/01/2017 14:21

Also absolutely did not want to eat in labour at all!

PollytheDolly · 26/01/2017 19:45

Thanks everyone for your replys!! I'm just so terrified of it I barley sleep! I constantly am giving myself a sore head thinking about it just so run amsown at the minute I just hope I surprise myself in the labour room!! X

Awww try not to worry about something that might not even happen. Hugs x

I had projectile vomiting whilst in early labour with DC1, but nothing with DC2. I also remember the day before having diarrhoea, like my body was having a clear out in preparation for the labour.

FartnissEverbeans · 28/01/2017 10:40

I thought I was going to at times but I didn't. Even though I had a massive roast dinner the night before!

Lovemusic33 · 28/01/2017 11:03

It actually takes a lot for a emetiphobe to be sick, chances are you won't be. I was worried about getting pregnant as I heard so many horror stories about morning sickness, I wasn't sick at all all through my 2 pregnancies, didn't feel sick at all during labour ( and I had a drug free birth with dd1 ).

Try not to worry about it as it probably won't happen. The fun starts when they start nursery and school and bring every bug under the sun home. I wasn't sick until dd1 brought home norovirus Sad.

tayloro123 · 01/02/2017 13:30

Thanks everyone for your replys !! Just trying to find peace of mind! Labour is scary enough never mind a phobia on top! Sad let's just hope I surprise myself and cope !! Xx

I didn't either time and no feeling of sickness either.

divadee · 03/02/2017 08:32

I wasn't sick at all in my first labour. I was with my second labour but I think that's cos I ate rice krispies half way through labour (it was a home birth and I got hungry!) And the dairy didn't go down well.
