When to go to hosp? WWYD?

I'm 41 weeks and it's my first.

I've been having contractions for around four hours (not v long).

They started at 45 seconds long and six minutes apart.

For the past two hours they are, on average, 58 seconds long and 3 minutes apart.

I know this is when I should go to the hosp, but I don't feel like it's time...

The contractions are not regular (sometimes every eight minutes, sometimes every minute and a half).

They are irregular strength (sometimes just a bit uncomfortable, other times genuinely painful).

They are irregular length (30-60 seconds).

They are very low down in my pelvis, which feels more like early labour (cervix opening) than later labour (squeezing baby down and out).

As an aside - my waters have not yet broken.

I've spoken to the midwife, she is happy to go with my lead.

I'm about 15 mins in a cab from the hosp.

WWYD?

You'd think I'd have a lovely bundle
of gorgeous by now, wouldn't you?

But no... I have a cervix which refuses to dilate over 3.5cm and hellish contractions which stop, almost completely the moment I get onto a hospital bed (having had to pause to contract six times between the foyer and the fourth floor).

I'm fucking furious. The moment I left, return of the gut wrenching lower abdominal pain which makes my eyes water, contractions which I can hardly breathe through.

I am SO pissed off Angry I am TERRIBLE at labour!

Just keep walking. I was the same with my first, hours of contractions doing nothing. Then went from 5cm to baby in an hour Wink

Oh no. I think you need to lay it on thick how exhausted you are- they can help move you along though maybe be reluctant.

Oh OP you poor, poor thing. 2 and a half days of contractions and still only 3.5cm. Honestly I think your hospital are being really unfair to you by not offering to admit you so you can get some decent pain relief, as you must be absolutely exhausted and so frustrated by now by not being able to sleep etc. At the very least I think they should consider giving you something to help you progress at this point. Hugs. This will end I promise, and you will have a gorgeous baby to hold at the end of it. xx

This happened to me to with my first labour. Going to the hospital stalled everything.

You need to retreat into a lovely woman cave of essential oil baths and dim lighting until the contractions have done their job of opening the cervix. Often labour gets going at night.

Try to rest and recuparate as much as possible now that the contractions have eased off a little then you will have the strength for the next phase.

Just read your thread, OP. V similar experience to both of my births. This was the longest, most hellish part. I was admitted and was given pethidine so I could get some sleep. I cared not about the contractions and it was a real relief. I wonder if the midwives discussed this with you? If memory serves me correctly, should you want pain relief, this can be administered at 4cms.

Oh no Thinkpinkstink, I was sure you were having the baby today.

Try and rest up as much as you can and maybe try and eat something light.
If you need to get in the bath get a flannel and wet it then place over your bump - it really helped ease my contractions (might have been in my head but I swear it worked!!)

Good luck x

This reminds me so much of my labour. Actually you know what, I was so calm and controlled for most of it and as soon as I let it all out and had a real rant about how unfair and horrible it was everything kicked off.

For me the pain never got much worse than the latent phase (and DD was badly positioned). So don't panic about that, it might not.

Also I know that walking etc is good for speeding it up but Tbh I think it did me no good at all because I was do exhausted afterwards that I can't even remember holding DD for the first time or any of the first 3-5 hours. I didn't have any pain relief so it wasn't that.

I say di whatever you feel like and have a good shout and cry if you want
