Anyone else who's having a vbac want to share info, stats, tips, ideas, feelings about it all? Or even just complain, rant, celebrate, share news & updates? It might be nice if there's a few of us out there going through the same thing. I don't know anyone in real life who's had a vbac at all!

Obviously if you've had a vbac and fancy posting stories, tips and encouragement, that would be amazing too!

Exciting trilottie!! Damn you

What will happen if no further progression? Do they have a time limit after your waters have gone?

Report
trilottie · 09/02/2017 15:36

They can give me till 1130 (24 hours after waters broke) and then they start discussing a small dose of syntocinon. And giving me antibiotics.
Thing is most of the contractions I have had have been so bleeding painful already I'm very worried! Lady opposite me on this ward unexpectedly got to 4cm within a couple of hours and was wheeled off to delivery, and I'd barely heard a peep out of her!

Everyone's different. I've been in for monitoring, contractions every ten minutes. Mild though. Good Luck!

Good luck all. I had a vbac dd1 induced, labour (agony) stuck, waters had broken so worry of infection 24 hr labour hell emcs.

Dd2 literally popped out at 35 weeks 5 hour labour natural birth. Your second labour can be very different to your first couldn't get my head round that until it happened to me!

Can I have one like yours please Kerala?! Midwife yesterday said head is down and engaged so might not make it to my elcs booked at 39 weeks. I'm 35+3 today! Good luck nottalotta!

Good luck to you all.

I had a vbac - first was breech, one foot down, so EMCS - went fine, if a little speedy!! Then told that as it was for a breech, not due to pelvic size etc, I would be fine with a vbac for my second, and I was.

Good luck Nottalotta and Trilotti, look forward to seeing your birth announcements soon! Kerala my experiences sound very similar to yours - DD (VBAC) born at 35 weeks, popped out in just 50 mins! (Though she did leave the placenta behind so it was off to theatre after all).

I've been lurking on this thread for weeks but just wanted to jump in and send positive vibes and lots of luck to nottalotta... I know how much you've agonised over vbac versus ELCS. And good luck to Trilotti too. Really hope it's all going well for you both.

I'm 37+4 and had my final appointment with the consultant yesterday when I also finally made the decision to go for the vbac. Eek, it's such a hard one isn't it? ELCS feels like a known quantity compared to the big unknown of natural birth. DD was a failed induction at 42 weeks with lots of complications, so I don't even know what it's like to go into natural labour. I'm analysing every twinge now, knowing this could go on for another month. Aaargh!

Gosh I wish something would happen here! Getting a bit desperate tbh as feeling pressure from the medical world to book inductions etc. I've just been looking at acupuncture for inducing labour in case baby's still not here nearer 42 weeks. Has anyone heard of it? Do you think it could work or am I getting a bit too desperate here?

Hope all is going well for those of you who are at hospital today!

Thanks monstamio I am beginning to regret the decision to try vbac tbh. I was scheduled for elcs Monday, would have had a baby and be at hone by now!

Anyway, just come in, fx they crackers on with it today!

Also thinking of Nottalotta and trilotti. Hope it's all going well.

How many weeks are you now Fabulososo? I have a feeling you have to start with acupuncture by about 36 weeks for it to be effective. But can't be sure.

Dc2 born this morning, 10lb 13.5!!!!!

Needed episiotomy and forceps in the end, narrowly avoided emcs but that was due to my medical .condition. Back to back too.

Hope things are well with trilottie!

Finally come back to update you all! @nottalotta hope you're ok too!
Waters broke late Wednesday night, contractions nice and regular but went into hospital and they just died off, so had to stay in the ward for 24hours waiting for them to start up again. Annoying everybody else in the ward with my occasional moaning through contractions, I only had my tens machine for pain relief! They didn't start up again so they started me on syntocinon very early on Friday morning (seemed very relaxed about giving me that, didn't mention going in for c section).
After a few hours on that with contractions slowly ramping up they checked and I was still only 4cm, so I admitted I couldn't cope any more, could I have an epidural please. Just as they we setting that up it all kicked off and I went from 4 to 10cm in half an hour and started pushing, too late for epidural! Omfg please let it be known if I ever want another baby please shoot me. Baby Alex born at 7am, had to stay in for 12 hours but did get home Friday evening. Have a second degree tear but I have to say it's so nice to be up and about so much quicker than after the CS.
Best of luck to everyone!

"I'd love an easy vbac but wonder how often it happens in real life"

Just popping by to say I have had two straightforward HBACs following a traumatic crash section under GA with my first DC. I had intermittent monitoring with a handheld doppler and even had a water birth for my second HBAC, which was great. I was a good candidate for VBAC as my section was due to foetal distress, so not a likely scenario to recur. I had no tears with DD2 but did give myself a tear with DS (born in December) as time was marching on and I wanted him out quickly before his sisters got up - gave a mighty push and he shot out but caused a bit of damage on the way. I didn't have the tear stitched and it healed by itself quickly afterwards.
If you had told me after the birth of DD1 that I would go on to have two quick, straightforward home births I wouldn't have believed it was possible. But it's true that every labour is different. I know I couldn't have coped with continuous monitoring (no mobile equipment at my local hospital so I would have been on a bed with restricted movement) as I need to be upright and mobile in labour. I was best off at home, I am only 10 mins from the maternity hospital and my midwife was not concerned that it was a high risk option for me - obviously the risk would depend on the individual. I didn't plan to have DD2 at home, but in the end I was happy at home, progressing well and it just happened (I had a midwife with me the whole time, it was not an unassisted labour). I planned a home birth with DS and used the pool mainly to contain the mess after staining my parquet with DD2(!)

fabulosososo despite it being a bit of an ordeal at the end, upbtil that point it was fine. I got some sleep over night with the drugs, and was surprised when they said I was 10cm and good to go. I had a stage when I thought I wasn't coping and there would be much worse to come, but turns out that was the transitional stage (I think it's called?) which is apparently the worst.

I'm glad I avoided the emcs in the end, and actually the labour wasn't too bad at all.

The issues came due to my medical condition, and a feckin massive back to back baby. But mainly my medical issue.

Nottalotta did u have the drip? or did they just break your waters and wait for contractions to start? I'm looking more and more likely to need an induction but I really don't know much about what your allowed with a vbac.
