Is a show always blood tinged?

Have had mild contractions all last night, just enough to wake me pretty much BH I'd have thought. Woke this morning to a very wet feeling. Almost like consistency of post coital fluid/blood, like that runny. It wasn't cervical fluid, no colour no discernable smell to note. Then a couple of minutes later I had another mild contraction and felt goop for want of a better word, when I wiped it away it was creamy/yellowy about the size of a small marble and very like snot/EWCM, ie stretchy.
I'm wondering if this is a partial show. I thought it had to be tinged with blood. Hope the runny liquid wasn't a bit of my waters.
What do you think? Maybe I should go check my cervix?

Sounds like you've lost your mucus plug - congratulations! Labour is on it's way - but not necessarily immediately, could still be a few days. Good luck!

sorkycake · 03/02/2007 10:39

Haha! YES!!
Off to rummage for cervix.

colditz · 03/02/2007 11:19

baby coming! Whoooooo!

lulumama · 03/02/2007 12:59

wow !! someone saw this before me !! please do on line labour

sorkycake · 03/02/2007 13:34

What d'ya reckon lulumama? Could it be the sex yesterday morning that started everything? Was the runny leak my waters, or maybe something else? I thought they gushed out all in one go.
I've never had my waters go at all before, always AROM, so have no clue what it's like? My sister says hers went like that.
Still getting nice gentle BH so very happy atm, also feel strangely very calm, that can't be good

erm.......... what does your cervix feel like?

i would just potter, keep going, do what you are doing...

you may have had a hindwater leak, which is not the same as your waters going, the leak can reaseal if labour does not start . i had one the day before i started in labour

your waters can go in a big gush or a trickle or start with a leak....

calm is fine...no need to run around hysterically!

you are having a homebirth, yes?

sorkycake · 03/02/2007 13:42

Yep, home waterbirth. Pool is cleaned, refilled and ready to go yesterday. M/w said a while back if my waters went I'd have to get that checked out at hospital, but Dh & I both agree that if I go they'll try their best to keep me there.
Due to see m/w in clinic on Wed, so will mention it then if no sign of bub in the mean time.
Will keep you updated if you want, is that what online labour meant?

lulumama · 03/02/2007 13:44

yes..unless you can be birthing and shouting at DH what to type as you push ! LOL!! i personally, would not go to get checked at this stage . you will only be sent home again...why do you think the hospital would keep you there?

sorkycake · 03/02/2007 13:45

Cervix was quite high up compared with the other day, about 2cm dilated and about 1 cm long, very squishy, and when I withdrew I had same snot-stuff all over lol, sorry, hope you're not eating

M/w said she would want me monitored or tested to check it was waters as they have a policy of only allowing you to go 36hours before hauling you in and poking about with drips etc.

lulumama · 03/02/2007 13:53

well, NICE guidlines clearly say you can go up to 96 hours before induction when the waters go, but if this is a leak , or not even a leak, then the clock won;t start ticking. you do not have to agree to be induced, if you do not wish to be and understand the implications.

evem if you go in to be checked, still another 3 days before they would want to do anything....

see how you go

sounds like a lovely ripe cervix !!

mrsmalumbas · 03/02/2007 16:47

If your waters had gone you'd know about it - it's quite a lot of fluid you've got in there! If it was just a gush, or if it is just leaking intermittently it's almost definitely a hindwater leak. That means the membranes in front of the baby's head are still intact - extremely low risk of infection. And as luluma (hi!) says, it could even seal itself up again.

But if you go and have a vaginal exam you run the risk of the midwife "accidentally" or otherwise rupturing the membranes and then the clock really will be ticking. Plus of course every time someone sticks their hand or anything else up your fanjo they are introducing bacteria. Hanging around at home and waiting for things to get going naturally might be a nicer option.

mrsmalumbas · 03/02/2007 16:50

PS I am impressed you can reach your own cervix - when pregnant I could never find mine!

sorkycake · 03/02/2007 17:25

goop still a comin', intermittent BH, not pokey. blimey this is sloooooow!
Oh and I can see 2 pointy little knees either side of my belly button, so he's OP right?

yes...walk up and down stairs sideways !! and keep upright and not on your back,if you want a lie down, lie on your left side.....remember to eat and drink too !

orangina · 03/02/2007 19:30

Blimey, I am 40 weeks tomorrow (#2) and have had more or less exactly what you described sorkycake.... a slightly sleepless night with contractions on thursday after a weepy day, followed by feeling I had perhaps had wet myself the following morning (labour started last time by waters breaking, knew it wasn't that, nothing like enough liquid), with all the accompanying goo. And again this morning. Hmm. Sounds as though it's imminent.... please keep us posted!

lulumama · 03/02/2007 20:58

fingers crossed for you too !

orangina · 03/02/2007 23:03

Thank you!

Hello - saw this thread & thought would seek advice. I am 39 + 4 today. Since friday night have had what I would consider fairly strong contractions (1st Baby so not sure what to expect!) every 1 - 2 hours, and mild crampy feelings in between. Contractions can last up to as much as 6 mins. Had mega one at 2.30 am and haven't been able to sleep since!
Also had mucus tinged browny red since Sat morning - not a massive amount but noticeable. I was expecting a show to be a large amount of gunk. Am I in early labour? If so I hope these contractions speed up and don't last quite so long each time - I was expecting 1 - 2 mins not 6!!

SELMUM · 04/02/2007 09:32

Since my last post - I think I am in labour. Contractions started proper about 5 am - started coming about every 25 mins but soon decreased to about every 10 mins and only lasting 1 -2 mins. Using TENS now and seems to be very good so far!

lulumama · 04/02/2007 09:39

sounds good !! you have certainly had a show and could well be in early labour...is the tens helping?

lulumama · 04/02/2007 09:39

if you have not had a great deal of sleep, try and rest a little, as if this is it...you could well be in for a busy afternoon!

SELMUM · 04/02/2007 11:48

TENS helped but maybe a bit too much as contractions now seem to have fizzled out some what
Still feeling period cramps & occasional contraction but nowhere near as regular as before. I was convinced that it was the real thing as they were every 10 - 12 mins for at least 2 hours. I then had shower (not too hot) and put the TENS on as the contraction I had before my shower was really intense. They appeared to be regular for a bit and then slowed right down. Would the TENS set on the gentle pulse (as in the instructions) mask the less intense contractions? Before I put the TENS on I was getting 2 or 3 contractions in a row that were okay - painful but easy enough to breath through - then I would get one really intense one which took my breath away.
As they seem to have slowed down should I take TENS off and see what happens?
Have managed to have bi weekly chat to Mum and Dad on telephone without letting on that things maybe moving - now gives me three days grace to produce a baby before I need to speak to them again!

lulumama · 04/02/2007 11:53

not sure re the TENS as no personal experience of using it...don;t be disheartened...all the contractions you are having all do something and have a role to play in the birth....just keep pottering about ,it is perfectly ok to have a day or two of this before labour kicks off.....that is part of the fun ! you just don;t know when it is going to happen ! eat and drink as you feel like, and rest if you need..just listen to your body and go with the flow
