Is a show always blood tinged?

Have had mild contractions all last night, just enough to wake me pretty much BH I'd have thought. Woke this morning to a very wet feeling. Almost like consistency of post coital fluid/blood, like that runny. It wasn't cervical fluid, no colour no discernable smell to note. Then a couple of minutes later I had another mild contraction and felt goop for want of a better word, when I wiped it away it was creamy/yellowy about the size of a small marble and very like snot/EWCM, ie stretchy.
I'm wondering if this is a partial show. I thought it had to be tinged with blood. Hope the runny liquid wasn't a bit of my waters.
What do you think? Maybe I should go check my cervix?

Thanks for that. Suppose just hoped today would be the day - it may well still be!
Will keep you posted.

you just never know !! try and keep busy if you can but don;t wear yourself out. and you will know when it is time....! a walk maybe?

SELMUM · 04/02/2007 14:23

Have just had a couple of hours in bed after taking off TENS. Still crampy, tired and cold. DH has just instructed me to get dressed so we can go for a walk. Lets see what happens!

lulumama · 04/02/2007 14:58

take it easy !

SHHHH · 04/02/2007 15:45

ime the contractions would still continue even with a tens. With dd my waters broke at home and I was in hospital within 2 hours. Once in and my waters broke good and proper I then needed my tens. I found the pain continued and tbh within 3 hours of being taken to the del suite the ten was of no use..In fact I found it useless even in the wait to go to del. What I am trying to say if that ime the tens didn't mask or stop any contractions iykwim. It just took the edge off them iykwim.

BTW its not stopped me from hiring one for this birth lol..didn't want to risk not having the choice of using it again !!!!

Hope things move soon for you. x

was a false alarm this morning but sure it won't be long now. Thought the discharge I had before was a show - probably was a bit - but boy oh boy I know I have had a show now! sorry to be so graphic but I have two blood tinged masses (almost could be alien life form!). Probably combined they would be the diameter of a breastpad! Yuck - but at least I now know I am not imagining that labour is on it's way!

lulumama · 04/02/2007 21:30

yay! things are getting started...lots of good positive thoughts now , imagine the cervix dilating and thinning and opening...fingers crossed for you ! very exciting !!

SELMUM · 04/02/2007 21:34

lulumama · 04/02/2007 21:35

One question - is it normal for true contractions to be low down under the bump like really bad period cramps or should they be all over the bump?

lulumama · 05/02/2007 07:28

it is not so much where you feel the pain, but in true labour, they are always present, rarely exceed 60 seconds, recur with rhythmic regularity , are accompanied by abdominal tightening and often accompanied by backache.

when you are not in true labour , the pains aren;t always there, may last 3 - 4 minutes, are erratic, not always painful, no backache....

but each woman does labour differently , the way you experience the pain and where, can depend on the lie of the baby and other things

each niggle and pain you have is doing something, whether it is true labour or not....

hang on in there! you are doing really well xxx

I have had enough of this birthing experience now. Nothing much more happened on Sunday & I had some sleep sunday night. felt positive yesterday & well so did a bit of nesting! At 4.30 pm had pains again and then they started coming every 10 mins & intense pressure in pelvis - so much I couldn't really sit at all. Pains got closer every 6 mins. Spoke to MW at local hosp who congratulated me on coping with them whilst I heavy breathed down the phone at her! she told me to stay put until I was regularly getting 3 - 4 in 10 mins. This never quite happened. Felt shattered by 1 am so decided to lie down for a bit kept dosing off and pains slowed, picked up again and then by 8 am nothing! Being told I was never in labour by my community MW was soul destroying. 14 hours of pain & I will probably have to go through that all again.
I am now extremely worried that I won't cope with true labour pains as although I coped last night using TENS and breathing it was fairly hard. will true labour be even more painful?
Sorry this is so long!

lulumama · 06/02/2007 12:14

you will cope , you will...no doubt

when you are in labour, you get into the 'zone', you will close your eyes and work with it, the pain , yes it is painful, but the body will release endorphins which will carry you through it

the TENS is good, water is good, gas and air is good, massage too....and then you can have pethidine....!!

you will be amazed at what you can cope with it, and the pain has a purpose..you get a baby at the end of it

all the contractions you have had will have done something and played a part, so try not to be disheartened....

Thanks - I am already thinking about asking straight off for an epidural, despite always thinking I wouldn't want one!

lulumama · 06/02/2007 19:29

do you know what? you don;t need to decide anything until you get there!

if you do go for an epidural, wait until you are in established labour as having one before then can stall and even stop labour

it is really good if you can have a mobile epidural, so you are not confined to the bed

IMO, having laboured once with and once without, i would not have one if i have another baby...simply because, the urge to push was so strong, i was glad to feel it and know that the end was coming! and to be able to feel the sensations and work with them..rather than being told when to push

an epidural is an option, but i would not rule anything out yet

you will cope, honestly.....! you are strong and you are ready...try not to let fear and negativity take over...((hug))

just listen to your body, go with the flow and do what it is you need to do .

Well, it appears my false labour was actually labour. I got the pains checked out on Wednesday 7th Feb at hospital and discovered I was 5 cm dilated but not contracting. I had my waters broken just before lunchtime and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Louisa Christine May at 21.06. Louisa weighed in at 7 lb 13 ozs - a lot smaller than I was led to believe she would be! Third stage was not so good I had a retained placenta which meant I had to have the placenta removed in theatre under a spinal block - and I had delivered her using gas and air and pethidine - should have gone for the epidural!! I lost 3 pints of blood and had to have a transfusion.

However I must say it was all worth it - Louisa is absolutely beautiful and a dream baby - breastfeeding well and sleeping for up to 4 hours at a time - I couldn't have asked for more.
