Absolutely brilliant!

Had forceps with DD1, so not sure what to expect second time. In fact, I found it really, really easy. Think I was pushing for about 15 minutes or so (not sure, it was less than half an hour, because it was only 35 minutes from waters breaking to arrival).

After really intense, painful back contractions, I was in the water and it didn't really hurt. I don't remember needing to push, just realising I already was. No ring of fire. Uncomfortable for a few moments, but only in the same league as a very early contraction, and a totally different sensation. So positive and just totally amazing!

Only weird bit is I felt like DD2 rebounded into my ribs each time I stopped. I knew they slid back, but it felt like she was bungee jumping!

WIth both of mine I had involuntary pushing. I would describe the force as if I were about to vomit - there was no way I could not push in the same way there is no way I can stop myself vomiting. The sensationj was like needing to do a humoungous poo. The first time I had a midwife telling me when to push as well. The second time DH and I were on our own and I genuinely thought I was going to poo not that I would be giving birth within a couple of pushes!

I hardly felt anything at all (even thought I had no pain relief) I had one urge to push which was as my waters broke (which felt like I just needs a poo, which placed me convieniently on the toilet!), the rest of the birth seemed to just happen (the hard part getting from the toilet to my lounge), I was not deliberately pushing at all, baby was just born. I didnt feel any contractions or anything, weird, surreal, I must have been on another planet!

Kind of like doing a big poo! Your body knows what to do, and I found it just took over without me needing to think what to do. I did lots of preparation using self hypnosis (www.natalhypnotherapy.co.uk) and didn't experience the pushing as painful - more like a big pressure but totally OK with no pain relief. Would definitely recommend hypnosis. Made the recovery easy too!

I had no urge to push - maybe cos I had syntocinon and/or babe was back to back? No epidural or other pain relief so I should have been able to feel everything. Midwives kept saying push like doing a big poo & eventually I had to say, sorry that's not helping me as that is what I've been doing & it isn't getting anywhere. I just pushed somehow & tried to concentrate on feeling the "ring of fire" as I was pleased to not be having a CS cos that had been on the cards. Mainly the pain of contractions was too distracting.

I had no urge to push either, though not sure whether it was because DD had gone back to back (but had turned around by pushing stage?) or because the MW made me lie on my back. Took me 90 min with no pain relief (wasn't allowed G&A at that stage) and DD got stuck in the U-bend for bloody ages. I was also trying really hard not to poo, which may not have helped - in the end decided that would just have to give up on that and poo her out and um my bottom hasn't been quite the same since Blush Ended up pushing all the time, not just during contractions, because I was so bloody fed up and just wanted her out.

40+2 with DS today so interested to see whether I'll get the urge this time. Also absolutely determined that I will not lie on my back Angry

Involuntary pushing here too.

MW checked, I was 5cm dilated, I got into the pool, one MASSIVE contraction and I said 'the baby's coming'.

'You're joking?' said the midwife.

'I'm bloody not'.

'DON'T PUSH!'

'I'm not pushing, it's not me doing it....'

One more massive contraction, loads of panting by me, DDs head was born.

2nd stage recorded as 5 mins, including having to get out of the pool and be manoeuvred due to DD2's shoulder dystocia.

Ha ha, yes. Although in fairness it was bumped by someone who is now in the early stages of pregnancy. Presumably found through Google!

I had involuntary pushing twice, but yes, it did feel like doing a poo.... fortunately for me mine were both delivered quickly once pushing started.
