Caesarian or Natural after a caesarian birth?

I had an emergency c-section for my first baby. I was in labour for 22 hours, was continually monitored and unable to move around duing contractions. I am now quite scared to have a second baby due to my experience first time around. The hospital should have detected that your baby was breach from your scans and also if it was a large baby. What was the birth weight? I think sometimes we should stick with our own instincts and do what we feel is right for us. Obviously you should listen to your medical advice but if you are not happy, don't be afaid to ask for a 2nd opinion.

What seems to be common to all is that it is your choice and there is so much pressure put on women who have had a c section to have natural birth. Also, the amount of times people have said to me 'Oh, too posh to push???' Grrrrr!

I was really looking forward to a vaginal delivery with dd1 but she was breech and I was booked in for a C-section. Went into labour at 37 weeks and had my c-section early - the BEST experience. I cannot recommend it enough after hearing all the horror stories, Yes, you have a scar and it hurts and it can be difficult to move around but I was up and running really quickly, have no problems with weak perineal muscles and want to avoid a natural birth this time round (23 weeks at present). My midwife told me that she would prefer me to have a natural birth - bo@@o%%s to that! My consultant has already offered a CS and will see me at 34 weeks to decide. Can't help but hope that baby no.2 is breech also to take pressure off having to 'justify' my choice of labour. By the way, he won't induce me and he won't let me push for very long so why not just cut the crap and let me have my CSection!!

This is just my opinion so don't shout at me.
I have had 3 sections but i really wish i'd had a natural birth after my first section, as that would of meant i could of had more kids.

I was told that i could try for natural delivery but baby was in distress straight away so section it was. This then menat that any future births would be a section, which it was.
I would love a 4th but 3 sections is the advised limit.

What i'm trying to say is that if you have a section again, you will then always have to have a section and it limits the amount of kids you can have.

I'm not explaining this very well so i'll just shut up.

Nutcracker, have you seen Zipper's recent posts? She's just had her sixth (?) child = all sections. They can't stop you!

Nutcracker - SueW knows someone who had 3 sections and then a home birth!

Really enjoyed reading through this discussion. I had a ECS with my DD in Feb 2002 as she was breech. Despite my disappointment at the time of not going through natural childbirth the actual caesarean was a very positive experience. I had a great spinal block that was very effective, a lovely anesthetist who managed to distract me by making jokes and Beth was born to a pre-recorded tape of our favourite tunes.

I was so scared about the ECS I was shaking like a leaf which was made worse by the anasthetic and wasn't able to hold Beth after she was born because of the shaking. Was up the morning after the op and home 4 days later, desperate to go shopping but being told not to by my midwife. Have a small scar but do feel a little numb in the lower part of my abdomen.

Have been to the midwife this morning and found out my baby is currently breech again (only 27 weeks so time for it to change) and was really worried whether the recovery for a 2nd ECS would be prolonged and great to see the mostly positive experiences had by you all.

Would still like to work towards a VBAC but my ECS was a positive experience and I'm more than happy to go with this option if this is best for my baby.

Thanks

Lisa

I too had 3rd degree tear with DS1 and now have to decide whether to opt for elective caesarian or vaginal birth with early (large) episiotomy in the hope of avoiding a repeat. Have you had your baby yet, if so do you think caesarian was the right option?
