In the end ghostspirit no theres nothing you can do about it unless you have an enema

I think the only thing you can do is really make sure you have a high fibre diet and try and get into a routine of going say every morning or something. Then at least if you do poo it will be all at once!

And yeah, definitely don't have a curry!

Midwives love seeing poo, means baby is coming very soon Xmas Grin

I would hate to see it floating around in water tbh, I'm glad I gave birth in bed for this reason as midwife just wiped it away discreetly

Ah jeez sounds horrible Grin sorry to laugh. Maybe buy some suppositories beforehand and get it all out ?

When I went for a tour of the birthing center, the midwife who was showing us round described your bowels as being like a tube of toothpaste, the baby's head is like a rolling pin being run over them and squeezing everything out, such is the inevitability of pooing.

Having said that, I didn't poo when I had DD. Only because I'd vomited so much in early labour there was nothing left in my digestive system. So you could try puking your guts up beforehand OP....

This really scares me, I have ibs and rarely do solid poos so the discreet wiping away wouldn't be possible! I always think I will take imodium when I go into labour!

I pooed when the mw was out of the room. DH had to wipe my arse Blush. He has promised never to mention it again and I have promised never to mention him lying on the floor in the bathroom of a travelodge with explosions happening at both ends! We have a very equal marriage. Grin

100% of vb involve poo.

It happens to everyone, if you think you didnt poo then your MW did a good job of being discreet and not letting you know.

God, if men gave birth they wouldn't give a shit about shitting in front of anyone

Ilovetorrentialrain · 15/12/2015 17:30

OverScented are you a MW? I didn't know that! Thought I'd got away with this not happening to me!

Why did they stop doing enemas? I was quite shocked to hear they don't do them as a matter of course. Does it mean you see a lot of poo on those baby being born programmes? Thank god I don't watch them. My baby is now 40 ( child bride) so didn't realise it'd changed!

100% VB involve poo

Really?? Confused I 100% didn't poo during either of my DCs births. Had a poo at home in early stages before heading to hospital. And that was that. But then I gave birth very quickly and easily with no pushing. Just lucky I guess! Grin

It's normal don't worry. I pooed. I told them I needed the toilet they wouldn't let me go, their own faults!

I gave birth on Saturday morning.

Had about 5 poos the day before and one on the toilet during labour - I still pooed loads while pushing!!

I laboured in the water with my first baby and pooed in there as well! Yes they have a little fishing net thing to collect it all!

OP I was so worried about this too but then I thought, you know what? Given all the horror stories about what can go wrong in childbirth - tears, forceps, episiotomies etc - if pooing is the worst thing that happens, then I've got off lightly!

And in the end it was worrying over nothing as I didn't poo. I had a water birth and the sieve stayed unused!

Embarrassed I just used boots own off the shelf glycerin suppositories - it seems quite mild - I've had an enema before a surgery previously and it was not forceful like that so I'm not worried about using it in labour now.

Had my baby on the 6th. Failed forceps. How the hell can I push when I can't feel my legs? Except push I must have as I managed to do a runny shit on the table which went all up the doctors apron. I just smelt this awful smell all of a sudden and dh confirmed my fears later. My bowels are the only thing that work regularly

Ilovetorrentialrain I've watched my dd give birth three times (and was at the business end) and she never pooed once. OUt of four, I only pooed once.

That said, it really is normal and there's sod all to be be embarrassed about.

Ah misty poo coloured memories......

I only knew cos I saw the mw discretely pull the inko sheet from under me and into the bin.

She was so quick I don't think I'd have realised if I weren't a nurse myself. I was more embarrassed cos of the host of students in the room. It was witnessed by about 5 of them. Blush

I wouldn't mind but I wasn't even constipated!
